(NBA) Rajon Rondo hopes to return before All-Star break

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Rajon Rondo says he hopes to make his season debut before the All-Star break. Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens says he has never spoken to Rondo or anybody in the organization about a specific return date.

This much is clear: Rondo's return is inching closer.

Rondo, who has been out since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last January, told reporters at the team's morning shootaround Friday in San Francisco that he hopes to make his season debut before the break but declined to give a specific date. Boston's last game before the break is Feb. 12.

(UFC-MMA) One More Time: Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira Scheduled for UFC 172 in Baltimore

Let’s try this one more time.

After several false starts announcing the event and date for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to defend his belt against Glover Teixeira, UFC officials hope to have finally struck gold.

The UFC on Friday announced that it had finally settled on April 26 at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore for UFC 172: Jones vs. Teixeira.

(ONE FC-MMA) Shinya Aoki Plans to Defend ONE FC Lightweight Title and Challenge for Featherweight Belt in 2014

Weight issues are on a lot of people’s minds in January as they look to live up to their New Year’s resolutions or lose some of the pounds they piled on at Christmas, but few people can be paying more precise attention to the issue at present than Shinya Aoki.

The Japanese submission specialist won a unanimous decision over Cody Stevens in his featherweight debut at ONE FC: Total Domination in October and then scored a quickfire submission victory over Toshikatsu Harada in a lightweight match under the IGF banner on New Year’s Eve.

Moving up and down in weight is something Aoki is going to have to get used to because in 2014 he wants to defend his ONE FC lightweight title at least once as well as winning the 145-pound belt.

(Tennis) Below-par Djokovic, Williams dodge heat, shocks

Melbourne (AFP) - Novak Djokovic's Boris Becker era got underway in low-key fashion as a clinical Serena Williams and Li Na showed their intent on an eventful first day at the Australian Open Monday.

As temperatures soared and big names fell by the wayside, Djokovic and Williams dodged the day-time heat to open their campaigns with wins on a balmy evening at Rod Laver Arena.

Williams put Australian teenager Ashleigh Barty to the sword but Djokovic, playing his first competitive match under new coach Becker, was surprisingly sloppy as he took nearly two hours to subdue Slovakia's Lukas Lacko.

(UFC-MMA) Georges St-Pierre Doesn't Regret Vacating UFC Championship, Unsure If He Will Ever Return

Longtime champion Georges St-Pierre recently vacated the UFC welterweight championship, citing a need to get back to a normal life.

“I’ve been fighting for a very long time, at a very high level,” said St-Pierre. “It’s a lot of pressure. I know that UFC is a business. They have to keep things rolling, so I vacate my title.

“I need to have a normal life for a little bit,” he continued. “If I come back some day, I will be even better.”

That was nearly a month ago. St-Pierre has since posted a few times on social media, but has made few public comments about his last fight, his hiatus, or his thoughts of a possible return.

(NBA) Obama honors Miami Heat for 2nd straight NBA title

WASHINGTON (AP) -- For President Barack Obama, seeing the Miami Heat at the White House on Tuesday was like deja vu.

A year after congratulating LeBron James and company on winning their second league title, Obama was doing it again. And so soon.

James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, their teammates and coaches, earned another White House visit by following that championship win with another last year. They topped the San Antonio Spurs in series that went the full seven games. A big basketball fan and recreational player, Obama described in detail how the Heat rallied from behind with less than a minute on the clock to win Game 6 before clinching in the seventh.
