(NFL) Tolbert conversion gives Rice 22-21 Pro Bowl win

HONOLULU (AP) -- Jerry Rice has fresh bragging rights on Deion Sanders nearly a decade after both players retired from the NFL.

Dallas running back DeMarco Murray caught a 20-yard touchdown pass with 41 seconds left and Carolina running back Mike Tolbert plunged into the end zone for a 2-point conversion to give Rice a 22-21 win over Sanders in the first schoolyard-style Pro Bowl on Sunday.

(NBA) OKC's Brooks to coach Western Conference All-Stars

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oklahoma City's Scott Brooks has earned his second All-Star coaching assignment.

Brooks clinched the Western Conference spot Wednesday night when Portland lost to Memphis, guaranteeing the Thunder (36-10) will have a better winning percentage than the Trail Blazers through Sunday.

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich is ineligible because he coached the West last year.

Brooks, the 2010 Coach of the Year, led the West to a 152-149 victory over the East in 2012, when the Thunder eventually reached the NBA Finals before losing to Miami.

Indiana's Frank Vogel will coach the East in the Feb. 16 game in New Orleans.

(NBA) Pacers sign free-agent center Andrew Bynum

The Indiana Pacers signed free-agent center Andrew Bynum on Saturday, the team announced.

The acquisition of Bynum could deliver the Pacers a formidable bench presence as they try to get past the Miami Heat and reach the NBA Finals.

After a failed partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bynum was suspended and ultimately traded to the Chicago Bulls, who released the former All-Star center on Jan. 7.

(NBA) Silver replaces Stern as NBA commissioner

NEW YORK (AP) -- Adam Silver has become the NBA's fifth commissioner.

The NBA posted a picture on its Twitter account Saturday of Silver holding a basketball and shaking hands with outgoing commissioner David Stern.

''It's official: Adam Silver succeeds David Stern as NBA Commissioner'' the caption read.

Stern retired after exactly 30 years in charge, making him the NBA's longest-serving and most successful commissioner.

Silver joined the NBA as his assistant in 1992 and has been the deputy commissioner since 2006.

(NBA) Spurs sign Shannon Brown to 10-day contract

The Spurs have signed Shannon Brown to a 10-day contract, a move announced on Saturday via official release. The team also released Othyus Jeffers, whom they had previously called up from the D-League on a 10-day contract following the injury to Kawhi Leonard.

Brown played well for the Phoenix Suns over the last two seasons, and averaged 10.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per contest. He clashed with interim head coach Lindsey Hunter near the end of last year over a lack of playing time, but mostly over a lack of communication regarding his status.

(NFL) San Diego's Rivers wins AP Comeback Player

NEW YORK (AP) -- Philip Rivers' turnaround season has earned him The Associated Press NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.

Rivers led the San Diego Chargers to a wild-card playoff spot with four straight victories to close out the schedule, giving them a 9-7 record. He led the league with a 69.5 completion percentage and threw for 32 TDs against 11 interceptions.

He received 13 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league. The balloting announced Saturday night was so widespread that 12 players got votes.

Finishing behind Rivers were Denver running back Knowshon Moreno and Philadelphia left tackle Jason Peters with eight selections apiece. Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis got six votes.

Rivers is the second Chargers quarterback to win the award; the man he replaced, Drew Brees, won in 2004.
