(Tennis) Federer downs Murray to reach semi with Nadal

MELBOURNE, Australia - Record Grand Slam champion Roger Federer set up an Australian Open semi-final with Rafael Nadal after beating Andy Murray in the last eight on Wednesday.

The Swiss sixth seed downed the Wimbledon champion 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (6/8), 6-3 in three hours 20 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

(Boxing) Pacquiao-Bradley II set for April 12

MANILA, Philippines - Will it be revenge or repeat?

Manny Pacquiao will reportedly face WBO welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in a rematch of their controversial 2012 bout which Bradley won by split decision.

The Manila Bulletin reports that the fight will be announced at a press conference in Los Angeles on February 5, with a press stop in New York scheduled for the following day.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- The usually diplomatic Roger Federer didn't bother concealing his preference for semifinal winners at the Australian Open.

He wanted an all-Swiss final, the first ever in a Grand Slam. Eighth-ranked Stanislas Wawrinka held up his end of the bargain with a 6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) win over Tomas Berdych to reach his first major final.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- This will be Li Na's third time in the Australian Open final and her goal, she half-jokes, is to not fall down. For Dominika Cibulkova, the game plan is to enjoy the moment that she describes as a beautiful dream coming true.

The No. 4-seeded Li is the favorite to win Saturday's final, based on her ranking, her experience and the fact that she already has won a major - the 2011 French Open. But the past two weeks have proven that there is nothing predictable about this year's Australian Open.

(NBA) 4 first-timers voted to start NBA All-Star game

NEW YORK (AP) -- Kobe Bryant called for younger players in the All-Star game, and the fans listened.

They still want Bryant, too.

Stephen Curry, Kevin Love, Paul George and Kyrie Irving were voted NBA All-Stars Thursday, putting four first-time starters in the Feb. 16 game in New Orleans.

(NBA) LeBron leads USA Basketball team roster; no Kobe

With LeBron James sticking around and some of the NBA's best players joining him, the U.S. basketball team could be better than ever.

''The roster itself is the strongest roster we've ever had,'' USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said.

Even without Kobe Bryant, who had said the 2012 London Olympics was his last international competition, it's a formidable group. James and 10 others from the 2012 U.S. Olympic team are remaining in the national team pool, joined by a group of newcomers hoping for their first chance at gold.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Rafael Nadal continued his dominant streak over Roger Federer to reach the Australian Open final for the third time, beating the 17-time major winner 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-3 Friday night to set up a championship decider against No. 8-seeded Stan Wawrinka.

With his 23rd win in 33 matches against Federer, the 27-year-old Spaniard set up an ideal chance to win a 14th Grand Slam title and to become the first man to win all four majors at least twice in the Open era.

(Tennis) Li Na wins Australian Open in 3rd trip to final

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Li Na made it third time lucky in the Australian Open final, beating Dominika Cibulkova 7-6 (3), 6-0 on Saturday to become the oldest woman to clinch the title here in the Open era.

Li, who turns 32 next month, lost Australian Open finals to Kim Clijsters in 2011 and to Victoria Azarenka last year. In between, she won the 2011 French Open to become the first Chinese woman to win a major.

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (AP) -- Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is disappointed he's not teammates with Robert Mathis during the Pro Bowl.

But the Colts linebacker says if he gets a shot at Luck during Sunday's game, he'll take it.

''I'm going to bust him,'' Mathis said Thursday after practicing for Team Rice, drawing laughs from a crowd of fans while signing autographs.

Luck versus Mathis is just one of several head-to-head matchups made possible by a new Pro Bowl format modeled after fantasy sports and schoolyard pickup games. The teams were drafted by Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders.

(Tennis) Sampras tips Nadal to surpass Federer's grand slam record

(Reuters) - Pete Sampras has tipped Rafa Nadal to beat Roger Federer's 17 grand slam titles, saying he has never seen anything like the powerhouse Spaniard.

American Sampras saw Federer go past his own 14 grand slams, and Nadal will draw level if he beats Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in Sunday's Australian Open final.

(UFC-MMA) Benson Henderson gets controversial nod over Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 10

Benson Henderson won a decision over Josh Thomson in the main event of UFC on Fox 10 Saturday night in Chicago but the judges immediately sparked controversy. The fight was competitive and closely fought but Thomson appeared to be on his way to a decision win on the strength of grappling superiority in at least three of the fight's five rounds.

In the end, however, two judges saw it for Henderson, giving him the split decision win. Two different judges scored the fight 29-28, one for Henderson and one for Thomson.

(Tennis) Wawrinka wins Aussie Open final vs injured Nadal

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Stan Wawrinka added a win over Rafael Nadal to his list of firsts in a stunning run to his maiden Grand Slam title, extending his rival's injury-cursed run at the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 upset in Sunday's final.

The 28-year-old Wawrinka had never taken a set off Nadal in 12 previous meetings, but attacked from the start against the 13-time major winner and regained his nerve after dropping the third set against the injured Spaniard.
