Pelicans get 1st win, beat Bobcats 105-84
AP - Sports

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Anthony Davis had 25 points, eight rebounds, a career-high six blocks and five assists to lead New Orleans to a 105-84 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night, its first win changing its nickname to Pelicans.

Tyreke Evans added 15 points, Jrue Holiday had 14 and Brian Roberts 13 for New Orleans (1-2), which made the name change from Hornets in the offseason.

Ramon Sessions had 22 points and Kemba Walker added 14 for Charlotte (1-2).

The Pelicans set a franchise record with 18 blocked shots. Jason Smith tied a career high with five.

Davis also set a career high with five steals.

New Orleans led 56-41 at halftime and with a frontcourt led by Davis effectively closing off the middle to the Bobcats was never seriously threatened. The Bobcats trailed 77-62 at the end of three quarters but could come no closer than 14 points in the fourth.

Warriors beat Kings 98-87
AP - Sports

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Klay Thompson scored 27 points, Stephen Curry had five 3-pointers among his 22 points, and the Golden State Warriors limited Sacramento to 34.5 percent shooting from the field Saturday night in a 98-87 victory over the Kings.

After combining for 46 points on 17-of-26 shooting from the field through three quarters, Golden State's backcourt duo mostly watched from the bench in the final period while Warriors reserves finished off the lopsided victory.

David Lee had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors, who shot 51.3 percent from the field. Curry added a game-high 12 assists.

Rookie Ben McLemore led the Kings with a career-high 19 points, while Travis Outlaw had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Jason Thompson had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Blazers beat Spurs 115-105
AP - Sports

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Nicolas Batum hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in the Portland Trail Blazers' 115-105 home-opening victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

Damian Lillard had 25 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, and LaMarcus Aldridge added 24 points for the Blazers, who led by as many as 13 points.

Duncan sat out the Spurs' 91-85 win Friday night against the Lakers after bruising his chest in Wednesday's season-opening victory over Memphis. He had 24 points in the first loss this season for the Western Conference champions.

Portland has won five straight home openers.

Parsons, Harden lead Rockets over Jazz, 104-93
AP - Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Chandler Parsons scored 24 points and James Harden had 23 to help Houston rally from a 19-point deficit for a 104-93 victory over Utah on Saturday night that kept the Jazz winless and the Rockets undefeated.

Jeremy Lin added 20 points as the Rockets (3-0) outscored the Jazz 64-37 in the second half.

After John Lucas made a jumper to beat the shot clock and pull the Jazz within 95-90 with 3:27 left, the Rockets allowed just one field goal the rest of the way.

Enes Kanter made an inside jumper to give Utah its final lead, 85-83 with 7:11 remaining. Harden drove for a layup, Lin hit a 3-pointer and Parsons followed with another basket to start the game-ending run.

Richard Jefferson led Utah (0-3) with 18 and Kanter added 16 for the Jazz.

Clippers lead all the way to beat Rockets 137-118
AP - Sports

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- J.J. Redick scored 19 of his 26 points in the first half to lead seven players in double figures, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat Houston 137-118 Monday night, handing the Rockets their first loss of the season in Dwight Howard's return to Staples Center.

Chris Paul added 23 points and 17 assists, Jamal Crawford had 21 points, and Blake Griffin scored 18 for the Clippers, who led the entire game and tied a franchise record with 78 points in the first half.

Howard finished with 13 points and nine rebounds after getting roundly booed in his first game in Los Angeles since leaving the Lakers and signing with Houston in the NBA's biggest free agent move last summer.

Jared Dudley added 15 points and DeAndre Jordan had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, who have won five in a row against Houston at home and three straight overall.

Coming off a sprained left ankle, Omri Casspi led seven Houston players in double figures with 19 points off the bench. James Harden added 15 points, and Chandler Parsons had 14, along with Jeremy Lin and Francisco Garcia. The Rockets fell to 3-1.

The Clippers turned the final seven minutes into Lob City, with Paul orchestrating back-to-back, alley-oop passes to Jordan and Griffin that ended in dunks. They were part of a 15-5 run that stretched the Clippers' lead to 129-108.

The Rockets controlled the start of the fourth, but got no closer than nine points. That was as close as they got four times in the third.

The Clippers led 78-66 at halftime. They shot 59 percent from the floor and made 19 of 22 free throws. Redick shot 6 of 9 and made all six of his free throws in the half.

Notes: The Clippers' 78 points in the first half tied the franchise record set on March 13, 1998, against Toronto. ... Howard will face the Lakers for the first time on Thursday in Houston.

Bayless leads Grizzlies past winless Celtics 95-88
AP - Sports

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Jerryd Bayless finally found his range, Memphis clamped down on defense and the Grizzlies used the combination for a victory.

Bayless keyed a fourth-quarter rally, scoring all of his 15 points in the period, to lead Memphis to a 95-88 victory over the Boston Celtics on Monday night.

Bayless was 6 of 7 in the quarter as Memphis erased a six-point Boston lead with just under 9 minutes to play.

''That's what Jerryd does. He's a volume scorer,'' said Memphis guard Tony Allen, who had four steals. ''He can fill it up. . That was big for us.''

Zach Randolph and Mike Conley also had 15 for Memphis, Conley handing out eight assists. Marc Gasol finished with 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Jeff Green led the Celtics with 22 points, while Jared Sullinger scored 16, going 2 of 3 from outside the arc. Avery Bradley scored 14, and Jordan Crawford finished with 12.

The Celtics fell to 0-4 under rookie coach Brad Stevens, the first time Boston has lost its first four games since the 1969-70 season.

''I think you just understand where we are and where we have to go,'' Stevens said. ''You do your best to focus on what's next and not pay too much attention to anything else.''

The Celtics, who are the worst team in the league at committing turnovers, matched their average with 21, while Memphis wasn't much better with 19.

''I kept looking at my staff saying: 'When should I put Mike Conley in,''' Memphis coach Dave Joerger said. ''And then Jerryd Bayless kept making buckets, and I would be silly if I took Jerryd Bayless out of the game.''

Stevens seemed to have a chance at his first NBA victory until Bayless got untracked in the fourth quarter, mostly from around the top of the key.

NOTES: The best Grizzlies scoring performance against the Celtics is 41 by Bryant Reeves in 1998. .The game featured two of the youngest coaches in the league. Boston's Stevens is youngest at 37; Memphis' Dave Joerger is third-youngest at 39. Jacque Vaughn of Orlando at 38 is between them.

oo nga grabe 78 points sa 1st half ang clippers parang score na yung sa isang low scoring game, if the clippers want to go deep into the playoffs they should play more defense. pero good news para sa mga fantasy owners makakapagbigay sila ng better stats lol

James scores double figures in 500th straight game
AP - Sports

TORONTO (AP) -- LeBron James reached another milestone Tuesday, becoming the fifth player in NBA history to score 10 points or more in 500 consecutive games.

James reached the milestone with a putback dunk on Norris Cole's missed shot at 2:31 of the first quarter against the Raptors.

A four-time MVP, James joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (with streaks of 787 and 508 games), Michael Jordan (866), Karl Malone (575) and Moses Malone (526) as the only players to accomplish the feat.

James has reached double figures in every game since scoring eight points at Milwaukee on Jan. 5, 2007. He scored 19 at New Jersey the following night.

James has more regular-season games of scoring at least 50 points (nine) than nights where he's scored less than 10 (eight). Factor playoff games into the mix, and he's reached double-figures 898 times in 907 career games.

Cavs' Bennett still looking for 1st field goal
AP - Sports

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) -- The No. 1 overall pick is still looking for basket No. 1.

Anthony Bennett, the first player taken in this year's NBA draft, hasn't scored a field goal for the Cavaliers.

Through four games, Cleveland's burly forward has missed each of his 15 shots from the field, including eight 3-pointers. He appears lost with the ball in his hands, causing some to wonder if the Cavs made a mistake with their choice.

He's O-for-the-season so far.

According to STATS, Bennett is just the fifth rookie - playing a minimum of five minutes - to begin his career without making a field goal in the first four games. None of the other four, though, was selected ahead of every player in the draft.

Cavs coach Mike Brown said there are several reasons for Bennett's drought.

''He's probably pressing to a certain degree,'' Brown said after practice Tuesday. ''So it's probably a little of that and a little bit of being on a big stage now in the regular season with it counting. There's probably some of where his opponents are looking at him and saying that they're going to come at him. They may not care that he's the No. 1 pick.''

For comparison's sake, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Michael Carter-Williams has 26 field goals already, and eight other rookies who have attempted at least 15 shots have put one shot through the rim.

Bennett's alarming field-goal deficiency extended to four games Monday night when he went 0 for 3 in 10 minutes during a 93-92 win over Minnesota.

First, though, Bennett needs to make a shot.

TS (toni storks) view:
alarming nga ito, overall number 1 pick ka, tapos 0-out of-15 FG ka after 4 games. . .tsk tsk.

Di kaya nasayang ang #1 pick ng Cavs sa kanya? another Michael Olowokandi or Greg Oden in the making?

Ex Bucks star Redd to retire in Milwaukee
AP - Sports

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Michael Redd, a former All-Star guard who became the fourth-leading scorer in Bucks history in a career hampered by injuries, will retire in Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The team announced Redd's decision Tuesday and said he will make a formal announcement when Milwaukee hosts Cleveland.

Redd was a second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2000, 43rd overall, and he played 11 of his 12 seasons in Milwaukee. Two separate injuries to his left knee cost him large chunks of three straight seasons with the Bucks and he last played for Phoenix in 2011-12.

He finishes his NBA career with 11,972 points (11,554 of them with Milwaukee) and a .447 percent shooter, .380 from 3-point range. For Milwaukee, he averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Redd, a reserve on the 2003 All-Star team, reached the playoffs three times with the Bucks. He was also on the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Redd tore ligaments in his left knee in January 2009, then did it again in January 2010.

On Nov. 11, 2006, Redd set the franchise's individual game scoring record with 57 against Utah, breaking the mark set in 1971 by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (55 points). Redd also holds the NBA record for 3-pointers made in one quarter (eight in the fourth quarter vs. Houston on Feb. 20, 2002).

source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/former-bucks-star-redd-retire-185657981

TS (toni storks) view:
He's one of the reason why Milwaukee Bucks traded their all-star Ray Allen to Seattle Supersonics midway through the 2002-03 NBA season as he emerged as a capable scorer at the shooting guard position.

His career-high in points scored in a regular NBA game is 57 (scored against Utah Jazz in Nov. 11, 2006) and in NBA playoff, his career-high is 40 (scored against the Detroit Pistons in Apr. 29, 2006).

James scores 35 as Heat beat Raptors 104-95
AP - Sports

TORONTO (AP) -- LeBron James scored a season-high 35 points, Dwyane Wade had 20 and the Miami Heat beat the Toronto Raptors 104-95 on Tuesday for their first road victory in three tries this season.

Ray Allen scored 14 points for Miami, which lost at Philadelphia on Oct. 30 and was beaten 101-100 at Brooklyn on Nov. 1.

James also had a season-high eight rebounds and eight assists as Miami topped 100 points for the fifth straight game, extending their team-record run to begin the season.

With a putback dunk at 2:31 of the first quarter, James became the fifth player in NBA history to score 10 points or more in 500 consecutive games.

A four-time MVP, James joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (with streaks of 787 and 508 games), Michael Jordan (866), Karl Malone (575) and Moses Malone (526) as the only players to accomplish the feat.

The Heat have won 12 straight against the Raptors since a 111-103 road loss on Jan. 27, 2010, when Miami forward Chris Bosh played for Toronto.

DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors with 21 points while Jonas Valanciunas had 18. Rudy Gay had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double.

source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/james-scores-35-heat-beat-024441939

TS (toni storks) view:
For Toronto: Dapat binibigyan ng extended playing time si Valanciunas, remember he is a monster during the pre-season. Paano magiging consistent 20-10 guy ito pag minsan maglalaro ng 15 minutes, minsan 25 minutes. He should be given about 30 mins. playing time a ballgame. Also, Hansbrough should start  at 4 instead of Amir Johnson, he is better offensive player and can bang bodies with anybody and his energy is unquestionable. Dwayne Casey's job is on the line if this Raptors team keeps on losing.
