Enginebrake in gear

Pros:
less wear on brakes
consumes less gas - EFI only (pag naka gear and coasting hindi nagiinject ng gas)
Less chance magoverheat brakes. Pero kung track overheat parin unless bbk.

Cons:
More wear on engine support

Engine brake is there for a reason.

The reasons for using hand brake stated by co-PT Tambayers are all true and valid.

When you're in Baguio or Tagaytay or let us say basement parking lang going up and stuck in traffic, I can't imagine using only the brake pedal and neutral lang. Tiyak, aatras ka pag nag go na (unless matic car mo).

Pagdating sa mga matatarik na parking like sa Megamall, I use handbrake whenever na pila pataas ang mga sasakyan. delikado sa manual yan kasi aatras talaga. yung ginagawa ko naman pagtakbo, if ever tumaas ako sa 4th gear, I put the gear to neutral after, so tumatakbo pa rin ang car pero yung rpm bababa rin definitely. if nasa 40 na ang speedometer, I will then shift to 3rd gear para walang bitin. ang nakikita ko lang na pro nito is yung gas natitipid kahit paano. kawawa nga lang yung brake.

Sa Manual Transmission walang problema to.

But if you're using Automatic Transmission, never pull the transmission to 2 unless driving in speeds under 40kph and to 1/L unless driving un speeds under 20kph.

Otherwise, magsisira ka na ng transmission mo.

wala kang magiging problema kung engine brake lang ang gusto mo pero pwede ka magbigay nang problema sa auto mo

ex. running to 100km/h on gear 4 lets say 3500 - 3700 rpm

down shifting from 4rth gear to 2nd gear or first gear will make your engine gears failed .. just remember 1 gear per downshift wag 2 gears ang lalaktawan

Naku no-no talaga ang mag-neutral tapos brake lang asahan mo. Kawawa naman ang brake mo.  Lalo na wag mo gagawin pag pababa.  Malaki naitutulong ng engine brake sa
preno.

naku yan pa naman ginagawa ko sir. pag pababa ng flyover i put the gear to neutral, pero im making sure na clear yung way ko kasi mahirap magbrake kapag palusong e. i have this experience na biglang nagfull stop yung nasa harap ko but im thankful kasi natimingan ko ang preno. katakot din pag may nakabuntot sa likod ko at ako ang pwedeng madale dito.

Haven't been to Baguio sir, but soon I hope to take a vacation there. Marami nga nagsasabi sa kin malaki ang tulong ng engine brake sa pagbaba ng Baguio. Mahirap daw kasi ang daan dun.

on long downhill drives, shifting to neutral and relying on your brakes alone is VERY dangerous especially with newer vehicles that are electronically controlled.  Why? Kasi if mag stall makina mo at anytime, mawala ang brakes mo totally.  Try nyo yung bagong Innova, turn it the engine off to simulate a stalled engine and then try nyo mag brake.  Of course, find a safe road and a very slow speed when doing this experiment.  It happened to me last year.  My Innova stalled for no reason and I immediately lost my brakes.  Buti na lang at hindi ako nag panic at mabagal lang speed ko.
