Huhu Grubs

These Kiwi critters didn’t taste like chicken… more like burnt peanut butter.

Casu Marzu

Italian cuisine is not all about pizzas, pastas and gelatos. Casu Marzu is a rather unappetizing dish. It is a type of sheep milk cheese which contains live insect larvae. Now, all cheeses have to go through the process of fermentation and we know about the presence of bacteria in that process. But the process that goes in the making of Casu Marzu is less fermentation and more decomposition. The live larvae are said to give the cheese a unique taste and soft, gooey texture. No matter how tasty this is, getting someone to eat a dish when you can clearly see worms wriggle in it is definitely a task that the Italians mastered.

Spiders!

Creepy crawly spiders, mainly the Tarantula, are eaten in certain places the same way we eat fried chicken or a pizza on a Sunday afternoon. Hunted in the wilderness and pulled right out of there spider holes / burrows in the ground.

This is the same Tarantula which have killed people with one bite inserting enough of the toxic poison in its body to paralyze a human and shut down the entire body.

A bit of garlic, some sugar, and oil then roasted over fire till crispy and tender, the locals in Cambodia love them. Crispy, gooey and crunchy, with a texture somewhere in between chicken and snapper meat.

Sautéed scorpions, served on endive and known for their crunchy and herbal flavors, are the most sought after item on the menu. They are raised organically for human consumption.

A medley of scorpions and North American crickets are roasted and nestled in pepper jelly and cream cheese in pastry cups. Rurka strives to stir salvatory glands by striking a balance between making the foods look familiar and yet thrillingly unusual.

Crunchy roasted jumbo ants, served atop a cream cheese phyllo cup, are often compared to unsalted, roasted soy nuts. Working with such non-traditional food items allows chefs to stretch the limits of their creativity

Super mahal ang ostrich meat dito sa pinas. . malamang pag madami na nag-aalaga nito na mga farm, dadami supply at bababa price.
