Jessy Mendiola speaks up on “Darna” rumors

MANILA, Philippines – Jessy Mendiola said she is flattered to be considered by some as a good replacement for Angel Locsin to play “Darna” in the planned movie adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s Filipino comics heroine.


 
According to an article written by James Patrick Anarcon for Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), the 22-year-old actress said: “I really get flattered and I don’t know, kinikilig ako when they put a comment about that.”

She will be very honored if she will be chosen to be the new “Darna”, but she clarified nothing is sure yet and it all depends on the management if the role will be offered to her or not.

She also emphasized there’s no hidden meaning behind the photo she shared on Instagram, which was taken at a beach resort in Anilao, Batangas, wherein she was seen wearing a red two-piece swimwear, pretty close to the red costume of the iconic Pinay superheroine.


 
She said: “No, wala siyang meaning, walang hint, walang paramdam. Alangan mag-pose ako nang naka-turtle neck sa beach?” (No, there’s no meaning, or anything behind it at all. Should I pose wearing turtle neck while at a beach resort?”)

When asked what trait she thinks the chosen “Darna” should have, Mendiola replied: “I think you should undergo proper training, prove to them bakit ka pinili and that’s because you can be your own Darna, not to imitate kung anong ginawa niya.”

Angel Locsin dropped from the movie because of health reasons.

An article by Philippine Daily Inquirer disclosed that when Locsin was interviewed by veteran TV host Boy Abunda in the October 26 episode of “Tonight with Boy Abunda,” she said it is hard for her that she would no longer be doing the movie, but she must because her own health is already at risk.

She shared that the pain she feels because of the injury to her intervertebral disc is unbearable and there are days when she can’t even walk.

At present, Locsin is undergoing therapy and also considering having a medical operation abroad.

Jessy Mendiola confirms breakup with JM de Guzman

MANILA, Philippines - Jessy Mendiola confirms that she and JM de Guzman have called it quits.

Despite this, the ABS-CBN actress said they remain "friends" and are "still communicating."

"I think it's better if we focus on our respective priorities," she replied when asked what caused their breakup in an interview on Thursday. "I just want to focus on myself and that's the same with him."

This is the second time Jessy and JM have broken up. The two previously had a two-year relationship that ended in 2013.

They got back together early this year after JM made a showbiz comeback in 2014.

On the possibility of being back together again for the third time Jessy said, "I don't want to answer na parang alam ko lahat."

They may have broken up, but the Kapamilya actress said she still sees JM as "an amazing person. He's very talented, he's very loving."

"I think that's why I fell in love with him," Jessy added.

Pinoy group 4th Impact survives another week of 'X Factor UK'

MANILA, Philippines — All-Filipina girl group 4th Impact made it through another round of "X Factor UK."

The group is part of the top nine of the British reality talent search after they were saved from elimination during the show's second results show on Sunday night (Monday morning, Philippine time).

In another double elimination, Seann Miley Moore from the Boys category and Keira Weathers from the Girls category were cut from the competition.

This leaves the 12th series of "X Factor UK" with only nine finalists remaining.

MANILA, Philippines — Maine Mendoza achieved another career milestone, and she's not ashamed to gush over it.

On Sunday, the 20-year-old "Eat Bulaga" mainstay turned sentimental on Instagram as she shared that she has fulfilled one of her childhood fantasies: having a billboard on EDSA.

The post comes with a photo of a billboard of her and "kalye serye" love team Alden Richards for one of the brands they are endorsing.

Maine admits asking her driver to stop along EDSA in front of her billboard so she could take a photo of it.

"I still remember saying 'Sana talaga magkaron din ako ng billboard ko someday!' as a kid. Passing by tons of billboards along the expressway, I used to rest my head on the car window while gaping at those gracefully photographed celebrities/models," she said.

Maine added: "I was dreaming to see myself on one of those advertisements one day; but back then, I knew that it will NEVER EVER come to reality. (Papa'no naman kasi 'di ba?) Until all of these happened..n nobody knew that my 'fantasies' would come true. Nobody thought it was possible."

The EDSA billboard is just one of the recent showbiz milestones of Maine, who shot to fame thanks to "Eat Bulaga's" segment and her onscreen partnership with Alden. Apart from her numerous endorsements, she is set to appear in "My Bebe Love," an entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

Maine recently opened up about having self-esteem issues prior to entering showbiz.

"I used to be a girl with a poor self esteem—I actually think I still am. I never believed in my capability of doing things; it could be just me being a pessimist about almost everything but the thing is, I never really believed in myself," she said in an earlier Instagram post.

'Spectre' awarded Guiness World Record for largest film stunt explosion

"Spectre's" producer Barbara Broccoli and the film stars Daniel Craig and Léa Seydoux received the Guiness World Record award on behalf of the film's Special Effects and Miniature Effects Supervisor Chris Corbould.

MANILA, Philippines – In addition to breaking box office records across the globe, the 24th James Bond adventure "Spectre," has been awarded a Guinness World Records™ title for the Largest Film Stunt Explosion.

Producer Barbara Broccoli and stars Daniel Craig and Léa Seydoux – who appear in the scene – accepted the record certificate on behalf of the official title holder, Academy Award winner Chris Corbould, who served as Special Effects and Miniature Effects Supervisor of the film.

The incredible explosion was filmed for a pivotal scene in the film and took place on June 29, 2015 in Erfoud, Morocco and used 8,418 litres of fuel and 33kg of explosives.

Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of "Spectre" said, “it is absolutely tremendous that the Guinness World Records have recognised Chris Corbould’s incredible work in Spectre in which he created the largest explosion ever in film history.”

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday added: “The James Bond movies are synonymous with pushing cinematic boundaries. The latest film, Spectre, has again captured the imagination of global cinemagoers, and this will certainly be due in part to the phenomenal stunts. The scene featuring the world’s largest film stunt explosion is spectacular and will live long in the memory as one of the outstanding moments in the Bond franchise.”

The Largest Film Stunt Explosion is an early front runner for inclusion in Guinness World Records 2017, out next year. The 2016 edition is currently on sale.

"Spectre" follows the release of "Skyfall," the biggest Bond film of all time, which took in $1.1 billion worldwide.

Alden’s ‘Maine’ Event

It was nearing midnight, and Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza hadn’t called it a day. They are still at it — that is, working. Earlier that day, they were titillating the millions of AlDub followers around the world on the Eat, Bulaga! kalyeserye as they celebrated the “100th-day anniversary” of their mind-blowing romance that started on split-screen and survived challenges imposed on them by Maine as Yaya Dub’s Lola Nidora (played by Wally Bayola) until they were finally allowed to meet, dissolving into a tender embrace during a record-breaking show at the 55,000-capacity Philippine Arena (generating 41 million tweets) and…at last, at last!...with the Dubsmash Queen Maine setting aside her fansigns and, yes, talking! It was a “Maine” event, recalling the day ages ago when silent-movie queen Greta Garbo pleasantly shocked the world when she found her voice.

As soon as they were done with the kalyeserye, did Alden and Maine rush home to unwind? Guess again. They went straight to the Blue Leaf Pavilion in McKinley Hill, Taguig City, for the shoot of My Bebe Love, the Vic Sotto-Ai-Ai delas Alas starrer directed by Joey Javier Reyes, an official 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry which marks AlDub’s transition from small screen to big screen. The movie is predicted to top the MMFF, what with the legions of AlDub Nationals (as the followers are known) supporting it in full force.

That was where we found Alden and Maine, at Blue Leaf, still looking fresh and full of energy after a grueling day. After the shoot, Alden would, as usual, go home to Laguna and Maine to Bulacan, and would wake up early the next day for the daily Bulaga grind. There were also the commercials that kept them busy, more than six so far (for, among others, McDonald’s, 555 Sardines, Zonrox, O+, Talk ‘n’ Text, Coke, Bear Brand, The Belo Medical Clinic, and soon Alden’s solo Bench Fix), and counting, making them the new Commercial King and Queen. Nothing succeeds like success, right?

During a lull in the shoot, we grabbed the chance for a chat with Alden and Maine, the very first time they were interviewed together, not through fansigns (like The STAR’s first interview with Maine solo) but verbally.

“Know what,” we told the couple, “we saw your huge billboards (particularly the Belo Clinic’s) along EDSA on our way here. Kaya siguro nagka-trapik-trapik because motorists were stopping and looking.”

Admitted Maine, “For a long time, every time I would pass through EDSA I would wonder when I would see myself on a billboard. I called it my tinatagong pangarap (hidden/secret dream). I can’t believe that it has come true!”

Back then, during the three years that he was patiently waiting for his big break (although his home network GMA did give good projects like Ilustrado in which he played Dr. Jose Rizal and as Regine Velasquez’s co-host in the talent search Bet Ng Bayan, Alden only had one endorsement (Boardwalk, with clothes specially designed by his good friend Avel Bacudio). Things have changed.

Excerpts from our near-midnight Conversation:

How do you feel seeing all those billboards?

Maine: Hindi talaga ako makapaniwala. At kaming dalawa pa ni Alden!

Nag-sink in ba ang katotohanang kayo ang pinakasikat na young love team today?

Alden: There’s nothing to sink in kasi the success is not only of AlDub’s but of the whole show, the Dabarkads. We owe it to the public, to the supporters, and not only to ourselves. And we don’t let it go to our heads.

How will you celebrate Christmas? (They will join the Parade of Stars that ushers in the annual Metro Filmfest.)

Maine: I’m going to Japan with my family, until New Year.

Alden (pretending to be serious): Pupunta din kami ng family ko sa Japan. (Breaking into laughter) Joke only, hahahaha!!! Actually, as usual during every occasion sa Laguna lang kami nagsi-celebrate. Doon kasi ako lumaki, eh! Siguro, we’ll eat out. Family bonding, because these past many weeks halos wala nang time with the family.”

The past 100 days you’ve been so busy. How is your sleeping schedule?

Maine: Nakakatulog pa naman ako kahit papano. I still go home to Bulacan (Sta. Maria).

Alden: I try to catch up on sleep whenever and wherever I have time, kung saan abutan ng antok. Maine and I are enjoying every moment of the kalyeserye.

(To Alden) Your pick-up lines are very witty. Where do you get them? (Sample: Alden: Sigurado ka bang taga-Bulacan ka? Hindi ka taga-Laguna?; Maine: Bakit?; Alden: Kasi luma-Laguna ang nararamdaman ko sa’yo!)

Alden: I get help from the Dabarkads backstage.

Maine: Akala ko sa’yo ‘yon!

Alden: Siempre, at the end of the day, pumipili pa rin ako.

Maine: A, sinasala mo pa ‘yon!

Any more Christmas wishes?

Maine: Sobrang blessed ko na. I can’t wish for more?

Alden: Wala na. Siguro, stability na lang.

Maine: And good health, too.

What Christmas gifts are you giving each other?

Maine: Secret!

Alden: Yeah, secret muna!

Everything started from tuksuhan (teasing). Did you ever imagine that it would be this big?

Maine: Ay, honestly hindi po at all. Kasi biruan lang, eh.

Alden: When the kalyeserye started on July 16, we didn’t have any expectations. I was just told, “Alden, manood ka ha!” There were no instructions.

Maine: Hindi ako na-orient.

Alden: Yeah, hindi kami na-orient!

(To Alden) During your “100th-day” celebration, you gave Maine 100 carnations. What did those flowers mean?

Alden: Those carnations stood for the days that we’ve been together, through the sadness and the happiness, and all the challenges na binigay sa akin ni Lola Nidora.

(To Maine) And you gave Alden a letter. Ano bang content n’un?

Maine: For his eyes only na lang. Medyo personal, eh!

So how is it working together?

Maine: Masaya! I’m thankful that in my first movie, I get to work with great actors. We are given a chance para makilala ang isa’t-isa, di na puro fansigns.

Alden: This movie gives us a chance to show what we can do as actors.

How do you feel now that you are considered The Phenomenal Love Team, known internationally (and featured in BBC and other top networks)?

Maine: Sobrang nakakagulat.

Alden: We prayed for this to happen in our lives. We assure everyone that we are putting it to good use, kasi we are placed here for a purpose and that purpose is to bring happiness and inspiration to people.

How do you handle all this?

Maine: Hindi ko po masyadong iniiisip. Hindi ko inilalagay sa ulo ko ‘yung kasikatan.

Alden: I make sure that I have my feet on the ground.

MANILA, Philippines - Maja Salvador is one of the living proofs that dreams do come true if one just believes it will.

On Friday, Maja ticks off a box in her bucket list as she mounted a concert in SM Mall of Asia Arena dubbed "Majasty."

“Hindi man tayo puno pero sobrang ramdam ko ang pagmamahal n’yo sa akin,” said Maja getting ahead of her detractors. “Hindi porket hindi tayo puno hindi ko ibibigay ang lahat.”

“Pinakita n’yo kung gaano n’yo ako kamahal tonight, isusulit ko ‘yon sa inyo,” she added. “Gusto ko magpasalamat dahil kahit anong nangyari sa career ko, hindi kayo bumitaw.”

Her guests include Piolo Pascual, Paolo Avelino, Enrique Gil, Kakai Bautusta, JC de Vera, Enchong Dee and Rayver Cruz.

Kris Aquino shares photos with Obama at welcome dinner

MANILA, Philippines — Not even TV host-actress Kris Aquino can stop herself from taking a photo with United States President Barack Obama.

The 21 leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathered for a welcome dinner hosted by the Philippines at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

The APEC leaders were welcomed by President Benigno Aquino III, Senate President Franklin Drilon, House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and other Filipino officials. And, of course, as a presidential sister, the ABS-CBN star was present during the welcome dinner and took to immediately to share some highlights from the event.

The 44-year-old actress took a photo of herself with Obama in the background.

"Look who is behind me? He caught me taking the selfie & was so GAME!" she said.

Karen Davila interviewed Alma Moreno...and it got awkward

Earlier this month, Karen Davila, host of ANC's Headstart, interviewed actress-turned politician Alma Moreno, who is running as senator under United Nationalist Alliance, wjich led by presidential candidate and current Vice President Jejomar Binay.

The interview segment runs for 23 minutes and starts getting awkward at the 9:44 mark.

It was at that point that Davila asked Moreno, "If you won a Senate seat, what would be your advocacy in the Senate?" Moreno replied, "Ah, more on sa kababaihan (women)..." Davila countered with, "Like what?" Moreno answered, "Boses ng kababaihan (the voice of women)... Magna Carta of Women..."

To which Davila remarked, "But then the law exists already." Moreno then said, "Pero may mga bagay na di na-implement (There are things that have not been implemented)." Davila again asked, "Like what?" Moreno, at this point, laughed nervously and said, "Teka muna (Wait a second)."

It only goes downhill from there, as Moreno scrambles to answer Davila's questions, such as the one on the reproductive health law. Moreno once again laughed nervously and remarked, "Kailangan pa bang sagutin (Do I need to answer that)?" Davila said, "Of course. You are running for the Senate."

Pauleen Luna wants ‘simple, elegant’ wedding gown, says designer

MANILA, Philippines – Francis Libiran revealed some details on the wedding gown of actress Pauleen Luna.

Pauleen was engaged to Vic Sotto in September. The couple plans to marry in 2016.

"She wants something very simple, very classic because Pauleen… she's very pretty,” said Libiran in an interview with push.com. “Hindi na kailangan ng decorations. She wants it to be timeless and simple.”

He added that the gown style is not backless since Pauleen is conservative.

“Conservative kasi si Pauleen, ang ginawa naming gown is more on her personality. She wants something elegant," he said.

According to Ricky Lo’s “Funfare” column, Pauleen and Vic would like to limit their guests to 50 people, which will be limited to family members and very close friends.

Angel Locsin outsets her road to recovery

Kapamilya star Angel Locsin started her road to wellness as she happily shared to all her fans and followers thru her Instagram account that she already accomplished the first stage of her spine procedure.

It can be remembered that Angel flew to Singapore a few days ago to start with her operation. Angel got her spine injured after series of physical trainings that demands her role as supposed to be Darna.Angel expressed on her Instagram account this Friday (December 4, 2015)—how thanful she is for all the prayers that she gets from her supporters.

Angel was seen laying on a hospital bed, projecting a smile and captioned the photo as:

“Photo taken earlier before the procedure I’m still a little bit groggy and sore but happy & thankful tapos na ang first stage of the procedure thank you all for the prayers! hoping this is it na”
