We all know UST is old but only few realize just how ‘old’ it is. Established on April 28, 1611 by Manila’s third Archbishop, Msgr. Miguel de Benavides, O.P., the University of Santo Tomas predates America’s Harvard University and even the calculus. In fact, both Harvard and UST were not teaching calculus during their first few years because calculus at that time wasn’t invented yet.

Calculus was first introduced in 1684 through Gottfried Leibniz’s “Nova Methodus” followed by Isaac Newton’s “Principia” in 1687. Harvard University, on the other hand, was established in 1636, exactly nine years before UST was elevated from college to the rank of university by Pope Innocent X .

Old it is but world class? I dunno. Kung gusto mo ng really old university, try Oxford circa 1096. Going back to UST comparing to Harvard, not even close. Harvard already produced 48 Nobel Laureates. What did UST produce so far? Boy molester Jesuits.

^ +like muna syo idol sa itaas ko.. UST grad pala si Maning ano, kaya pala hindi nabenta ang Pinas sa mga Kano nuon dahil umiral pagiging patriotic nya.. Sayang ang opportunity na iyon.... At Tomasian din pala si Emil... grabe ang history pala ano... maski sa pagdating ng mga Popes laging nagpupunta sa UST... sikat na Unibersidad at magaganda mga students... Papa Piolo, USTe kaw? hahaha....

Within the context of Philippines' finest learning establishments, UST is at the top five, 4th actually after UP, Ateneo, and DLSU. Sa world, UST is at the 700th ranking (per QS World University Ranking 2015/2015.

Do you know that Manuel L. Quezon is revered by Israel? If you've seen the Schindler's List, Quezon did the same thing for 10000 Jews to escape the Holocaust in 1940. He granted them visas to seek haven in the Philippines.
