What's the difference between Cyberbullying and Trolling?

Is it illegal?

Do you think.. Social Media Administrators should do more about filtering, deleting and monitoring  these types of posts and comments?

Have you ever experienced this?

Hi there Xyriandz!

Nice questions... And it must be implemented agad.. For the others maaring simple lang yan pero may mga tao na nagsa suffer  ng dahil sa ganyan...

They say that there's a BIG difference between Cyberbullying and Trolling... The first one may be considered as minor offense only when the victim can easily ignore the negative comments and completely push them off with equally nasty remarks, while the latter offense falls on a lesser  degree of harrassment, Trolling is considered 'fun' and quite an entertainment for those who think that trolling is funny.

But the thing is... Nasty and too hateful remarks hurt/ harm  other people and it may ruin their lives... It's not at all being too sensitive and too mushy.. But certain issues, must be taken  into consideration... Some social media websites like YouTube is doing something about it... And i think other websites must do the same...cruel nasty remarks hauled at women, jews, arabs, religious groups, homosixuals/gay ..

While the offenders take pride in their way of 'character assassination'  verbal  harassment assaults , does anyone ever think what happens to the victims?

People get hurt... People die ( murdered, suicide) as result from these attacks... It's high time social media network admins do something to filter and delete those  kind of posts and comments.

Reinforcing their 'rules' about this issue is a must and i think ... Since all social media websites have their rules  and we as members signed and agreed with it...we must, in accordance to that rule be aware of it..

Freedom of speech and opinion is everybody's right... But to harrass and harm other people through verbal cruelty isnt at all...a privilege... But an offense and it must NOT be tolerated by anyone.

I am against in any form of censorship and control. The first thing that you should do is to think before you post.

Cyber bullying on social medias with a large number of members...Like facebook, twitter etc... Most personal attacks come unnoticed at kung may nakakapansin man... Unfortuntely... Wala naman masyado pwede gawin about it...

Trolling offensive flame baiting posts directed to someone but somehow... Only a few people know about..including the real
Object of the offensive comments most of the time hardly have the guts to say anything about it..

Dito sa PT... We have the 'report' option... Or ask a MOD to delete the post... But sometimes, doing such, will only aggravate the situation... Bullies, will only fire up all
Their comments and will create an even more heavy atmosphere within the online community...

Admittedly, trash talk as many of us will say... They probably think... Na sa net they can be anyone and can do anything na gusto nila and they can get away with it easily...

Most victims, tend to sulk in silence after the attacks, while most of them can ignore the whole thing there are a few ( especially the young ones) who continiously suffer and become depressed. School counselors often have these kind of problems among the students... The bullying started on a social media... And later on ... Na blown out of proportion... Umabot hanggang sa naging personal na...

Even sa mga workplace, where everyday harrassment from
Other co workers is normal...ngayon mas nagiging complicated na dahil the offense does not end there... Dinadala pa sa mga social medias... Mas offensive, mas cruel and the real problem is mabilis ang pagkalat nito.

I agree, that if you always put yourself in check and post sensible comments... But still, there will always be someone with a twisted mind that will deliberately do something to bait you into a senseless argument regardless kung sensible naman ang koments mo...and that applies to public boards like PT... Normally things like that happen among the members... Tolerable, though , some people might reply back with equally sarcastic and trashy comments ... There are still, sensible ones that will Pacify and mediate.. And if ever... Things are really getting out of control... Nandyan ang staff to finally settle the argument.

Trolling is fine on a certain degree... Being funny and using hilarious satires regarding a certain issue, and avoiding below the belt offensive remarks... that's tolerable....But bullying someone to the point na nagiging personal na and may affect their health is definetely another thing...

And Yes, I stand firm that social media sites must do something to protect it's members from such offensive acts.

So far hindi naman ako nabubully. Depende yan sa post mo.... Wala pang sensible na post na nabully sa social media maski sa mga forums at boards instead you will get some "likes" or support sa mga post mo.

Ang hirap kasi satin eh masyado tayong expressive sa internet without keeping ourselves in check.

Well... People have different ways of expressing themselves... And we cannot simply blame them if that's they're way of perception about certain issues.

Arguments , exchange of ideas, principles and beliefs goes both ways.. We all have the right to disagree and say what we have to say.. Tolerance and Respect is essential regardless kung acceptable sa atin ang sinasabi nila or hindi.

For i find it true, that an inteligent mind can tolerably entertain a certain argument or idea.. Even without fully accepting it.

Pag trolling kasi ginagawa yun just for the heck of it. Pag cyber bullying masama din kasi objective lang niya is to cause pain. Malakas loob because of anonymity. Neither is about sharing opinions

That's certainly true Sir.. Trolling is actually a hilarious satire.. Marami nga gumagawa ng ganyan for no particular reason... As for the reaction, either postive or negative... No importance at all... ' stimulus - reaction' lang yan...mas malaki at negatibong reaction.... much greater is the satisfaction..Trolling is already considered quite an entertainment para sa iba... Nde mapipigilan ...

Cyberbullies usually they bash and pick at people na obviously hindi nila gusto... The verbal  assaults will start on simple subtle remarks... Yung tila painosente ang effect... Kapag no reaction sa taong binubully... They will increase the pressure... Until the aggrieved  party will get sensitive.. Thus, the flame baiting  remarks will continue hanggang sa maging totally hostile na pareho sa isa't isa...

Bad enough... Since nasa net..

Satire at least may underlying message na you're trying to communicate.. Usually political or sociological. Trolling wala talaga

I agree with that.

However... Kung minsan it's hard to draw the line of limitation between the two... I believe that the whole issue is  subjective and determined by the 'tone' ... Kung paano sinabi... If someone is trying to raise an opinion from the people.. By posting funny satirical threads then, it's Trolling... Otherwise... That's entrirely a different story...

This.

The closest you can approach bullying and trolling would be unjust vexation.

As succintly put by the Supreme Court in the case of Baleros Jr. vs. People of the Philippines (G.R. No. 138033 January 30, 2007):

"The paramount question [in a prosecution for unjust vexation] is whether the offender's act causes annoyance, irritation, torment, distress, or disturbance to the mind of the person to whom it is directed."

and Maderazo vs People of the Philippines (G.R. No. 165065 Sept. 26, 2006):

"The second paragraph of the Article is broad enough to include any human conduct which, although not productive of some physical or material harm, could unjustifiably annoy or vex an innocent person. Compulsion or restraint need not be alleged in the Information, for the crime of unjust vexation may exist without compulsion or restraint. However, in unjust vexation, being a felony by dolo, malice is an inherent element of the crime."

Of course, this would cover both cyber bullying and trolling IF it would unjustly vex the victim.
Note that to date, unjust vexation cases cover a face to face interaction. There is no one convicted of unjust vexation due to an online communication.

Precisely my point. Furthermore, in the case of Iglesia ni Cristo vs. CA wherein the catholics were severely vexed and annoyed by the tirades of the members of iglesia ni cristo the SC still favored the INC, invoking freedom of expression.

What could be sensible to you maybe moronic to others. If you belong in a turf, expect to encounter predation from alphas.  This is euphemism for social Darwinism if you want to apply it on this context.  The truth is, we need to cut at the jugular all idiots to prevent them from procreating more idiots. We need to zap whatever life is left on their pathetic existence and one way to accomplish this is to torment them.   Now tell me if this is a crime or I'm doing mankind a favor?

Haha... Coming from you Sir Caligula...

... Evolutionary biology/ psych..and classification of species. I got your point Sir... But then napapaisip ako kase according to the same principle... There's a theory about probability and chance...

Coming from the same origin, probably a greater genus and a lesser one.. Specie such us to this day ... Idiotic, moronic.. Or sophisticated Higly intelligent ones... The outcome was a slow evolutionary process...at aminin or hindi both genus , given the environmental diversities and consequence....contributed to that gradual change...

I agree that there will always be the superior higly competitive specie versus the weaker ones... Pero there's always that probability that they might not produce a class A offspring...

Kung merong nearly perfect... Meron den not so perfect and perfectly imperfect. E baka kapag lahat superior , maging inbred yan... Di kaya?

Classification of species... Evolutionary biology...? Quite too complex issue to relate to a simple issue such as this... Knowing what is right and wrong.... What is tolerable and not....

But i must agree... Some idiotic and moronic comments were deemed sensible... For the sole reason that a large number of individuals  who  deemed themselves superior agree to 'torment' an individual simply because he is 'weak' and have lesser tolerance and not as competitive as them..

We all have our sensibilities and capabilities...and i believe that those with superior intelligence must know this... To understand and NOT to exploit the consequence.

But admittedly, it is certain, that some people must be whacked down by the head to knock some sense into their minds... Not because they are weak or idiotic... But simply because they are too lazy to mind their doings.. Thinking that life is too simple and easy...

Or siguro ganun lang talaga... Evolution, the weak and the superior... The predator and the prey...without them...this life will be quite too boring... Isn't it...?
