Maggot cheese
Maggot cheese, or Casu Marzu, is a traditional Sardinian cheese riddled with live insect larvae. The live insects are added to breakdown the cheese fats and make it soft and gooey. Some people clear the maggots from the cheese before consuming; others eat the cheese with the larvae still in it.

    Hypercolor ice cream
A Spanish physicist has developed an ice cream that changes colour as it is licked. Called xamaleon, the frozen treat starts off a pale blue. Before it is served, a "love elixer" is sprayed onto the ice cream, which turns it purple. As it licked into oblivion, it turns pink. And best of all? It’s tutti-frutti flavoured!

    Cat poop coffee
Kopi Luwak is a coffee made from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet (known as a toddy cat) then passed through its digestive system. The cat-like animals are fussy about which berries they choose to eat, hence the coffee beans are considered to be the finest and most expensive in the world.

    Bird’s nest soup
Bird’s nest soup is a made from a species of bird that produces the thick soup from saliva nests. The Chinese delicacy uses rare edible bird’s nests in the soup which makes it amongst the world’s most expensive animal products consumed by humans.

    Crispy-fried tarantula
If you've ever been bitten by a spider now you can get your own back by eating the deep-fried version. Considered a local delicacy in Cambodia, tarantulas are deep fried, covered in garlic and salt and sold on the streets.

    Pufferfish
Despite being one of the second most poisonous vertebrate fish in the world, pufferfish is a celebrated Japanese cuisine. If the dish, named fugu, is prepared incorrectly it will lethally poison the victim.

    Live octopus
In Korea, Sannakji is a raw dish consisting of live octopus. The octopus is cut into pieces whilst still alive, drizzled with sesame oil and served whilst the tentacles are still squirming on the plate. Now that’s food for thought.

    Alligator cheesecake
The main ingredient in this savoury cheesecake is alligator. The swamp monster is an alternative meat that is commonly used in Louisiana due to the commercial farming of the reptile in the southern US state.

    Haggis
Haggis may look like the bag end of a bagpipe but it’s actually an edible Scottish tradition. The legendary highland delicacy is made up of sheep’s heart, liver and lung, minced with onion and mixed with oatmeal then traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours.

M.I.L.K. is an epic photographic celebration of what it is to be part of a family, share the gift of friendship and more than anything else, to be loved. Inspired by the 1950s landmark photographic exhibition "The Family of Man", M.I.L.K. began as a worldwide search to develop a collection of extraordinary and geographically diverse images portraying humanity’s "Moments of Intimacy, Laughter and Kinship" (M.I.L.K.). This search took the form of a global photographic competition in 1999.
