Ways to Step Up Your Instant Noodles

Monosodium glutamate, or MSG, is commonly thought of as something bad and unhealthy, but there is actually no clear evidence to suggest this. In fact, it was actually proven that MSG is naturally found in a lot of food like tomatoes, aged cheese and beef as said by Harold Mcgee, an expert on food science.

We’re not here to promote this much-debated additive and flavor enhancer. Rather, we’ll talk about the food that contains it: instant noodles. These aren’t exactly the healthiest things in the world, but taken in moderation, it’s actually not that big of a deal.

We all grew up eating instant noodles and until today, it’s still the quickest, cheapest, and easiest food to prepare. If you just use your imagination, or the internet, you’ll find a lot of ways to enhance, literally spice it up, and make it your own. This is perfect for people on a budget or in a hurry, like college students and people doing overtime more often than usual.

Here are simple ideas you can try out. These will not exactly take 3-5 minutes to make as the packs suggest, but try them out. Remember, though: everything in moderation!

Cook your favorite instant noodles, like instant pancit canton or yakisoba like you normally would. Meanwhile, stir fry vegetables like garlic, onions, carrots, green beans in sesame oil. Add the cooked instant noodles and stir fry until crispy. Add a fried/boiled/poached egg and garnish with spring onions.

Beat three to four eggs and mix in the seasoning packet of your favorite instant noodles. Melt about a tablespoon of butter in a pan and cook the eggs. You can put the cooked noodles inside the omelette or even break up the uncooked noodles for texture. Add some pepper.

Use your favorite instant ramen for this one. Grind uncooked noodles into a powder and add the seasoning packet, then also put some of the seasoning packet in buttermilk. If buttermilk’s not accessible (it usually is in Manila), you can use beaten eggs. Put the chicken in the seasoned buttermilk/eggs then dip into the flavored powder and deep fry until done. While still hot, season the fried chicken with more of the flavoring powder.

This one’s easy. Just add your favorite seasoning powder to mayonnaise and use it as a dip or sauce. Try different seasoning packets or you can add fresh garlic and lemon juice for a flavored garlic aioli.

The noodles on an instant noodle pack are already cooked so you can use it in salads for texture. Break up the noodles and add to your favorite salad. You can also use the seasoning packet for extra flavor on your vinaigrette.

Cook noodles and let cool, add to a beaten egg and shape into a bun then refrigerate. When ready, fry the noodle buns and add whatever you like, i like putting burgers with lettuce and tomatoes and i season the burger with the seasoning packet, but any other meat, chicken, fish or even vegetables would do, it really depends on your personal preference. You can use the seasoning on the bun, too.

Make the cheese sauce using butter, flour, milk and cheese: First, melt a tablespoon of butter in a saucepan then add the same amount of flour. Stir and cook for a minute in low heat until well incorporated, add then a cup of milk and whisk until well blended. Add the cheese and mix. Add some salt and pepper to taste. Mix with cooked instant noodles.

5 SURPRISING HACKS USING TEA BAGS

The majority of us who drinks tea throw away the soggy tea bags without a second thought. Here are 5 amazing things you can do with them.

1. Stop that bruise.

Tea contains tannoids which constricts blood vessels and reduces swelling and inflammation. Soak a black tea bag in water for 5 minutes and place against the area to  minimize discoloration and discomfort.. If a bruise does show up,  it will be smaller and heal faster.

2.Super cheap sunburn relief.

Tannic acid in tea can help abate that agonizing feeling sunburn brings. For minor spots, briefly dip a tea bag in cold water and place on reddened area. For all over relief, place 10 tea bags in a cold bath and enjoy a nice soak.

3. Heal those winter chapped lips.

The antioxidant polyphenols in tea can help damaged skin cells and increase cell renewal. Simply place a moistened tea bags on your lips for 30 seconds a day, three or five times a week or when the need arises.

4. Instant relief for bleeding gums.

The tannoids in tea have astringent properties that can help numb the ache and remedy the bleeding quickly. It can also prevent future infections by forming a protective layer over the exposed tissue. All you need to do is place a dampened tea bag on the affected area and and gently bite down.

5. Freshen up the carpet.

Tea leaves absorb moisture that causes funky odors. Split open an unused tea bag, and sprinkle the dry tea leaves over the rug(s). Let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes then vacuum them up.

Enjoy these 5 clever uses for tea bags. They are affordable and helpful in ways we didn't even realize.

16 Kitchen Hacks Every Girl (i must say even Guys) Should Know

These tricks will make your life SO much easier.

Cooking definitely has its perks. It lets us choose ingredients that are good for our body, and allot serving sizes so we won’t overeat or waste leftovers. P.S. It also means we get to host parties or prepare special dishes for our ~*special*~ someone!

But let’s face it: preparing food can be tedious and really, really messy. Most of the time, the final product doesn’t even come out the way we expect it to! But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it at all, especially with these the tricks to banish your kitchen struggles for good:

1. Use two plates to safely cut little tomatoes at once. Lay the tomatoes on one plate, then cover it with the other. Run a sharp knife through the gap while holding the top plate in place. (via Cosmopolitan.com)

2. Speed up ripening by placing the fruit in a paper bag. The concentrated ethylene gas will make it ripen faster. (via Greatist.com)

3. Place raw eggs in a bowl of cold water to see if they’re still edible. If the egg sinks, it’s still okay. That means the liquid inside it hasn’t evaporated yet. (via Greatist.com)

4. Rub vegetable oil on eggs before refrigerating them. This will keep eggs fresh for three or four weeks more. (via Distractify.com)

5. Peel the banana from the bottom up. That's how a monkey would eat it! No more struggles breaking the stem! (via Greatist.com)

6. Refrigerate or freeze the onion for about 30 minutes before slicing it. This will prevent slicing onions from making you weep.

7. Peel a ginger with a spoon. Say goodbye to wasting ginger flesh from overtrimming with a peeler! (via Foodrepublic.com)

8. Make rich hot chocolate by melting supermarket truffles in hot milk. (via Cosmopolitan.com)

9. Broken coffee maker? No worries. Boil coffee in a pot of hot water. Once the grounds have settled to the bottom, coffee’s ready! (via Greatist.com)

10. Ice the breast of poultry to cook the meat evenly. The dark thigh meat needs more time to cook than the white breast meat. (via Greatist.com)

11. Place apple slices in a mixture of one part honey with two parts water, or just plain brine, to keep them from browning. (via Theyummylife.com)

12. Scrub fresh fruits and vegetables with a mixture of water and baking soda to remove grime and pesticides. (via Greatist.com)

13. Make your own buttermilk by adding 4 to 5 tablespoons of vinegar or fresh lemon juice to one cup of milk. (via Foodnetwork.com)

14. Make stale chips crisp again by microwaving them. (via Livestrong.com)

15. Grate the butter with a cheese grater or wrap the butter in plastic then flatten it with a rolling pin. This will soften butter ASAP! (via Greatist.com)

16. Freeze soft cheese for about 30 minutes before grating them. (via Cookinglight.com)

17. Tap the lid against the table or smack it with a spoon to open a stubborn jar. (via Lifehacker.com)

POMELO SALAD RECIPE

3 tablespoons fish sauce
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon palm sugar (can sub brown sugar)
1 pomelo fruit
2 tablespoons coconut flakes
2 tablespoons dry roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons shallots, chopped
1 cup mint leaf, chopped
2 -3 bird chiles, finely chopped
bibb lettuce, to serve on

DIRECTIONS :

Mix together the fish sauce, lime juice, and sugar. (Stevia is a decent replacement.) Stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Set aside.
Peel the pomelo and separate into segments. Remove any peel. Place the fruit in a bowl.
When ready to serve, pour off any of the juice (I reserve for dressings). Add the coconut, peanuts, shallots, mint, and chiles to the fruit.Pour the dressing over and mix well. Add more lime, salt, or sugar to taste.
Place each serving on a leaf of lettuce.

SHRIMP SALAD WITH POMELO
This recipe is obviously from Davao, shrimp salad with pomelo fruit slices. Since pomelo is one of the kinds of fruit that is abundant in that place, maybe that is the reason why this recipe originated there. There are also many variation of shrimp pomelo salad that differ on garnishing. You can also use shredded crab sticks instead of wanton wrappers strips or croutons.

Ingredients:

1 MAGGI shrimp Broth Cube dissolved in
2 cups water
1/2 kilogram shrimps, peeled and vein removed
1 small cucumber seeded then cut into strips
1 stalk celery, blanched and chopped
1/2 kilogram tomatoes, cut into wedges
1 whole sweet Davao pomelo, segmented
Assorted salad greens
Fried wanton wrapper strips or croutons
2 pieces hard boiled egg, cut into wedges

Dressing (Just combine the following)

1 cup corn oil
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 tablespoon mustard
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons MAGGI Chili sauce
1 tablespoon MAGGI Savor
1/4 cup honey
4 grams MAGGI Magic Sarap

How to make the shrimp salad with pomelo:

Boil shrimp stock and blanch peeled shrimps until shrimps are pink and plump. Set aside.
In a bowl, combine the cucumber, celery, tomatoes, pomelo segments, salad greens and prepared shrimps. Chill.
Toss with the combined dressing just before serving.
Top with fried wanton strips or croutons and hard boiled egg wedges.[/size][/color

:peace:How to Make the Fried-and-Scrambled (aka Frambled)

It's really the best of both worlds.

When it comes to matters of breakfast, there's no opinion more personal than how a person likes their eggs. Most people land in one of two camps: Fried or scrambled. Each has its own merits: The fried variety sports crispy edges (maybe you've heard—we like them extra-crispy) and wins extra points for being more Instagram-friendly, while the scrambled stuff has a lighter-than-air fluffiness and seemingly endless mix-in possibilities.

Our question: Why can't eggs be both? They can—all you have to do is Framble. For the uninitiated, here's a list of Frequently Asked Framble Questions (FAFQs):

WHAT'S A FRAMBLE?

The Framble is exactly what you think it is: A Frankenstein-like mash-up offried and scrambled eggs that brings the best of both worlds to the breakfast table. It's a fried egg without any of the annoying parts, as there's no need to let the whites set or to coddle the precious egg yolks so they don't spill all over the place like some sort of molten Dick Tracy cake. At the same time, it's a scramble with some textural variation and less clean up.

HEY! I LIKE POACHED EGGS. WHAT ABOUT THOSE?

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to make a Pramble (poached-scramble).

DO I NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT TO MAKE A FRAMBLE?

Absolutely not. You don't even need to break out a mixing bowl or whisk. That's because every cooking step takes place in one nonstick skillet. Don't have one? We've got you covered.

CAN I USE DIFFERENT MIX-INS, LIKE I WOULD WITH PLAIN OLD
SCRAMBLED EGGS?

You sure can! Virtually anything you'd want to incorporate scrambled eggs will work with the Framble. We're big fans of spicy meats (like chorizo or Andouille), wilty greens, and hearty, cooked grains.

ALL THIS SOUNDS GREAT! HOW DO I FRAMBLE?

We thought you'd never ask. Start by melting 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet one at a time. Use a rubber spatula to break the egg yolks and incorporate them into the egg whites. If you're using any mix-ins, this is the time to add them. Continue to stir the Frambled eggs until the yolks are set, about 2-3 minutes.
