(UAAP Basketball) La Salle makes quick work of still winless Adamson
MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Green Archers got their rhythm going after a searing 20-0 run to start the game and never looked back to put away the still winless Adamson Soaring Falcons, 66-57, in the men’s basketball tournament of UAAP Season 77 on Sunday, August 31 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Archers shot 53% and sank 14 inside points in the opening canto to turn a 5-3 early deficit into a 23-5 advantage before ending the first up 23-8.
Adamson, led by Don Trollano’s 26 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists, turned the tables around in the second frame and shot 47% while dousing cold water on La Salle’s offense to keep it close at the half, 33-27. But the Falcons’ efforts to cut the deficit in the second half, though aggressive, weren’t enough against the defending champions, who entered the fourth sporting a 55-43 advantage.

(UAAP Basketball) Reyes misses late FTs as UP loses heartbreaker to Ateneo
MANILA, Philippines - Once again, UP was right there.
With less than a second left on the game clock and Ateneo ahead 70-69, Mikee Reyes was at the free throw line. All he needed to do was to make one to send the game to overtime. If he made both, the Fighting Maroons would escape with their second win in Season 77 of the UAAP men's basketball tournament,.
Reyes had already exploded for 15 points in the fourth quarter. However, with the pressure at its highest, he missed the first free throw. And a few moments later, he missed the second.

FEU holds off spirited Adamson, barges into Final 4
MANILA, Philippines – The FEU Tamaraws booked their ticket to the Final Four after dealing the spirited Adamson Soaring Falcons a 90-73 beating and came away with 10-2 win-loss record in the men’s basketball tournament of UAAP Season 77 on Wednesday, September 3 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Despite solid efforts by the Falcons, even leading by as much as 12 points in the first half, the Tamaraws exploded in the fourth period, outscoring their opponent 28-13, to make a return trip to the Final Four this season and solidify their hold of the top spot in the standings.
FEU, who were ousted by eventual champions La Salle in a virtual best-of-3 last season, is looking to secure one of two twice-to-beat advantages by winning their last two games of the eliminations. Winning just one of those games assures them of at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat.

(UAAP Basketball) Ateneo returns to Final 4 after trampling Adamson
MANILA, Philippines - The Eagles have landed in the Final Four.
The Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles are back in the Final Four after trampling the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 67-52, on Saturday, September 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena, putting themselves in prime position to snatch one of the twice-to-beat advantages in the men's basketball tournament of UAAP Season 77.

(UAAP Basketball) National University gets closer to Final Four with UP win
MANILA, Philippines - Coming off a disappointing loss to the UE Red Warriors, National University Bulldogs head coach Eric Altamirano wanted his boys to play their style of game against the UP Fighting Maroons - hard-nosed defense and quality offense with balanced contributions from everyone on the roster.
His Bulldogs made sure to step up to the challenge.
"As what I told the boys, we had to assert our identity in this game," Altamirano said after NU defeated UP, 66-51, on Sunday, September 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

(UAAP Basketball) Ravena wins MVP award
Kiefer Ravena is expected to be the UAAP’s most valuable player winner.
With one game in the elimination, all that is left for Ravena is to formally accept the award as no other player is within spitting distance of the huge statistical lead he has built up in anchoring Ateneo to the top of the standings.
Ravena averaged a league-best 21.2 points, with 5.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals to earn an unofficial tally of 77.6429 statistical points to emerge as the soon-to-be winner of the most coveted individual honor.
But more than the statistics, it was his take-charge attitude that carried Ateneo to 11 wins during the elimination round and the top spot entering the Final Four.
This virtue came in full display during two come-from-behind overtime wins against University of the East in the first round and against Far Eastern University last Saturday.
Against UE, Ravena fired a personal-best 38 points, lifting the Eagles back from a 21-point second quarter deficit to prevail 93-91 after an extra five-minute period.
Recently, he bucked a 5-of-28 shooting and carried Ateneo to overtime after trailing 65-46 with 6:12 left in regulation then beat FEU, 68-64, in overtime.
Ravena is expected to win the most lopsided MVP race since the UAAP decided to focus solely on statistics as the basis for the award.
Jeron Teng of La Salle is a distant second with 69 points.
