(NBA) Melo rules out trade, open to less than max deal

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Carmelo Anthony said Friday he knows "for a fact" the Knicks won't trade him, and said he would be open to staying in New York for less than a maximum contract.

Anthony has said he plans to become a free agent this summer. The NBA's trade deadline is Thursday, but Anthony ruled out any chance the Knicks would move him to avoid the possibility they could lose him for nothing in July.

NEW ORLEANS -- Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond was all business in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge. He said he came into the game with the mindset to take the MVP, and that's exactly what he did. Drummond made up for missing last year's game as a rookie because of an injury with a monster performance that included 30 points and a Rising Stars record 25 rebounds -- 14 on the offensive glass (Team Webber managed 28 total rebounds) -- as Team Hill beat Team Webber 142-136.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- With the first pick in the 2014 NBA All-Star fantasy draft ...

"I'd go with LeBron," Toronto's DeMar DeRozan said.

"I'll take KD," said Cleveland's Kyrie Irving.

That's how close it is right now between LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

They are the very best of the NBA's best, both so talented that even guys who play against them every night have trouble deciding which one they think is better.

(Winter Olympics) Martinez finishes 19th at Winter Olympics figure skating finale

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez finished 19th at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics men's figure skating finals on Saturday morning (Manila time).

The lone Filipino Winter Olympian Martinez, 17, garnered 119.44 points in his final free skate routine for a two-day total of 184.25. Martinez skated third and held an early lead after six performances.

Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan won the gold medal with a score of 280.09, while Patrick Chan of Canada won silver. Kazakhstan’s Denis Ten, who finished ninth after the short program, moved up to third place to earn bronze honors.

(NBA) Team Bosh wins Sears Shooting Stars Challenge

NEW ORLEANS -- Miami's Chris Bosh hit a half-court shot to give Team Bosh the victory in the Shooting Stars contest that opened up NBA All-Star Saturday night.

Bosh and teammates Dominique Wilkins and WNBA player Swin Cash had a final-round time of 31.4 seconds.

(NBA) Lillard, Burke win Taco Bell Skills Challenge

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Portland's Damian Lillard is an NBA All-Star Saturday night skills challenge champion for a second straight year.

The team of Lillard and Trey Burke, representing the Western Conference, beat the tandem of Michael Carter-Williams and Victor Oladipo of the East in the final round by a tenth of a second.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- San Antonio's Marco Belinelli won the 3-point contest at NBA All-Star Saturday night.

The Italian, who previously played for New Orleans, needed to win a tiebreaker round in the final to beat Bradley Beal.

(NBA) Wall leads East to All-Star dunk triumph

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- John Wall soared over his mascot, and the East stomped on the West in the slam dunk contest.

Wall's sensational slam finished off a clean sweep for the Washington star, Paul George and Terrence Ross in the contest's new battle format, helping the Eastern Conference earn a 2-2 tie against the West on All-Star Saturday night.

(MMA) Bellator pulls a stunner, signs top lightweight Gilbert Melendez to multi-year deal

On Thursday, with contract talks between the UFC and free agent lightweight Gilbert Melendez at an impasse, UFC president Dana White suggested during a news conference in Las Vegas that Melendez should test the market.

Melendez apparently took him at his word and on Friday, signed a multi-fight, multi-year deal with rival Bellator. The UFC has the right to match, though so far there has been no indication of its position. A UFC spokesperson told Yahoo Sports the company would have no comment on the signing at this point.

Via text message, White told Yahoo Sports he had not yet seen the Bellator/Melendez contract.

Melendez announced the deal via Twitter. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said he has long sought to land Melendez, ranked No. 2 in the UFC's deep lightweight division. But Bellator also has several outstanding lightweights that Melendez could fight, including champion Eddie Alvarez and former champion Michael Chandler.

(UFC) UFC Fight Night 36 Results: Lyoto Machida Outstrikes Gegard Mousasi, Earns Unanimous Decision

Lyoto Machida went the distance to defeat Gegard Mousasi, winning a unanimous decision in the main event for UFC Fight Night 36 in Brazil on Saturday night.

Machida showed to be a step quicker than Mousasi throughout the fight, earning the judges' scores of 49-46, 50-45 and 50-45.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- There was a hint of panic as Dwyane Wade wondered whether elder actually was eldest.

''Who's the oldest player here?'' Wade asked.

The Miami Heat star can relax. He's not even the old man on the NBA's Eastern Conference All-Star team.

But he's close, and he can't believe how quickly it happened.

''Me and Bron, we were talking to (DeMar) DeRozan and Kyrie (Irving) and Paul George and we were like, 'When we came in we were in y'all's position,''' Wade said of a conversation he and LeBron James had earlier in the weekend with some of their teammates who faced the West on Sunday night in the All-Star game.

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the Philippines ended their campaign on a high note as they demolished University of the East in straight sets, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18, in the 76th UAAP Women's Volleyball tournament, Sunday, February 16 at The Arena in San Juan City.

Fresh off a big win against Far Eastern University, the Lady Maroons posted their first back-to-back victories since Season 72 as Angeli Araneta ended her year with a bang, scoring 15 points to tow UP to a 3-11 record.

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University wasted a golden opportunity to barge straight into the stepladder playoff as Ateneo de Manila University walloped them in three sets, 25-17, 25-19, 25-16, in the 76th UAAP Women's Volleyball tournament, Sunday, February 16, at The Arena in San Juan City.

The result gave Adamson University a shimmer of hope as the Lady Tamaraws will have to face them in a do-or-die playoff on Wednesday to determine who will complete the Final Four who will slug it out in a stepladder format.

(NBA) Irving leads East past Durant, West

EW ORLEANS (AP) -- The Eastern Conference finally stopped Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin as it stopped its losing streak at the NBA All-Star game.

Kyrie Irving had 31 points and 14 assists and was voted the game's Most Valuable Player, Carmelo Anthony made an All-Star record eight 3-pointers and scored 30 points, and the East rallied for a 163-155 victory over the West on Sunday night.
