(Premier League) Arsene Wenger Expected to Sign New Three-Year Arsenal Contract Worth £24m

Arsene Wenger is close to agreeing a new three-year contract worth £24 million with Arsenal, a deal that will see his tenure at the North London club enter a third decade.

Wenger's current contract at the Gunners is due to expire at the end of the current season, but having seemingly come through a difficult period in his tenure to guide the club back to the top of the Premier League table, The Times (subscription required) reports that agreement between club and manager is very close.

(NBA) Sources: Raptors reach agreement to send Rudy Gay to Kings

The Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement in principle to send Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Kings will send Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons, Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes to the Raptors. The Kings will also acquire Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray in the deal, sources said.

The Raptors and Gay had become increasingly unhappy with each other, league sources said, and Gay's contract was an obstacle to the franchise's desire to begin the rebuilding process.

Gay is making $17.8 million this year, and holds a player option for $19.3 million for the 2014-15 season. The forward will almost assuredly exercise the option and take that salary next season.

The Kings plan to use Gay at the stretch-four position.

Ujiri is in his first full season running the Raptors. The possibility of Toronto getting into the high lottery for the star-packed 2014 NBA Draft is important, especially with the possibility of selecting Toronto-native Andrew Wiggins of Kansas. Toronto has lost five straight games, and dropped to 6-12 in the Eastern Conference.

(NBA) Kings acquire Gay from Raptors in 7-player trade

TORONTO (AP) -- Rudy Gay and the Sacramento Kings both want the same thing: a fresh start.

They're hoping they can create one together.

The seven-player trade sending Gay from the Toronto Raptors to Sacramento was completed Monday, a day after the teams reached an agreement. The Raptors received point guard Greivis Vasquez and forwards Patrick Patterson, John Salmons and Chuck Hayes. The Kings also acquired center Aaron Gray and forward Quincy Acy.

(Tennis) Nadal to return to Buenos Aires event after nine years

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - World number one Rafael Nadal will play in the Buenos Aires ATP tournament in February for the first time since 2005, the Spaniard said on Wednesday.

The tournament to be held at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club from February 10 to 16 is part of the Latin American swing of claycourt events which also includes tournaments in Chile, Brazil and Mexico.

(Champions League) United top group, eliminate Shakhtar

Manchester United FC put their Premier League worries behind them with a 1-0 victory over FC Shakhtar Donetsk – a result that eliminated the Ukrainian title holders from this season's UEFA Champions League while securing first place in Group A.

Phil Jones's 67th-minute goal earned United a third straight home success in Group A and left Shakhtar ruing a series of missed opportunities in a match where they had three times as many attempts on target. While United can now look forward to Monday's draw for the round of 16, Shakhtar's name will go into the hat for the UEFA Europa League last 32 draw an hour later after Bayer 04 Leverkusen pipped them to second spot.

Manchester City FC came from two goals behind to bring FC Bayern München's ten-match winning run in the UEFA Champions League to an end.

Early goals from Thomas Müller and Mario Götze looked to have set the holders on course for an impressive six victories from as many Group D matches. Instead David Silva's first-half response, an Aleksandar Kolarov penalty and James Milner's third turned the tables on the hosts in the second period, though ultimately it was not enough to topple the Bundesliga giants from the top of the section.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been nominated for the FIFpro World XI along with 14 other forwards, including Ballon d'Or finalists Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo and Messi are two of four nominees hailing from La Liga, with Diego Costa and Neymar plying their trade in Spain's flight as well. Luis Suarez, Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney represent the Premier League, while Mario Mandzukic and Robert Lewandowski are the two Bundesliga stars making the 15-man short list.
