(Tennis) Djokovic romps to Shanghai win despite injury scare

Shanghai (AFP) - Defending champion Novak Djokovic shrugged off an injury scare to win his Shanghai Masters opener on Wednesday, keeping alive the prospect of a mouthwatering quarter-final against Roger Federer.

In a late-evening match, newly re-crowned world number one Rafael Nadal polished off Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov in less than an hour, with just five unforced errors in a 6-3, 6-2 win.

(NBA) Kobe progresses, but still weeks away from playing

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Although Kobe Bryant is making steady progress in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, he's still a few weeks away from playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bryant is back with the Lakers after a short trip to Germany to get treatment on his right knee, another trouble area for the 35-year-old guard. He sat on Los Angeles' bench for an exhibition game Tuesday night, and he'll travel with the team to China later this week.

(UAAP Basketball) Animo! La Salle nips UST in overtime to bag UAAP crown

What started out as a troubled campaign ended in an unlikely championship for De La Salle University.

Diminutive guard Almond Vosotros drilled in the go-ahead basket with 19.7 seconds left then the Green Archers held their fort defensively in the crunch to outlast University of Santo Tomas in overtime 71-69 and claim the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball throne before an electrifying Saturday crowd at the MOA Arena.

(Boxing) Bradley wins split decision over Marquez

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Once again, Timothy Bradley's hand was raised in victory. Once again, he heard the boos.

The script was familiar enough Saturday night for Bradley against Juan Manuel Marquez. So, too, was the result.

Bradley did just enough to win once again, beating Marquez by split decision to remain unbeaten and keep his piece of the welterweight title.
