The race car-inspired Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse – a run-out, motorsport-influenced version of Lamborghini's smallest model – will make its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.
The Squadra Corse name refers to Lamborghini's new motorsport department and the new model is closely related to the Gallardo Super Trofeo race car. The two cars share the same V10 engine and large, carbon-fibre rear wing, and both have a removable engine cover with quick-release system.
A number of carbon-fibre and aluminium elements are aimed at keeping weight to a minimum, and at 1340kg the Squadra Corse weighs less than the standard LP 560-4 model.
The Squadra Corse's 5.0-litre engine is the same one used for the Super Trofeo, and it also gets the same four-wheel-drive system and "e-gear" six-speed transmission with steering wheel shift paddles.
Lamborghini quotes a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 199mph; carbon-ceramic brakes are designed to stop the car just as quickly.
Exterior upgrades for the Squadra Corse include a decal strip in the colours of the Italian flag and a high-gloss black finish for the front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19in alloy wheels. The brake calipers are available in red, black or yellow, and there's a choice of white, yellow, red or grey paintwork.
A combination of carbon-fibre and Alcantara trim give the interior a racier look, while customers can specify racing bucket seats or "comfort" seats.
Lamborghini is yet to announce a price for the Squadra Corse, but there's likely to be a premium over the Superleggera model its based on so a figure of about £190,000 is likely.
More details will be revealed when the Squadra Corse is officially unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September. An all-new Gallardo is due to be revealed next year.
