Tips For Getting Rid Of Blackheads

Blackheads, like acne, are the result of overactive oil glands. The oil in the pores mixed with skin debris, and when exposed to air, becomes black. Blackheads are most often seen on the face, and occasionally on the back.

Most people see blackheads when they reach puberty. Cleaning the skin often will help remove dead skin, the debris that mixes with the skin’s oil. Using too much makeup or moisturizer also increases the chance of blackheads forming but aside from keeping the skin clean, there is little a person can do to prevent blackheads.

Exfoliating weekly helps get rid of blackheads. A mixture of baking soda and water or lemon juice and sugar rubbed on in gentle circular motions, then rinsed well helps get rid of blackheads.

Changing pillowcases nightly helps by not allowing dead skin on a dirty pillow case to attach to an oily face. Everyone loses a certain amount of dead skin every day but during puberty, oily skin collects this dead skin, causing blackheads. Clean pillowcases help minimize the creation of new blackheads.

Some people have had success using either prescription or over-the-counter retinoid formulas. The vitamin A derivative is supposed to improve skin and reduce the formation of dead skin cells so that it is less likely to form blackheads.
