The more I look at it, sa nagiging takbo ng mga eleksyon and how ignorance dominates the electorate at sa naoobserbahan ko rin sa US na nagiging lame duck si Obama dahil sa inadequecy of congress due to partisanship, I'm beginning to think that democracy had reached an impasse.

Anong say nyo?

Democracy (the concept) works. Those who are the most popular with the people win. The problem is, the masses aren't informed enough, and thus it is not necessarily the best who win.

I am not sure if it ever has worked. Anyway, a choice of democracy as opposed to what in your mind?

Sa pilipinas, democracy just make it more costly for those nepotist who will otherwise be in power anyway.

Sa US? Run and controlled by lobbyist and corporations if you asked me. Even the Federal reserve itself is said to be a private banking cartel. May even gotten Lincoln killed.

Perhaps democracy will work when the electorate evolves. When? I have no idea.

Sobrang abused ang democracy dito sa pinas, lalo pa now na parang ang pinoy ay lague nalang nakadepende sa sinasabi ng Media...

Right. The media king makers. Alam kasi nila ang ulo ng tao napaka daling bilugin.

Propaganda is everywhere these days. Even in the most innocent of things, subconciously gina-guide na pala ang opinion mo right under your nose.

Democracy isn't the problem. It's the people running the govenrment and the lack of middle class. We got too much class C, D and E na nauuuto madali ng mga lecheng pulitiko.

A lot of problems on democracy are blamed on the people abusing it. Either by the Leaders or the constituency.
Now there are two questions that arise from this statement,
First are we mature enough as a race, a nation, to handle a democracy? is Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore right after all when he states that we South East Asians because of our cultural, historical background are not ready for a western type of democracy?
Second, can't there be a universal template for democracy?

Agreed. Kaya nga ako tinamad bumoto. Banana republic and dating eh.

I don't care much for Erap, pero I think he won a landslide victory nung presidential elections only to be ousted by a few thousands, and palitan ng mas karumal dumal pang nilalang.

The guy won, and the people have spoken. Why was it so easy for them to knock him off?

10 years you can't oust the last administration, kahit andami ng kaso and whistle blowers, kabikabilang mga impeachment Trojan horse.

Pero itong isa? Jueteng? There are no saints here, and I have no horse in this race pero obviously some strings are being pulled and the people (who are supposed to be in charge) as always is none the wiser.

It's a dog and pony show.

Good insights yanzmyk and amy2004.

Universal template for democracy? Care to elaborate amy2004?

Fantastic insights mga bro and gals.

Prime hit something that made me question if democracy is still effective.  Kung paano nito binabandera na para ito sa masa, na ito ang vox populi o boses ng nakararami. But this runs contrary to the engine of the economy under the democratic process which is free enterprise. At the end of the day, people chose what they want, they enjoy relative freedom but the wealth of the nation is still controlled by the 10% of the population. Come election time, candidates lobby for these oligarchs' contribution and favors are reciprocated, etcetera.

Just some rambling thoughts that keep me on the toilet seat longer. But what's the alternative? Ika nga sa senado, don't complain and shut up if you don't have a proposal.

Nagiging Weapong ng Ruling Oligarch Class ang Masa and using democracy as a mask para magawa ang gusto nila.

In my opinion, what happened during the Edsa 1 and 2, I don't call it Democracy, I don't like Marcos, I don't like Erap either, Nor GMA, but the Edsa 1 and 2 for me is what You call a "Mob Rule" disguising as democracy.

Mob rule? Sabagay. There are times our "leaders" remind me of mobsters, specially when they act like one, so I guess that's only fitting.

Anyway just goes to show the power of the unthinking majority.

Another reason why there should be fewer of us; a  flock of sheep is more manageable when they are fewer.

The sheeps might can be scary and you temper that might through Force, Propaganda, Money, six, Drugs, Ignorance or Justin Beiber.
