Chris Weidman Knew He’d Have to Beat Anderson Silva Twice to Silence the Doubters

Heading into the UFC 162 middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman, it was known that if Silva lost there would be an immediate rematch.

“Guy hasn’t lost in the UFC ever; has beat everybody. He loses that fight, he’s the guy for a rematch if he wants it,” said UFC president Dana White during a media luncheon days prior to the July 6 event.

Silva initially indicated that he didn’t want a rematch, but changed his mind after some reflection.  Weidman always knew he’d have to defeat Silva twice to prove it was no fluke the first time.

“He’s the greatest of all time.  People can’t fathom the fact that he lost.  I knew going into that fight we were going to have to have a rematch.  I was going to have to prove people wrong again,” said Weidman during a press conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Almost as fast as Silva’s body came crashing to the canvas following the left hand of Weidman in the second round of the UFC 162 main event, critics were saying Silva beat himself.  Doubters were voicing their opinions and the criticisms have served as motivation for Weidman.

“I have a lot of motivation just stemming from myself and family and other things like that, but definitely, it motivates me,” he said.  “I want to prove people wrong.  I like being the underdog.  I like having that feeling where people think you’re going to lose, and I’ll prove them wrong.”

The rematch is set for UFC 168 on Dec. 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.  And while Weidman wants to prove people wrong again, he knows he won’t ever be able to silence them all.

“Even after this next fight, when I win, there’s still going to be a lot of doubters out there.  No matter what, there’s always going to be excuses out there for why you got the W.  That’s just part of the sport,” said the champion.

well thats gonna be interesting

if silva will regain his composure we would see a good fight..

weidman must hold on to the belt while he can

train hard to keep it... 'cause if not silva might take it back

Michael Bisping Injured, Lyoto Machida Steps into UFC Fight Night 30 Against Mark Munoz

UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping is injured and out of his upcoming UFC Fight Night 30 bout with Mark Munoz. However, former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida has already agreed to take his place.

UFC officials announced the injury and change of opponent on Friday.

Details of Bisping’s injury were not revealed, but it is certainly a disappointing turn of circumstances for “The Count,” who fights out of Manchester, England, where UFC Fight Night 30 is slated to take place at the Phones 4u Arena on Oct. 26.

After Vitor Belfort knocked him out of the title picture in January, Bisping bounced back with a victory over Alan Belcher. Following that up with a win over Munoz would have planted him firmly in the title shot conversation.

Instead, Machida will get an opportunity to make an immediate splash in what will be his first fight in the middleweight division.

He had been slated to make his 185-pound debut against Tim Kennedy in the UFC Fight for the Troops 3 main event on Nov. 6 in Fort Campbell, Ky. Machida will instead be making the trip to the U.K. to fight for just the second time in his career.

For Munoz, it is a drastic change of opposition, as Machida brings a much more elusive style to the cage than Bisping. Plus, he only has four weeks to shift gears.

Kennedy is expected to remain on the UFC Fight for the Troops 3 fight card with UFC officials planning to announce a new opponent in the coming days.

This would be a great oppurtunity for Muñoz.
He's ground and pound game will be tested. Machida has very strong take down deffense, so challenge sa kanya to.. Lugi siya pag standing ang laban.I think machida has better striking offense than him.

About the reamatch,,? seryosohin lang ni Silva ang laban , I think he can get the belt back,,di talaga ako elibs kay Weidman,,hehe

naku poh Muñoz will be really tested here..

'cause machida is the kind of fighter that will give him a lot of problems

unless mark can take him down.. i dont see him winning here..

oh maybe from a controversial decision he might pull one

oo nga po never underestimate your opponent when you're inside the octagon/ring. and you are also right about the injuries the fighters receive in the ring, mma is a brutal sport mahirap pekein. mawawasak talaga ang mukha mo o mababalian ka ng buto at pwede ka din mamatay kung hindi mo kaya idefend ang sarili mo sa loob ng ring lol
