MANILA, Philippines — Google celebrates the 116th anniversary of Philippine independence with a special bayanihan-themed Google Doodle visible to users who log-in to the Google Philippines page.
The scene on this year's doodle depicts the Filipino tradition of working together to move houses hoisted on bamboo poles. While no longer commonly practiced, bayanihan is still symbolic of Filipinos' ability to come together to work towards a common goal.
Doodles have long been a part of Google's history. The first one appeared on the Google home page on July 4, 2000. More than 2,000 doodles have been published on the site since.
The Bayanihan doodle is the fifth Independence day art work to be featured on Google. Clicking on the doodle loads a search page for "Philippine Independence Day."
