great... now we get to see pluto in details... till now, there are a lot of persons not knowing that pluto has been reclassified from a planet to a planetoid... thanks for the share ts...

For sure mga science buffs at Astronomy geeks super excited na.

Nung bata ako hilig ko mga books about planets and during that time Planet pa category ng Pulto and sa mga books lahat ng Planets merong colored Photo kahit yung mga gas giants becausse of the Voyager probes. And yung Voyager 1 & 2 eh out of way.

Some astronomers considered Pluto as just an irrelevant fuzzy ball of light in the orbit of Kuiper's Belt and it was  demoted from being a planet to a 'dwarf planetoid...' But considering the number of moons with the ratio 0 for venus and mercury, 3 for Earth while Pluto has 5 moons... Then i think Pluto deserves to be included among the original 9 planets and not to be  considered as just  a ' dwarf planetoid'

Nice share of info Sir Jonel! Thanks for sharing....

@icE_boaT

Sana nga pwede, but i dont think so ... According to the studies, Since Pluto is too far from the sun it is a frozen and barren planet... Kung meron man siguro specie dun na magsurvive... Baka hindi naman magsurvive ang humans doon...but who knows, after sometime and more exploration.. May possibility yan naisip mo.;)

I guess the Scientific community are just fighting about semantics about what is the definition of a Planet.

According to them there is this criteria that must be met for a plannet to be considered a Planet.

1.Must be Orbiting a star
2. Has reach Hydrostatic equilibrium (ibigsabihin naging speherical shaped dahil nag collapse at namuo dahil sa sariling gravity
3.Has cleared the Neighborhood.

And since they consider Pluto as a a Dwarf Planet then by all means Planet pa din yan.

Like I said it could just be sematics now we have like 4 types of Planets.

1.Rocky Planets (Mercury,Venus,Earth and Mars.
2.Gas Giants ( Jupiter and Saturn ) (although Uranus and Neptune is also considered a gas giant because it is also compose of gases like Hydrogen there are more Ice particles in its athmosphere and probably has compact ice on the surface.

3.Ice Giants (Uranus Neptune)

4.Dwarf Ice Planets, (Pluto, Eris,Haumea,Makemake, Sedna )

More pictures are coming in from the  New Horizons probe. This time its Pluto's moon Charon.

From BBC,

It talks about the Moon of Pluto and how the great distance affects communication as it takes like 4hours for the signal to reach earth and can only send small data packets up to an average of one kilobit (125 bytes) per second.

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-33570131
Quote
On Thursday Nasa released another view of Charon, as a tease ahead of Friday's briefing.

This zoomed in on a rectangular area approximately 390km long.

The terrain has remarkably few craters, but what really catches the eye is a large mountain that sits in a depression - like a castle surrounded by a moat.

"This is a feature that has geologists stunned and stumped," said Jeff Moore, a Nasa scientist who leads New Horizons' geology, geophysics and imaging team.

The probe has so far sent back only a tiny amount of its stored flyby data.

The vast distance to Pluto (4.7 billion km) and the modest transmitter/antenna system (12W) onboard makes for very slow bit rates - an average of one kilobit (125 bytes) per second.

cool... pluto now up close and for everyone to see... compared with uranus and neptune, pluto doesn't seem like a gas planetoid...

Sa isang criteria lang naman sya nde qualified..upon it's discovery at kaya nga nadiscover it has been orbiting in the the milky way. .long before astronomers discovered other planetoids along the Kbelt.

...kahit naman halos singlaki sila ni Eris, it doesn't change the fact that Pluto manifests 2 qualities para maging isang Planeta. Masyado lang syang malayo from the other orbiting planets at napakalapit nya sa Kbelt wherein there are lots of smaller planetoids and asteroids..actually it was said that halos magsinglaki sila ni Eris. .

They were considered as twin planets. .but Eris has one small moon,Dysnomia while Pluto has 5 moons...though it was said one moon 'Charon' is half it's size.

It was said that there are three major planets that dominate our galaxy aside from the Sun of course namely Jupiter, Neptune and Earth. .but I noticed Sabi nga sa criteria dapat na clear ng isang planet ang orbit nya diba? Aside sa moons nya..pero ang Earth nung 2013 there were asteroids that entered it's orbit..and yung Neptune. . Though Pluto was considered inferior in majority of its aspects. , it was known for a fact that Pluto's orbit crosses Neptune's. .

.and for every three times Neptune goes around the Sun, Pluto goes twice, remarkably preventing any collision.

Confusing though. .if Pluto was demoted from being a planet into a dwarf planetoid just because it lacked one criteria. . ( clearing off other planetoids from it's orbit) then bakit ganun ..?

Have the Earth and Neptune totally cleared off it's orbit of other asteroids and planetoids such  as Pluto from entering it's orbit?

I guess not. And it was already a fact.

Thanks again for that info Sir Jonel!
