Anderson Silva reportedly wants rematch; Chris Weidman expected it all along

Everything leading up to UFC 162 and everything since has pointed to a rematch between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.

Before Saturday night’s fight in Las Vegas, UFC president Dana White promised that if Silva lost, which he did, that an immediate rematch would be in the offing.

Weidman said the same thing and reiterated that sentiment immediately following the fight.

“He’s unbeatable, the fricking Bruce Lee of mixed martial arts,” the new champion said after the fight. “I just have to say all respect to Anderson Silva. I’ll give him an immediate rematch if he wants to do it.”

Silva initially hesitated about a rematch, saying that it was now Weidman’s time as champion.

“Chris is the champion now. I finish my work. I no more fight for the belt.”

He backtracked on that statement at the post-fight press conference, saying he just needed some time to mull things over, which is understandable considering that he hadn’t lost in seven years and 17 fights. Getting knocked out and then immediately being asked what his future held was most certainly a discombobulating experience.

“He wants it. That’s right after his bell’s been rung, and I’m sure it was surreal for him,” Weidman said on Wednesday’s Jim Rome Show when asked about the possibility of a rematch. “He just lost for the first time in seven years, he got knocked out, and that’s something he has a lot of pride in is his stand-up and having a good chin.

“His mind wasn’t in the right place when he was doing the interview. We’re doing a rematch.”

An MMAFighting.com report citing sources close to Silva seems to back Weidman’s assurance that there would be a rematch coming down the pike. The report stated that Silva had already determined he does want the rematch and he wants it before the end of the year. He doesn’t want to wait for Super Bowl weekend, which White had initially speculated might be good timing for the two to lock horns again.

White then shifted gears and told the L.A. Times that he was considering the rematch for UFC 168 on Dec. 28, and pushing that event’s main event between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate back to Super Bowl weekend.

Silva’s camp, however, was unavailable for comment at the time of publication, but it wouldn’t be surprising that Silva – after having the longest championship reign in UFC middleweight history come to an end – would want to redeem himself as soon as possible.

well silva did disrespected his gifts, and weidman just got the best of him

mocking him at the fight is over the edge he got knocked out and he deserves it

and if silva wants a rematch well im sure he will get it thus

he's got his hands plenty on weidman, and if weidman can do it again then

its gonna be a new era

Silva deserves it,no excuses,,kaya nga sa interview niya ang weird ng mga sagot niya,,paulet ulet ung he tied his life ba un in fighting,,he still wants to fight but not for the belt? kahit nga si joe rogan sa mga comments niya after the fight talagang kulang na lang sabihin kay silva buti nga sau! hehe...MMA is  a sports so dapat as a champion you should act like a real sportsman,,ganyan din ang uagali nung sa PXC na si Ale CAli ba yun?
Maybe if he really learned his lesson he should go for Bones and maybe if he'll show how a great fighter he was kahit matalo man siya maybe he can win his fans back
Bad thing for weidman cause he won just by the carelessness of Silva,,di niya masyadong napakita yung galing niya,,

Kudos to mark Muñoz,,what a comeback!I saw his pics after that sorry loss to weidman,,he gained a lot of weight sa sobrang depression..buti nakabawi siya considering na di basta basta yung opponent niya and goosebumps talaga when he speaks in tagalog ,he really made us proud ! one more win for him then go for the belt!
Frankie Edgar still has it,,sana mabigyan ulet ng chance for a title shot,,for me fight of the night ung kay cub swanson and dennis siver
natuwa talaga ako sa pagtatagalog ni munoz at naglevel up ang respeto ko sa kanya.
Ewan ko ba pero mas bibilib ako kay edgar kung tinapos niya si oliviera gaya ng ginawa dito ni swanson.
Yeah swanson vs llamas mukhang astig.

well edgar's fight is a great one

nakita ulit yun never slowing pace niya one of his key on winning the fight

and he can stand there all night take a lot of shots and still pushing the pace

that's one thing that i admire on his fighting style

hihihi salamat poh

advertisement lang yan poh hihihi

well on rematch i would go for silva too if he doesn't do anything foolish

i think he can take the belt back again without any trouble

unless weidman drastically improves his stand up game

then silva would be in for a brawl

tama po at wag natin kalimutang magaling na wrestler si weidman, at isa yun sa kahinaan ni silva katulad nung laban niya kay sonnen, lutter at hendo. Sana maimprove ni silva takedown defense niya at maging mas delikado siya sa ground.

Former WEC light heavyweight champion and UFC middleweight contender Brian Stann has retired from mixed martial arts at 32 years of age.

Stann (12-6) made his professional mixed martial arts debut on Jan. 6, 2006, after a decorated career in the United States Armed Forces.  Born on Yokota Air Base in Tokyo, Japan, in 1980, Stann grew up in Scranton, Penn.  Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled in the United States Naval Academy and began his military career.

After graduation from the academy, he was assigned as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps.  As a Lieutenant, Stann was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, and commanded the 2nd Mobile Assault Platoon.  During Operation Matador, Stann’s unit was ambushed near Karabilah, Iraq.  Under his command, the unit held out for six days under heavy attack.  All 42 Marines survived the attack.  He was awarded the Silver Star, the nation’s third highest award for valor in combat, for his heroism.

Stann’s calm under duress served him well in the military and carried over to his fighting career.

He left active duty in 2008 with the rank of Captain.  He was the commanding officer in the 8th Marine Regiment Headquarters Company, while competing in the WEC.

Just prior to leaving active duty as a Marine, Stann defeated Doug Marshall by knockout on March 26, 2008, to capture the WEC light heavyweight title.

He was defeated in his next outing by Steve Cantwell in a rematch.

After starting his fighting career with six consecutive victories and winning the WEC title, the organization was folded over into the UFC after it was purchased by UFC parent company Zuffa LLC.

Coming off a loss to Cantwell, Stann was defeated in his UFC debut by Krzysztof Soszynski.  He avenged the previous loss to Cantwell in his next outing and put together back-to-back wins with a decision over Rodney Wallace.

At UFC 109, Stann would fight for the final time as a light heavyweight, losing to Phil Davis by decision, before dropping down to the middleweight division.

He won his first three fights in the 185-pound weight class with wins over Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago.  The win streak moved him into contender status.

In his next outing, Stann faced Chael Sonnen and was defeated in a one-sided fight.  He rebounded with a knockout of Alessio Sakara in April 2012.  At UFC 152, Stann was defeated in a closely contested bout with Michael Bisping.

He was then lined up against former Pride FC champion and MMA legend Wanderlei Silva.  The fight would end up being his last.

Stann was ahead on the scorecards and seemed to be in complete control of the fight until an exchange late in the second round.  Silva clipped him and finished the former WEC titleholder with strikes on the ground.

Stann may be be done fighting, but he’s a staple as a commentator and analyst on various UFC related programs on the Fox Networks.  On Wednesday, Fox announced that Stann would be part of its ACC football coverage on Fox Sports South.  He played middle linebacker while at the Naval Academy.

From military hero to mixed marital arts champion, Stann has left a lasting legacy for both the American people and fight fans.

Chael Sonnen says contract expired, offers list of demands for new UFC deal

We've heard this bit from Chael Sonnen (27-13-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC) before, but if the self-proclaimed "Gangster from West Linn, Oregon" is to be believed, he's waiting to sign a new contract before his headlining bout with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua – and he's apparently got a list of demands in hand.

"My contract with the UFC has expired," Sonnen said during fan-driven Q&A session at this past weekend's UFC Fan Expo. "So I went to Dana White, and I went to him with a list of my demands because he's getting my contract together. He thought this was a gag, but I was being serious because it's not all about money with me."

Sonnen, of course, remains one of the UFC's most outspoken characters. He frequently claimed in advance of his UFC July 2012 rematch with Anderson Silva that he hadn't signed a bout agreement, but the contest went on exactly as planned. As it stands now, Sonnen is scheduled to headline the UFC's Aug. 17 debut event on FOX Sports 1 against Rua.

But if you take Sonnen's word, there may be a few hurdles to clear before that contest takes place. Sonnen said he communicated his requests to UFC President White via text message, and they include some rather interesting ideas.

"It says, 'Dana, my manager said you guys talked and are getting a contract together for me,'" Sonnen explained. "'I think you should be aware of my demands. First, Jello Biafra replaces Bruce Buffer as ring announcer. Secondly, every fight I'm in must be a No. 1 contender fight or a title match. If I lose, I get an immediate rematch until I win. No media can look me in the eye, or they will be removed from the room.

"'No. 5: Headset legalized through the commission so I can call my own fights. No. 6: No longer will I walk to the ring. I need to be carried. No. 7: Keys to your least favorite Ferrari – I'm not asking too much. No. 8: I can Skype or FaceTime my fights if I feel like flying. No. 9 – and it's non-negotiable: tell 'GSP' to stop being such a dick. I'll return his truck when I'm done with it.'

"See, I'm not all about money, people. There's more to these contracts. They're very sophisticated."

Sonnen's tongue-in-cheek demands obviously drew laughs from the crowd, leaving the exact status of his contract with the UFC in the dark. However, Sonnen remains one of the sport's biggest draws, and his on-camera work outside of the cage is valued as much as his performances in it. In short, it wouldn't seem Sonnen is going to be a free agent anytime soon.

So does he actually need to sign a new deal? As with everything the 36-year-old claims, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

"First thing to remember is when you answer a question, you are not under oath," Sonnen said. "I don't answer questions. I handle questions. That's very important to know.

"Secondly, don't ever apologize for anything. You're a grown up. If it comes out of your mouth, stand by it."

"UFC on FOX Sports 1 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen" takes place Aug. 17 at Boston's TD Garden.

haha natawa lang ako dito, si shogun pala next fight ni sonnen

Dana White talking with Anderson Silva about a rematch with Chris Weidman, but no deal is done

UFC president Dana White said he was in Los Angeles on Friday, meeting with ex-middleweight champion Anderson Silva about the possibility of a rematch with new champion Chris Weidman.

But White vehemently denied a report in GQ Brazil (Editor's note: Story is in Portuguese) in which Silva was quoted as saying the rematch was made for Dec. 28 at UFC 168 in Las Vegas. Right now, a women's bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and archrival Miesha Tate headlines that card.

There has been much speculation about whether a rematch would be made, and Weidman, during a post-victory media tour earlier this week, told several outlets that a rematch was a done deal and would be held in either December or February.

Weidman won the title by knocking Silva out at UFC 162 at the MGM Grand Garden on July 6, handing the great Brazilian the first UFC loss of his career.

White told Yahoo! Sports via telephone earlier in the week that he felt the bout could draw a massive crowd to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, but said "This just feels like one of those huge Vegas fights to me." White has repeatedly said he thinks Silva-Weidman II will be the largest-grossing, best-selling pay-per-view card in UFC history.

"We are talking about a rematch and I am and have been confident I will get it done," White told Yahoo! Sports via text message. "It isn't done yet, though."

Silva said in the cage after the fight that he wasn't interested in fighting for a title again, and reiterated that stance at the post-fight news conference.

But he's apparently had a change of heart in the last several days and is at least open to the possibility of meeting Weidman a second time.

Silva was stopped at 1:18 of the second round when, after putting his hands at his side and taunting Weidman to hit him, he was clipped on the chin by a massive left hook and went down.

Ronda Rousey on Breasts in MMA: Gina Carano 'Had a Fantastic Rack'

Mixed martial arts: “Where cleavage is a hinderance.”

Elite female UFC fighters are serious, serious athletes. As such, they think about any and all possible advantages they can gain over their adversaries. According to Ronda Rousey, one of those advantages is having smaller breasts.

The topic of breasts and their impact on MMA was discussed in ESPN The Magazine's latest "Body Issue," which, among others, featured a photo spread of UFC fighter Miesha Tate. The issue featured an article by Amanda Hess titled, "You Can Only Hope to Contain Them," which focused on female fighters dealing with boob issues while fighting in the Octagon.

The piece features an interview with UFC women's bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey. As usual, Rousey was brutally honest, and her candidness did not fail to provide for highly quotable material.

Rousey told Hess that she’s had difficulties keeping her breasts under wraps while grappling with opponents in the past. One particular fight against Liz Carmouche was especially troublesome, and she worried constantly about having a wardrobe malfunction.

She also gave her observations on women who reach the pinnacle of athletics, saying that large breasts aren’t often a characteristic of elite female athletes.

"Gina Carano was an amazing fighter, and she had a fantastic rack," Rousey told Hess. "You don’t see big titties in the Olympics, and I think that’s for a reason."

Hess' article explains the difficulties fighters with larger breasts have versus those with less on their chest. For example, Hess cites that a fighter with a typical A-cup is carrying .43 pounds, while fighters with D-cups are carrying around four or more pounds of weight.

Between the weight, strain and possible wardrobe malfunction issues, it's hard to say Rousey isn't right.

With that being said, Gina Carano went 12-1-1 in her Muay Thai fighting career and 7-1 in MMA. So you can have an innate advantage at a sport, but your physical traits don’t necessarily dictate your level of success.
