Pistons rally for 115-107 win over Hawks

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Andre Drummond had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Kyle Singler made a pair of big 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to lead the Detroit Pistons over the Atlanta Hawks 115-107 on Friday night.

The injury-riddled Hawks lost their eighth straight game despite shooting 17 of 20 during a 41-point second quarter. Detroit rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit.

Atlanta was without guard Jeff Teague, who was out with a sprained ankle. Al Horford was lost for the season in December with a torn pectoral muscle.

Paul Millsap had 23 points for the Hawks.

Greg Monroe had 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Pistons, who stood pat at the trade deadline Thursday. Detroit is now 2 1/2 games behind Atlanta and Charlotte, who are tied for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Brandon Jennings played well in the third and finished with 12 points and 14 assists, although he didn't play at all in the fourth. Detroit went with Will Bynum instead, and he finished with nine points and seven assists.

Game notes

Atlanta shot 85 percent in the second quarter, one of the top marks for one quarter in the NBA this season. Denver shot 87 percent (13 for 15) in the fourth quarter at Toronto on Dec. 1, according to STATS. ... The Pistons outscored the Hawks 66-34 in the paint.

Magic rally to overcome Carmelo Anthony, Knicks in 2OT
Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Arron Afflalo had 32 points, rookie Victor Oladipo added 30 points and a career-high 14 assists, and the Orlando Magic rallied to beat the New York Knicks 129-121 in double overtime on Friday night.

The Magic trailed by as many as 14 points, but got 25 points and 10 assists from Oladipo after halftime to stave off the Knicks. Tobias Harris added 22 points.

Orlando snapped a three-game losing streak in its first game following the departure of Glen Davis, who had the remainder of his contract bought out earlier in the day.

Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 44 points, but only 14 came after the third quarter.

The Knicks' loss ended their eight-game game win streak over the Magic. New York has last four of its last five.

Game notes

The Magic improved to 1-4 in overtime games this season. ... J.R. Smith made his 12th start of the season in place of injured swingman Iman Shumpert, who is expected to miss about two weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee. ... Former Magic player Penny Hardaway was honored in a ceremony between the first and second quarters as part of the team's ongoing "Legends Nights" to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary season.

Ross leads Raptors past Cavs, 98-91
Associated Press

TORONTO -- A terrible third quarter in Toronto brought Cleveland's season-long winning streak to a sudden halt.

Terrence Ross scored 20 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 18 and the Raptors snapped the Cavaliers' six-game winning streak with a 98-91 victory on Friday night.

Valanciunas had 10 points in the game-changing third as Toronto took control, outscoring Cleveland 37-21.

"We came out very soft and stagnant," Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson said. "We didn't make it tough for them on the offensive end."

Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan each had 14 points as the Atlantic Division-leading Raptors won for the fourth time in five games.

Luol Deng had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Kyrie Irving scored 17 as the Cavaliers lost for the first time since Feb. 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Cleveland failed to record its first seven-game winning streak since LeBron James led the team to eight straight in 2010.

Playing in his hometown for the first time, Cleveland's Anthony Bennett scored nine points. Bennett was the top pick in last year's draft, becoming the first Canadian to be selected first overall.

Cleveland center Spencer Hawes, acquired in a trade with Philadelphia Wednesday, made his Cavaliers debut, scoring seven points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 26 minutes.

"He's pretty smart and he was picking it up as we were going along," Brown said.

"Valanciunas was the big difference in the second half," Brown said.
