Zach Randolph helps Grizzlies overcome Timberwolves
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Memphis Grizzlies are making a move in the Western Conference and are doing it on the road.

Zach Randolph had 26 points and 12 rebounds and Memphis overcame another strong effort by Kevin Love to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 94-90 Friday night.

Courtney Lee added 16 points for the Grizzlies, who have won five straight games and 10 of their last 11. Memphis has won six straight away from home, including a sweep of a three-game trip to Portland, Sacramento and Minnesota.

"It feels good, we are still getting to where we want to get," Randolph said.

One-half game behind Dallas for eighth place in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies are 13-7 on the road and 12-13 at home.

"This is huge for us, especially for the goals we have as far as making that playoff push," Lee said. "It definitely builds momentum."

The win could be costly because Memphis played the final 6:37 without starting guard Mike Conley, who sprained his right ankle when he landed on J.J. Barea's foot. Conley had 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting after scoring a combined 46 in his last two outings. He is to be re-evaluated Saturday.

Playing on a sore left ankle throughout the second half, Love led Minnesota with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Kevin Martin had 14 points for the Timberwolves, who lost for just the second time in seven games.

Game notes

Minnesota's 37 first-half points were a season low. ... Memphis F Mike Miller, who was questionable after spraining his right thumb Wednesday, finished with five points. ... Minnesota's Gorgui Dieng blocked Davis twice in a 58-second span early in second. ... Joerger grew up in Staples, Minn.

It's nice to see the match-up between Randolph and Love, two of the best power forwards in the NBA right now. One of the reason why Memphis won is because of Marc Gasol and one of the reason why Minnesota lose is because Pekovic didn't play.

Dirk Nowitzki's 34 help Mavericks send Kings to sixth straight loss

DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 34 points and the Dallas Mavericks held off Sacramento 107-103 Friday night, handing the Kings their sixth straight loss in another game without leading scorer DeMarcus Cousins.

A night after being named an All-Star for the 12th time, Nowitzki helped the Mavericks rally in the fourth quarter after they squandered a double-digit lead in the first half and fell behind by 14 in the third.

Brandan Wright had his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, including a floater in the lane that put the Mavericks ahead for good at 96-94.

Rudy Gay scored 35 to lead the Kings, who have the worst record in the Western Conference (15-31) and were without Cousins for the fifth straight game because of a sprained left ankle. He is likely to miss his sixth straight in San Antonio on Saturday night.

Looks like the Big German got his second wind in his long, illustrious career. This season he is averaging 21.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg while shooting 48% from the field. He's playing in an all-star level compared to the last 2 seasons.

Al Jefferson matches career best with 40 as Cats keep Lakers reeling

LOS ANGELES -- Al Jefferson tied a career high with 40 points, 16 of them in the fourth quarter, and grabbed 18 rebounds to help the Charlotte Bobcats send the floundering Los Angeles Lakers to their sixth straight defeat with a 110-100 victory Friday night.

Jefferson set a franchise record with his 11th straight game of 20 or more points, eclipsing the previous mark set by Jason Richardson in 2007-08.

Gerald Henderson added 20 points for the Bobcats. Starting point guard Kemba Walker missed his sixth straight game since a sprained left ankle ended his career-opening consecutive game streak of 190.

Pau Gasol had 24 points and Nick Young 21 off the bench for Los Angeles, which lost for the 18th time in 21 games.

Curry scores season-high 44, Warriors beat Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- Stephen Curry made eight 3-pointers in scoring a season-high 44 points, leading the Golden State Warriors past Utah 95-90 Friday on a night the Jazz honored former coach Jerry Sloan.

Curry had 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors came from nine points behind to win on back-to-back nights.

Andrew Bogut had 16 points, 17 rebounds and five assists to help overcome the loss of David Lee (shoulder, hip) and a horrendous shooting night from backcourt mate Klay Thompson, who was 3 of 20 for 11 points.

Reserve guard Alec Burks had with 26 points on a variety of jumpers and acrobatic drives but it wasn't enough for Utah, which dealt with injuries to three frontcourt players.
