Andre Miller suspended two games
DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets have suspended veteran guard Andre Miller two games for "conduct detrimental to the team."
One day after the first "Did not play -- coach's decision" of Andre Miller's 15-year career, the guard was suspended two games by the Nuggets.
Miller was upset after not playing in the Nuggets' 114-102 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. It was the first "Did not play -- coach's decision" of Miller's 15-year career.
With Miller averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists and mired in an eight-game slump, first-year coach Brian Shaw has vowed to shake things up to find the right combination of players on the court.
Miller's suspension begins with Friday's home game against the Memphis Grizzlies. He will not travel with the team for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO -- Iman Shumpert scored a career-high 27 points, Carmelo Anthony had 27 points and 12 rebounds in his return from injury and the New York Knicks surprised the San Antonio Spurs 105-101 on Thursday night.
Amare Stoudemire added 11 points and Beno Udrih and Andrea Bargnani added 10 each for New York (10-21), which snapped a three-game skid.
Marco Belinelli had a career-high 32 points, but missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute for San Antonio (25-8). Tony Parker had 12 points and Manu Ginoboli added 11 points and 12 assists.
The Spurs dropped to 12-5 at home this season. They had won three in a row overall.

Hayward, Favors lead Jazz over Bucks 96-87
Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY -- Gordon Hayward scored 22 points and Derrick Favors had 21 points and 11 rebounds to help the Utah Jazz hold off the Milwaukee Bucks 96-87 Thursday night and claim consecutive wins for just the third time this season.
Hayward, Utah's leading scorer, had failed to reach double-digits in the previous two games but was efficient from the start against the Bucks with 18 in the first half.
Favors took his turn as the center of the improving Jazz offense at crunch time with seven points in the final 2:02 to clinch the game.
The Jazz made all 17 free throw attempts and outrebounded the Bucks 43-34 in the matchup of teams with the worst records in each conference.
Larry Sanders went 7 of 7 on field goals to lead Milwaukee with 16 points, while Luke Ridnour had 12 points and Gary Neal finished with 11.
Diante Garrett, who joined the Jazz in mid-November, seemed to be auditioning to keep his job. The point guard played 20 minutes -- the most in a competitive contest since his initial game with the Jazz -- and scored 10 points, a career high. All contracts become guaranteed for the rest of the year on Jan. 10.
Game notes
The Bucks had 17 fast-break points, including eight in the fourth quarter, to Utah's nine . The Jazz improved to 10-7 with a starting lineup of Burke, Hayward, Richard Jefferson, Williams and Favors. . Favors has 11 double-doubles (points-rebounds) this season.

Stephen Curry leads Warriors by Heat for 7th win in row
Associated Press
MIAMI -- Game-high in points. Game-high in assists. Game-high in steals. Oh, and for good measure, he made as many 3-pointers as the entire Miami Heat roster.
Stephen Curry had another night to remember.
And the Golden State Warriors continued their surge.
Curry finished with 36 points, 12 assists, four steals and made eight 3-pointers, David Lee finished with 32 points and 14 rebounds, and the Warriors ran past the Heat 123-114 Thursday night to extend the NBA's longest current winning streak to seven games.
"Curry was spectacular," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "If he doesn't make the All-Star team, I might retire."
If the Heat had a vote, Jackson's job would be safe.
"One of the best shooters this NBA will see," Heat star LeBron James said. "I mean, if you can find a better shooter than him right now, especially with the way he handles the ball -- and the light that he has, it's more than green, it's fluorescent -- you just hope that he misses."
He did miss a few. Just not very many.
Curry was 13 for 22 from the floor, 8 of 15 from beyond the arc. Lee made 13 of 17 shots. The Warriors made 15 3-pointers; the Heat managed only eight.
"It's a good experience against a championship-caliber team," Curry said. "They know how to get it done so to come in here and play the way we did, it shows we're on the right path."
Klay Thompson scored 16 points and Harrison Barnes added 15 for the Warriors.
James scored 26 points and Dwyane Wade added 22 for the Heat, who had all five starters in double figures. Chris Bosh scored 19, Mario Chalmers had 17 and Shane Battier added 11 for Miami.
But the Heat allowed Golden State to shoot 56 percent, plus finish with a 40-31 rebounding edge.
Stephen Curry made 8 3-pointers Thursday night against the Heat, tying the most by a player vs Miami all time. Here's a look:
Year Player 3s-Att.
2014 Stephen Curry 8-15
2013 Marcus Thornton 8-12
2011 J.R. Smith 8-14
2009 Ben Gordon 8-11
2008 J.R. Smith 8-14
2007 Jamal Crawford 8-10
1994 Rex Chapman 8-14
-- Elias Sports Bureau
"They played a heck of a ball game," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "They deserved to win this one."
About the only blip for the Warriors were turnovers. They had 20, which Miami turned into 32 points. Without those, this might have been a lot worse.
"More than anything it keeps the ball rolling," Lee said after matching his season-high for scoring. "Anytime you play the champions like this it's a measuring point. Tonight was no exception."
Game notes
Golden State's 123 points were the most allowed by the Heat at home in a non-overtime game since James, Wade and Bosh became teammates. ... Attendance was 20,350, tying the largest home regular-season crowd for the Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. ... The only others with at least 35 points and 12 assists against Miami in a game: Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson, according to STATS.

Curry and Lee should be included in this year All-Star as West back-ups. They are playing at an all-star pace and the Warriors are rolling.

Sixers beat Kings 113-104 for 3rd straight victory
Associated Press
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- For nearly two months, the Philadelphia 76ers couldn't win a road game. Lately, they can't lose.
Thaddeus Young scored 28 points, Evan Turner had 24 and the 76ers defeated the Sacramento Kings 113-104 on Thursday night for their third straight victory.
The suddenly surging 76ers took the lead early in the second quarter and never trailed again in winning their third consecutive road game after losing the previous 13. Prior to the winning streak, Philadelphia's last road win was Nov. 1 against Washington.
"We were talking and we don't know when was the last time we've done that," Spencer Hawes said. "Coming out west, it's something that's very hard to do."
With the 76ers coming off an impressive victory Wednesday night in Denver, it might have seemed more likely the rested Kings would have more energy.
Yet it was the young 76ers displaying more effort, forcing the sloppy Kings into 23 turnovers that led to 27 Philadelphia points.
The 76ers had seven players in double figures against Denver and five one night later. In a foul-plagued game, the bench contributed 41 points.
Young had a big game at both ends of the court. He made a career-high six steals, including five in the first half, to tie the arena record. He shot 9 of 16 and had seven rebounds, four assists and zero turnovers.
"Thaddeus is playing with a high level of confidence, supported by his skill set," 76ers coach Brett Brown said. "He's playing with both energy and explosiveness."
Turner also enjoyed a strong overall game. He hit 11 of 22 shots and added 10 rebounds and six assists. Reserve guard Tony Wroten scored 21 points for Philadelphia, which ends its six-game road trip Saturday in Portland. Lavoy Allen and Hawes added 10 points apiece.
DeMarcus Cousins scored 22 of his 33 points in the opening half for the Kings, who lost their sixth home game in a row to the 76ers.
Isaiah Thomas had 23 points and seven assists, and Rudy Gay scored 18 for the Kings. Jimmer Fredette had 12 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Derrick Williams scored 11.
Fredette started the fourth quarter and scored 10 points in just under 4 minutes, rallying the Kings to 98-93. But the 76ers countered with nine straight points to increase their lead to 14 at the 3:56 mark, and Sacramento never threatened again.
"It's a setback, but we've just got to keep moving forward," Fredette said. "We still have four home games on this homestand. We just need to come out to play and try to get the next one. It's disappointing. We have to play better, and we need more energy."
Game notes
Thomas connected on a 3 early in the first quarter and has made one in 25 straight games. ... Hawes, who played his first three seasons with the Kings, was booed all game. Last season when the city was trying to keep the team in Sacramento, Hawes publicly stated he wanted the Seattle group to buy the Kings and move them. Hawes, who fouled out, grew up a Seattle SuperSonics fan.

Blazers tie franchise mark with 21 3s in 30-point rout of Bobcats
Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Trail Blazers made their first seven 3-pointers against Charlotte and from there it almost seemed too easy.
"Making shots is contagious," said Wesley Matthews, who had 25 points, including five of Portland's 21 3-pointers, in a 134-104 rout of the Bobcats on Thursday night.
The 21 3-pointers matched a franchise high, set in a 139-105 victory at the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 14, and made Portland the first NBA team to have two games in one season with at least 20 3-pointers.
Damian Lillard 24 points, making all six of his 3-point tries, and the Blazers finished by making 63.6 percent of their 33 attempts. The NBA record for 3-pointers in a single game is 23.
"It was a lot of fun," said Lillard, who has made at least four 3-pointers in four straight games. "Shots were falling."
With the win, Portland upped its record to 26-7 and moved back into the top spot in the Western Conference.
It was the season-high fifth-straight loss for the Bobcats, who were coming off a 112-85 loss to the Clippers the night before. Charlotte has lost six straight in Portland.
Chris Douglas-Roberts came off the bench to lead the Bobcats with a season-high 20 points. Al Jefferson added 19.
The 21 3s were the most the Bobcats had ever allowed in franchise history.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 10 points and 15 rebounds for his team-leading 19th double-double of the season. Blazers coach Terry Stotts sat his starters early in the fourth quarter.
"I knew about our record, I knew about the NBA record. But I didn't want to get caught up in that," Stotts said. "If we fell into it, then that's great, but I thought the guys who played in the fourth quarter played the game the right way. They were aggressive, they moved the ball. Defensively, they played hard. I think it's bad karma to go out and try to do that."
Game notes
The Blazers have assigned guard C.J. McCollum to the Idaho Stampede, the Trail Blazers' NBA D-League affiliate. McCollum, the 10th overall pick in last year's NBA draft out of Lehigh, has been sidelined since fracturing his foot in training camp. ... Portland's 39 points in the first quarter matched their season high for this season. ... The Blazers have made at least eight 3-pointers in eight consecutive games for the first time in franchise history.

TS (toni storks) note:
It's raining threes in the Rose City. It's almost midway thru the season, but still the surprising Trailblazers are either at the top or second best in the very tough Western Conference.

Bayless spurs Grizzlies to 99-91 win over Suns
PHOENIX -- Some Suns fans made the mistake of disrespecting Jerryd Bayless' Phoenix roots.
He made regret their words.
The Memphis guard came off the bench to score 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Grizzlies to a 99-91 win over Phoenix on Thursday night. The Grizzlies overcame 33 points from Suns guard Goran Dragic to improve to 14-17.
Bayless was born and raised in Phoenix, played high school ball just north of the US Airways Center and played in college at Arizona. He helped the Grizzlies recover from the Suns' 18-0 third-quarter run, giving Memphis a 94-84 lead on a 3-pointer with 4:30 to play.
"Well, some guys on the sidelines said that I disgraced St. Mary's (high school)," Bayless said. "That kind of hurt my feelings and that got me going a little bit."
Zach Randolph had 20 points and 15 rebounds in helping the Grizzlies cool the Suns for a night, the second win for the visitors in two meetings between the teams this season. Ed Davis added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Dragic scored 15 of his points during the Suns' big third quarter. Dragic added seven assists and finished with a career high in points on the night the Suns gave away thousands of bobbleheads bearing his likeness.
The Suns (19-12) couldn't fight off the Grizzlies, who scored seven straight points to regain the lead after trailing by four to start the final quarter. Bayless fueled the run with a 3-pointer and jumper to give the Grizzlies an 80-75 lead with 9:31 left to play.
"It was their bench that killed us again," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "These guys, if they don't think that Ed Davis and Bayless are good players, they're crazy."
The Grizzlies outrebounded the Suns 59-40 and were more physical throughout the game.
Channing Frye scored eight of his 14 points in the game in the third quarter.
Game notes
Suns guard Eric Bledsoe was a late scratch from the starting lineup due to a right knee sprain, and didn't play. Gerald Green started at the two-guard in Bledsoe's place. Hornacek said Bledsoe, who was injured during the Suns' game against the Clippers on Monday, is questionable for the Suns game Sunday against Milwaukee. .
Hornacek was named the NBA's Western Conference Coach of the Month for December. He led Phoenix to a 10-3 record during the month. Hornacek is the third person in NBA history to win both Coach of the Month and Player of the Month, and the first to do so with the same franchise.

TS (toni storks) view:
Utah Jazz loss is Phoenix Suns gain. Way to go Coach Hornacek. His Phoenix Suns is the 2nd most surprising team in the NBA this season (Portland is 1st).

Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer lead Bulls past Celtics
Associated Press
CHICAGO -- Joakim Noah fell one assist short of his fourth career triple-double Thursday night, and the 6-foot-11 center sounded almost embarrassed by his pursuit of that feat late in a rare comfortable home win by the Chicago Bulls.
"It's not really good to play basketball that way," Noah said. "Focusing on your stats is not that cool, but I tried to get it."
Following the Bulls' 94-82 victory over the Boston Celtics, no one else in either locker room was about to criticize the focus on statistics at the end because Noah's playmaking ability was the main reason Chicago had a sizeable lead down the stretch in snapping a two-game home losing streak.
He finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists to lead six Bulls scorers in double figures.
"Noah is an all-around winning guy," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. "I coached against Noah as an assistant in college in the Sweet 16. He's a guy who makes his teammates better in all the different ways. He even made the plays that will never get on the stat sheet -- pulling over and helping, being long and forcing us to make another pass or forcing us to miss a shot.
"All those things add up at the end of the game."
They just didn't add up to 10 assists.
Carlos Boozer had 16 points, Luol Deng 14, Taj Gibson 12, Mike Dunleavy 11 and Jimmy Butler 10 as the balanced Bulls bounced back from a loss to Toronto on Tuesday in the opener of their four-game homestand.
Jordan Crawford led the Celtics, who have lost two straight, with 22 points.
Noah had nine assists early in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get another. Butler missed a jumper with 8 seconds left in a last-second gasp.
"We really wanted him to get the triple-double," Gibson said. "I told him if I was in the game, I would have gotten it for him."
Chicago moved ahead of the Celtics for eighth place in the Eastern Conference despite being five games under .500.

TS (toni storks) view:
Chicago Bulls starting 5 Noah is the epitome of basketball 'point center' with the way he assisted to teammates better than the Bulls regular point guards.

Kevin Durant scores 23 in 4th quarter to lead Thunder over Wolves
Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic and the Minnesota Timberwolves were ganging up on Kevin Durant, and a rare three-game losing streak for the Oklahoma City Thunder was just over the horizon.
Durant's sidekick was on the bench in street clothes, leaving him on an island again. Frustrated from a poor start, Durant came out swinging in the fourth quarter and knocked the Timberwolves out with a fury.
Barking at and mean-mugging the feisty Wolves, Durant scored 23 of his season-high 48 points in the fourth quarter and hit the winner with 4 seconds to play to rally the Thunder from 13 points down to a 115-111 victory on Saturday night.
"I just hear a lot of stuff and I just wanted to come through for my team in the fourth quarter," Durant said, an apparent shot at some trash talk he heard from the Wolves' bench.
Durant went 7 for 11 from the field and hit four 3-pointers in the final quarter to help the Thunder rebound from two straight losses at home.
Love played the entire second half and finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for the Wolves. But he missed four free throws in the final 27 seconds to let this one slip away. The last three came when he was fouled on a 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds to go and the Wolves down two.
After Durant hit a step-back jumper from 18 feet right over Dante Cunningham's outstretched arm to give the Thunder a 113-111 lead, Love was fouled on a 3-pointer by Kendrick Perkins. Perhaps a little gassed from the work load, Love missed the first two free throws and his on-purpose miss on the third one didn't hit the rim, giving Oklahoma City the ball.
"I was more upset about the first one I missed," Love said. "I left it short. I think they were flat and short. There was no real air under them. Just missed them."
Durant knocked down two more free throws, and the two stars embraced after the final horn, a thrilling duel just finished.
Derek Fisher scored 13 points, and Ibaka had 12 points for Oklahoma City, which outscored Minnesota's bench 40-5.
Pekovic had 31 points and 11 rebounds, and Ricky Rubio had 13 points, 10 assists and five steals, but missed six of his final seven shots.
"I'll take K-Love in that situation no matter what," Wolves forward Corey Brewer said. "He missed them tonight. Next time he'll make them."

Thaddeus Young scores season-high-tying 30 as Sixers beat Blazers
Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Last month when the 76ers hosted the Trail Blazers, they were embarrassed by a barrage of 3-pointers. Since then, Philadelphia has made some defensive adjustments.
It showed on Saturday night when the Sixers paid back the Blazers in Portland by beating them 101-99. It was Philadelphia's fourth straight win to conclude a six-game road trip.
"I give the guys so much credit for fixing the things that were so poor when we played them the last time," coach Brett Brown said.
Thaddeus Young matched his season high with 30 points and the 76ers (12-21) displayed vastly improved defense in holding off a furious late rally by the Blazers (26-7).
Evan Turner added 23 points and rookie star Michael Carter-Williams had 16, but fell hard on the court at the final buzzer when he was trying to keep Damian Lillard from scoring the game-tying basket.
Carter-Williams appeared to hit his head and stayed down for several moments while his teammates held off their celebration. When he finally rose, he held his hand to his head.
Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge had 29 points and 14 rebounds for his 20th double-double this season. Robin Lopez added 14 points and 15 rebounds in just the Blazers' fourth loss at home this season.
On Dec. 14 when the Blazers visited Philadelphia they drained a franchise-best 21 3-pointers en route to a 139-105 victory. Carter-Williams did not play in that game because of a skin infection on his right knee.
Portland matched the franchise record on Thursday, when they had 21 3s in a 134-104 rout over the Charlotte Bobcats. It was the first time a team has had at least 20 3-pointers in two games in a single season. The NBA record for 3-pointers in a single game is 23.
It appeared that this game could be similar 3-point clinic. The Blazers ranked atop the league with 349 3s this season and a 40.5 3-point percentage.
But Portland made just three of 22 3-point attempts.
"When I heard they hit like 21 the other night, you think of the law of averages. Sometimes the basketball god says `Tonight's not your night from the 3-point line," said Turner.
Game notes
With his first six points, Aldridge became the fourth-leading scorer in Trail Blazers history, passing Jerome Kersey (10,067). ... Portland's Nicolas Batum has had at least seven rebounds and seven assists eight times this year, second only to LeBron James with 11.

TS view:
So true, the law of averages caught up on the red-hot Trailblazers. And what a revenge for the unpredictable Sixers.

Tiago Splitter's season-high 22 leads Spurs in rout of Clippers
Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO -- Tiago Splitter and the Spurs got out to a fast start, then hung on for a bumpier second half against the disorganized Los Angeles Clippers.
Splitter had a season-high 22 points before he was hurt, Tim Duncan added 19 points and 11 rebounds, and San Antonio beat Los Angeles 116-92 Saturday night in their first game without injured All-Star Chris Paul.
Tony Parker had 17 points, Manu Ginobili added 15 points and Kawhi Leonard had 10 points for San Antonio (26-8).
Splitter left with 9:37 remaining, injuring his right shoulder after charging into Ryan Hollins' chest.
Jamal Crawford scored 24 points, Blake Griffin had 19 points and Darren Collison added 14 points and six assists starting in place of Paul, who separated his right shoulder Friday night against the Dallas Mavericks.
Los Angeles gave up 70 points in the first half for the second consecutive night, but rallying proved tougher to do against a 35-point lead than the three-point deficit they faced against Dallas.
Game notes
Spurs F Boris Diaw missed the game with an undisclosed illness. ... The Clippers' Stephen Jackson received a mixed reaction upon entering the game in the final 2 minutes. Jackson was waived late last season after reportedly butting heads with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. ... The Spurs' public address announcer mistakenly screamed "Manu Ginobili" in the opening minute of game, crediting him with an assist on Splitter's basket even though the guard had yet to enter. The assist actually belonged to Marco Belinelli, Ginobili's friend and former Euroleague teammate. ... When the shot clock reset incorrectly late in the third quarter, Rivers asked if they could start over. After official Monty McCutchen said they would reset it, Rivers said, "No, can we start the game over?"

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired All-Star forward Luol Deng from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for center Andrew Bynum, three future draft picks and the right to swap 2015 first round picks with the Cavs (1-14 protected), Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced tonight from Cleveland Clinic Courts.
"We are very excited for Luol to join the Cavaliers organization, " said Grant. "We have worked to acquire and maintain flexibility in order to capitalize on opportunities such as this. Luol reflects all that we are striving for in building our team. He’s a tremendous defensive player that can impact the game on both ends of the court with a team first mentality and is a high character leader.”
In exchange for Deng, the Cavs send Chicago Bynum, Cleveland’s right to the Sacramento King’s first round draft pick conveyed in a June 30, 2011 deal, the right for Chicago to swap its own 2015 first round draft pick with the Cavs own 2015 first round draft pick (only in the case that the Cleveland 2015 first round draft pick is between 15 and 30) and the Portland Trail Blazer’s 2015 and 2016 second round draft picks acquired from the Trail Blazers via 2013 draft night trade.
Deng has been an NBA All-Star in each of the past two seasons (2012 and 2013) and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2012. He also received the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and All-Rookie First Team honors in 2005.
This season, Deng appeared in 23 games (all starts) for Chicago, averaging a career-best 19.0 points on .452 shooting, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steal in 37.4 minutes per game. The 6-9, 220-pound forward has scored at least 20 points 10 times this season, including a stretch of six straight 20-point games from Nov. 24 to Dec. 5.
Deng was originally drafted by Phoenix in the 2004 NBA Draft as the No. 7 overall selection. He has spent his entire nine-year career with the Bulls and owns career averages of 16.1 points on .460 shooting, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal in 35.9 minutes over 637 games (591 starts). He has also played in 48 playoff games (42 starts) with averages of 16.7 points on .452 shooting, 7.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 40.3 minutes per game.

What is it with the Toronto Raptors that they don't make it in any of the updates here? I guess it's not a popular team sa Pilipinas. I don't blame you. It's not even broadcasted sa US prime networks where Philippines get their programs.
But I'm telling you, they're playing good team basketball hindi gaya ng iba na centered around individual plays. Walang superstar sa Raptors kaya walang ego.
