Walker and Bobcats hold off Knicks
AP - Sports
NEW YORK (AP) -- Kemba Walker scored 25 point, Gerald Henderson added 18 and the Charlotte Bobcats held off a late run by New York to beat the Knicks 102-97 on Tuesday night.
Charlotte led by 13 in the third quarter before New York cut it to two points late in the game. Henderson hit two free throws with 13 seconds left and Walker one seven seconds later to seal the victory.
Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points to lead the Knicks, but was 10 for 28 from the field.. His back-to-back baskets late in the fourth quarter twice brought the Knicks within two, but every attempt that the Knicks had to take the lead faile
New York lost starting center Tyson Chandler midway through the first quarter with a right knee injury.

TS (toni storks) view:
Coach Woodson should give Bargnani a chance. Give him more playing time so he can fully adjust to Knicks system. He is a 7 footer and can block shots eventhough his not a good defender and rebounder. He shall give Knicks a double-barrel offensive threat alongside Carmelo Anthony while Chandler & Shumpert shall take care the defensive end.

Pacers still unbeaten after beating Pistons 99-91
AP - Sports
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Indiana Pacers lost six of their first nine games last season - and they seem intent on making up for that in 2013.
''We just want play well and get out of the gates,'' center Roy Hibbert said. ''We're an experienced team and we know every win's important.''
Paul George scored 31 points, and the Pacers remained the NBA's only unbeaten team with a 99-91 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.
Indiana matched its best start in franchise history. The Pacers are 4-0 for the first time since the 2004-05 season.
Indiana blew a 15-point lead in the first half but took control again with a strong third quarter. C.J. Watson had 15 points and David West finished with 12 for the Pacers. Hibbert had eight points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.
Indiana will try to extend its unbeaten run Wednesday night against Chicago.
''It would be a big win, a huge confidence booster,'' George said. ''But it's no statement. The season's still early.''
Brandon Jennings scored 17 points for the Pistons, who were done in by their 5-for-25 shooting from 3-point range.
The Pacers have won six straight over the Pistons, and the previous three wins had been lopsided, by 19, 32 and 18 points.
The Pacers were without George Hill (sore left hip) for a second straight game, and Danny Granger is still out with a strained left calf, but they haven't allowed an opponent to shoot better than 40 percent from the field. Detroit finished at 38 percent and could not overcome its poor showing from the perimeter.
NOTES: Indiana also started 4-0 in 1989-90, according to STATS. ... Detroit's starting backcourt of Jennings and Chauncey Billups went 8 for 25, including 1 of 9 from 3-point range.

Bledsoe and Green lead Suns over Pelicans
AP - Sports
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Gerald Green couldn't miss. Then again, neither did many of his teammates.
Eric Bledsoe had 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, Green tied a career high with six 3-pointers and the Phoenix Suns rallied to beat the New Orleans Pelicans 104-98 on Tuesday night.
Trailing 60-50, the Suns scored 28 points in the last 6:23 of the third quarter to go ahead 78-69 and led the rest of the way. During that torrid stretch, they hit 12 of 13 shots and six 3-pointers in a row, including three from Green.
''The third quarter was a prime example of when we move the ball and play as a team, we can really heat things up,'' Green said. ''When the Dallas Mavericks won the championship, they didn't win it off isolations. They won it off ball movement and knocking down 3s.''
The Suns were expected to be much closer to the top pick in the 2014 draft lottery than a championship when the season began. Their 3-1 start already qualifies as a surprise after they finished with the worst record in the Western Conference (25-57) a year ago.
Green scored 18, Markieff Morris had 17 points and twin brother Marcus Morris added 16 points for the Suns.
Eric Gordon led New Orleans with 20 points but had only six in the second half. Anthony Davis had a quiet first half before finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Jrue Holiday had nine assists but only three points on 1 of 7 shooting.
Phoenix played without guard Goran Dragic, who sprained his left ankle in the second quarter against Oklahoma City on Sunday and is listed as day-to-day.
Notes: The Pelicans, who entered as the NBA's best 3-point shooting team at 50 percent (18 of 36), raised that percentage by hitting 10 of 18 even though leading 3-point shooter Ryan Anderson has not played this season with a chipped bone on second right toe. ... The Suns won despite having only four second-chance points.

TS (toni storks) view:
The Suns is one of the surprising teams after a week of NBA ball. Along with the Sixers, they are rated at the bottom of the rankings before the season starts, but they are proving the experts wrong. But it's too early, the season is too young to predict if this Suns are for real or bust.

Blake's shot with 1.3 seconds left lifts Lakers
AP - Sports
HOUSTON (AP) -- Los Angeles coach Mike D'Antoni paid a lot of attention to former Lakers center Dwight Howard down the stretch.
He needed to get the ball out of the hands of Houston Rockets guard James Harden and figured the best way to do that was with the ''Hack-a-Howard'' defense.
The strategy worked perfectly with Howard missing seven late free throws to allow the Lakers to keep it close before Steve Blake hit a wide-open 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining to lift them to a 99-98 victory Thursday night.
''I think it went real well because we took Harden out of the game,'' D'Antoni said.
Howard spurned the Lakers to sign an $88 million deal with Houston, joining Harden and a team that made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2009.
A somber Howard called his free throw shooting ''terrible,'' but wouldn't concede that this loss was more difficult because it was against his former team.
''Every loss hurts,'' said Howard, who had 15 points and 14 rebounds. ''Nobody likes to lose. It's very upsetting that we lost the way we did.''
D'Antoni's decision to foul Howard was surprising because last season he said that the hack-a-whoever defense was bad for the game.
''That doesn't mean you're not going to use it, if it's out there,'' he said. ''I'm not crazy.''
Houston led by two points before Blake took the inbounds pass from Jodie Meeks and made the game-winning shot.
The Rockets were disappointed they let Blake get free for the winning basket.
''Guys just kind of messed up on the play,'' Howard said. ''It happens.''
The Rockets had a chance to win it, but Patrick Beverley's 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the backboard.
''I was in a rhythm and then they started fouling Dwight,'' said Harden, who scored 35 points. ''It kind of slows us down. It slows our pace down and what we like to do. Good coaching.''
The Lakers struggled all last season amid reports that Howard and Kobe Bryant didn't get along, and were swept in the first round of the playoffs. Los Angeles could have offered him a 5-year contract worth $118 million, but he chose to make the move to Houston with a four-year deal.
''He made his choice, which is good,'' D'Antoni said of Howard. ''You've got to respect that. He's fine and they're going to have a great team. You're just happy for everybody because we won.''

Lawson's 23 leads Nuggets past Hawks, 109-107
AP - Sports
DENVER (AP) -- Brian Shaw had to sweat out his first win as an NBA coach right to the final horn. When it was finally over, relief trumped joy.
Ty Lawson had 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds and the Denver Nuggets held on to beat the Atlanta Hawks 109-107 on Thursday night for Shaw's first victory.
''I feel relieved to finally get it,'' he said. ''It wasn't easy.''
Nate Robinson added 15 points and JaVale McGee had 14 for Denver (1-3), which rallied from eight points down in the fourth quarter before surviving a late Atlanta rally.
The win leaves Utah (0-5) as the NBA's only winless team.
Paul Millsap scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Hawks but missed a short jumper that would have tied the game with 1.9 seconds left. Al Horford, who had 21 points, grabbed the rebound but his shot was off as time expired.
When Horford's shot skimmed off the rim, the Nuggets could finally relax.
NOTES: Hawks G Dennis Schroder served his one-game suspension Thursday. Schroder was suspended by the league for striking Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins in the groin during Atlanta's win over the Kings on Tuesday. ... Nuggets F Wilson Chandler (strained left hamstring) has started basketball activities but there is no timetable for his return. ... Korver has made at least one 3-pointer in 78 straight games. It's the longest active streak in the NBA and tied for third-longest in league history.

Wade lifts Heat over Clippers, 102-97
AP - Sports
MIAMI (AP) -- Dwyane Wade had everything going. Jump shots, drives to the rim, passes out of the post.
He was vintage, on a night when the Miami Heat needed him to be that way.
Wade scored 11 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter, an ailing LeBron James added 18, and the Heat got enough stops down the stretch to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 102-97 on Thursday night for their third straight win.
Wade made 13 of 22 shots, added a team-best seven assists, and fueled the fourth-quarter burst that allowed the Heat to build enough of a cushion to hold off the Clippers in the final minutes.
''Everyone said he was done,'' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ''Go figure.''
Including playoffs, the Heat (4-2) have won 51 of their last 57 games when Wade scores at least 20 points, going back to June 2012. It's also the first time since last March that Wade has scored at least 20 points in four consecutive games, this streak immediately following him sitting out the second game of the season for rest.
''I know I can play basketball,'' Wade said. ''I know when I'm healthy what I can do.''
Wade either scored or assisted on Miami's first six field goals of the fourth quarter, including a three-point play while getting fouled on a jumper by J.J. Redick. About a minute later, Wade set up Shane Battier for a 3-pointer that put Miami up 91-80, and the 2006 NBA Finals MVP punctuated it all with a fist pump.
Blake Griffin had 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Clippers (3-3). His dunk with 31 seconds left got the Clippers within four, but Griffin allowed about 15 seconds to run off the clock without fouling James on the ensuing possession.
Redick scored 15 points, Jamal Crawford added 14, Chris Paul finished with 11 points and 12 assists, and DeAndre Jordan had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Clippers, who led for most of the first half.
Chris Bosh, playing for the first time since his wife delivered a baby earlier this week, finished with 12 points for Miami as did Ray Allen and Chris Andersen had 10. The Heat extended their club record by scoring at least 100 points in a sixth consecutive game to start the season.
NOTES: The Heat, who have honored returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan for several seasons, had seven Vietnam veterans on the court for a pregame ceremony. Paul was among the players who greeted them pregame, telling each of them, ''I appreciate you.'' The teams wore specially designed shooting shirts adorned in red, white and blue. ... Spoelstra coached his 400th regular-season game for the Heat. ... Clippers F Matt Barnes remained sidelined with what the team is calling a bruised right thigh. Rivers said he doesn't expect Barnes to be ready to play Saturday at Houston.

Knicks' Chandler to miss 4-6 weeks with broken leg
AP - Sports
NEW YORK (AP) -- Knicks center Tyson Chandler is expected to miss 4-6 weeks because of a broken bone in his right leg.
The team said Wednesday that tests showed no ligament or nerve damage and surgery is not required. Chandler left in the first quarter of a 102-97 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday.
He has a small fracture in the fibula in his lower leg.
New York is off to a 1-3 start after winning its first Atlantic Division title since 1994 last season. The Knicks will miss his defense and rebounding as they try to keep pace in the deep Eastern Conference.

TS (toni storks) view:
Pilay ang Knicks sa pagka-injured ng defensive achor nila. Matagal ang 4-6 months. Bargnani & Amare (both their defense are suspect) must step up defensively. Blocking enemy shots should help. Kenyon Martin is too small to play center and he's foul-prone & injury prone too.

George leads Pacers to 91-84 win over Raptors
AP - Sports
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- For a half, Rudy Gay dominated Paul George. The way George had started the season, Gay knew better than to think it would last.
George scored 17 of his 23 points in the third quarter and the Indiana Pacers beat the Toronto Raptors 91-84 Friday night to improve to 6-0 and match the best start in franchise history. George, who entered the day fourth in the league in scoring at 25.8 points per game, is a big reason.
''He's Paul,'' Gay said. ''Paul George is a great defender. He's not just going to sit down and let people score on him. Everybody on our team expected him to warm up.''
Gay scored a season-high 30 points on 12-of-26 shooting for the Raptors, but was held to 3-of-13 shooting after halftime. George bounced back from a five-point, 2-of-10 first half to completely change the tenor of the small forward matchup on both ends of the floor. Gay's 22 points had carried Toronto to a 46-44 lead at intermission.
Toronto lost its third straight to fall to 2-4. Amir Johnson added 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Raptors shot 39.5 percent from the field, becoming the sixth consecutive opponent Indiana has held to 40 percent shooting or worse.
Roy Hibbert added a season-high 20 points and seven rebounds as the Pacers remained the NBA's lone undefeated team.
''Everybody has to sacrifice something,'' Hibbert said. ''It's somebody different every night. I don't expect to have 20-point nights all the time.''
The Pacers improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 1970-71, when the club played in the ABA. They rallied from a halftime deficit for the fifth time this season and overcame 16 turnovers to shoot 46.2 percent.
While George had Hibbert's scoring and 14 points from George Hill, Gay never received much support. His usual wingman, DeMar DeRozan, entered averaging 19.2 points per game but scored just six and missed 13 of 15 shots.
''It's tough on the whole team when DeMar struggles,'' Gay said. ''I have to figure out how we can make us both comfortable at the same time.''
George added eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. His sensational start to his fourth season had fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse peppering him with the occasional ''M-V-P'' chant.
NOTES: Hill returned after missing three games with a sore left hip. C.J. Watson scored 33 points in three games starting in Hill's place. ... Pacers forward Danny Granger, who has yet to play this season because of a strained left calf, may return to practice next week. ... The Raptors won both visits to Bankers Life Fieldhouse last season. ... Tyler Hansbrough, drafted by Indiana with the No. 13 pick in 2009, returned for the first time since signing with Toronto as a free agent in July. He entered to a mixed reaction in the first quarter and finished with four points and five rebounds in 19 minutes.
source:
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/george-leads-pacers-91-84-024023803
TS (toni storks) note:
Indiana Pacers is one of the most successful team in the old ABA winning the championship 3 times, in 1970, 1972 & 1973. They became a NBA team in 1976 due to the merger of ABA-NBA.

Celtics hold off Magic, win second straight 91-89
AP - Sports
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The Boston Celtics are prepared to go through growing pains this season as they continue learn to adapt to life without franchise stalwarts Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
Coach Brad Stevens is ready for a long process, but will take a few wins like Friday night along the way.
Brandon Bass had 16 points, including a pair of free-throws in the closing seconds to help the Boston Celtics fight back from an early hole and hang on for a 91-89 victory over the Orlando Magic.
''We talked before about making winning plays in winning time, and we did. That was neat,'' Stevens said afterward. ''Overall, I'm very pleased with the result but we still have a lot to work on. We're not that much different than if we wouldn't have won the game.''
Trailing by three, the Magic had a chance to tie the game in the final minute, but Arron Afflalo's jumper came from just a half-step inside the 3-point line.
The win is the Celtics' second straight and extends their win streak over Orlando to nine games. They will try to make it three straight Saturday at defending champion Miami.
Avery Bradley added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Celtics.
Boston survived a 36 percent shooting night from the field and 2-for-14 performance from beyond the arc.
It was the fourth straight opponent that the Magic held under 40 percent. But after taking an early lead they let the Celtics back in the game by committing a season-high 20 turnovers that led to 25 points on the other end.
Afflalo led the Magic, who had their three-game win streak ended, with 23 points. Nik Vucevic finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds but was mostly bottled up by Boston's defense.
Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said the turnovers also contributed to Vucevic's off night.
''That didn't help us initiate our offense and then secondly, they did a good job of trying to deny him the basketball,'' he said. ''You've got to give them credit for their defense.''
NOTES: With the college basketball season opening on Friday night, Stevens said that he has stayed in tune with his former Butler team. ''Yeah, I pay attention to it,'' he said. ''You're always invested more in the people you know and the people that you're really tight with and friends with. I'll be interested to see if my family watches our game (Saturday) night or the Butler game.''...

Slowly the rebuilding Celtics is getting used to rookie coach Brad Stevens' system. And a surprise to me is the contribution off-the-bench by Canadian rookie, Kelly Olynyk. If he sustain his game, he is a strong candidate for all-rookie team.

Turner, Wroten lead Sixers over Cavs 94-79
AP - Sports
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia 76ers heard all the whispers before the season started. They were predicted by most experts to be among the worst teams in the league, if not the worst.
Through six games, the Sixers are choosing not to listen.
Evan Turner scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Tony Wroten added 18 points and the Sixers cruised past the Cleveland Cavaliers 94-79 on Friday night, overshadowing the return of Andrew Bynum.
Thaddeus Young added 16 points, while James Anderson and Michael Carter-Williams had 11 each for the Sixers, who ended a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2. Spencer Hawes scored 10 points.
''I think the biggest thing is we're not listening to anyone on the outside and we're just coming to work ready to play,'' said Young, who added eight rebounds. ''We have a young, hard-working group of guys in here and we all have a lot to prove. We just need to stick together and I think our confidence is growing with each win.''
Wroten's offensive output was a career-best.
The buzz leading into the game was the return of Bynum, who signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Cavaliers in July.
Bynum had been acquired by the Sixers in a four-team, 12-player trade in the summer of 2012. But the two-time All-Star center never played for the Sixers because of bilateral bone bruises in both knees. He had season-ending arthroscopic surgery in March and wound up signing the incentive-laden deal with the Cavaliers as a free agent.
Booed every time he touched the ball, Bynum played 18 minutes in a reserve role and finished with four points and five rebounds.
''It was just another game for me,'' Bynum said.
Dion Waiters led the Cavaliers with 18 points while Jarrett Jack and C.J. Miles added 13 each.
Tristan Thompson had 13 points and 16 rebounds and Kyrie Irving contributed 10 points on 4-for-17 shooting for Cleveland, which fell to 2-4 with all four losses coming on the road.
NOTES: Cavaliers F Anthony Bennett left the game with 8:37 remaining in the second quarter and didn't return because of a sprained right shoulder. Bennett, the No. 1 overall pick in June's draft, was scoreless in six minutes and remains 1 for 20 from the field through six games. . . The Sixers wore red, white and blue headbands in honor of Veterans Day, which is Monday.

TS (toni storks) note:
Spencer Hawes also had 6 blocks in this ball game. For me, if he continue playing good basketball, scoring, rebounding and blocking shots, he can be considered for the Most Improved Player Award. He is an underrated but a good passing big man especially in the high post.

Anthony, Knicks beat Bobcats, spoil Ewing's debut
AP - Sports
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Leave it to a Syracuse guy to spoil Patrick Ewing's NBA head coaching debut.
Carmelo Anthony had 28 points and eight rebounds, Andrea Bargnani added 25 points and the New York Knicks beat Ewing's Bobcats 101-91 Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Ewing, the former Georgetown star who spent 15 seasons with the Knicks, filled in as Charlotte's coach after Steve Clifford underwent a successful procedure earlier in the day to have two stents placed in his heart. Clifford checked himself into the hospital late Thursday night with chest pain.
The Bobcats haven't said when they expect Clifford to return to the bench.
''Unfortunately I didn't get my first win,'' Ewing said. ''I was nervous at first but once the game started I was able to calm down and do my thing.''
The Knicks did their thing right from the opening tip, looking for the first time this season like the playoff team they were a year ago.
After Tuesday night's 102-97 loss to the Bobcats, the Knicks held a players-only meeting.
Whatever was said apparently worked.
''Sometimes you need to get together and talk and communicate and figure out what the problem is, what's the issue,'' Anthony said. ''We responded well tonight.''
The Knicks played with a passion that's been absent of late and drew the ire of owner James Dolan. Behind Anthony, who once led Syracuse to a national title, things looked a lot better.
''We played like our backs were against the wall,'' Anthony said. ''It was a must-win for us. This early in the season when you talk about must-wins, something obviously is going wrong. But we corrected that.''
Bargnani is a big reason why.
Filling in at center for the injured Tyson Chandler, Bargnani hit 11 of 25 shots from the field - including three 3-pointers - had eight rebounds and blocked five shots. It was his first 20-point game since March 4.
Bargnani said he learned a lesson along the way.
''Don't be hesitant and just play my game and go out there and do what I've always done all these years,'' Bargnani said. ''I got to be more aggressive on the offense.''
Said Anthony: ''It seemed like tonight he wasn't hesitating and he had that shoot-first mentality, which I like.''
Kemba Walker, who led the Bobcats with 25 points, said that's where his team fell short.
Walker said the Bobcats' lack of energy, not Ewing's coaching ability, is the reason Charlotte had its two-game win streak snapped.
Raymond Felton added 15 points for the Knicks (2-3).
NOTES: The Bobcats entered as the second-worst free throw shooting team in the league, but hit 19 of 20 foul shots in the first half. ... The Bobcats continue to play without Al Jefferson, who is out with a sprained ankle. ... The Knicks shot 46 percent from 3-point range.

The much maligned Andrea Bargnani breakout game in a Knicks uniform thanks to the injury of Tyson Chandler.
And Patrick Ewing as coach?, he's better as an assistant, hehehe. .
