man with his babyScientists have been working on a birth control pill for men for years now. It would stunt sperm growth and be totally reversible, just like the female birth control pill. Once men stopped taking the pill, their sperm production would return to normal, and they would once again be able to father children. The male birth control pill isn’t ready for tests on humans yet, but animal research looks very promising. Clinical trial testing may begin within a year.
The male birth control pill would be marketed to married men who want to take on the responsibility for family planning. Most women, in research conducted already, said they would not trust a man they were causally dating to take the responsibility for birth control. Single men who fear paternity lawsuits have expressed interest in the male birth control pill as well.
Scientists are also looking at a long-term delivery system, like an injectable or an implant, for the male birth control pill as women have expressed that taking a pill every day is a difficult daily task to remember at first.
Researchers are quick to stress that the male birth control pill would not affect male hormones nor would it have any effect on their six drive.
