As part of its efforts to ease traffic in Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is considering an expanded number coding scheme.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino on Thursday proposed to expand the number coding scheme to two days per week instead of one day only.

According to a post on Twitter dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo, Tolentino will submit the proposal to the Metro Manila Council, which is set to meet on July 24.

The Metro Manila Council is composed of Metro Manila mayors, Metro Manila congressmen, and other officials, including Transportation and Communications Secretary Jose de Jesus and Public Works and Highways secretary Rogelio Singson.

Quoting Tolentino, Ravelo said the proposed coding scheme includes the banning of cars with plates ending 1, 2, 3, and 4 on Mondays; 5, 6, 7, and 8 on Tuesdays; 9, 1, 0, and 2 on Wednesdays, 3, 4, 5, and 6 on Thursdays, and 7, 8, 9, and 0 on Fridays.

GMA News Online tried but failed to contact Tolentino as he was still in a meeting.

Earlier, socio-economic planning secretary Arsenio Balisacan said Metro Manila may be losing up to P2.4 billion in lost potential income a day due to traffic. — LBG, GMA News

They are completely missing the point.
This is how they do it in other countries:
1. Fix the thoroughfares. Widen the lanes.
2. Regulate the public transport sector properly. Get rid of antiquated buses/jeepneys still plying the routes.
3. Remove roadblocks and bottlenecks. Sidewalk vendors, public vehicles stopping anywhere - these are unsafe and slow down traffic along heavily crowded areas.

to this, i will agree with you sir.... because just as i observed along EDSA, the build up of traffic jam always happen when there is a Bus stop point... or there is a u-turn...

Agree with 2 and 3. Get rid of pasaway buses, collorums, etc. Removing sidewalk vendor is a must.

The News Article didn't mention the planned expanded number coding will be implemented in Edsa only (not Metro Manila) as explained by Mr. Tolentino a while ago. In my opinion, lets give it a try (pag hindi umubra ibalik sa dati at sumubok ng ibang paraan. Ang importante may ginagawang paraan)
