UAAP volleyball: Lady Eagles reach perfect 10 by blanking UP

There was no need for a five-setter bout this time around.
Dominating one game at a time all season long, the Ateneo Lady Eagles won their 10th straight game of the season after ousting the UP Lady Maroons in straight sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 at the Filoil Flying V Arena Saturday afternoon.
Alyssa Valdez once again led all scorers with 20 points while Bea De Leon added 10 points. In addition, Amy Ahomiro had 9 points and 2 blocks.
On the other, Marian Buitre led UP with 13 points and 4 blocks while team captain Nicole Tiamzon had 12 points and 2 blocks.
“Last game namin against UP sobra-sobra errors namin and siguro [in this game] naminimize namin ang errors,” said Valdez. “Hands down din ako kay Jia [Morado] at sa lahat ng team mates ko na naglevel-up talaga lalo na yung middle namin in Bea [De Leon] and Kiwi [Ahomiro].”
Effortlessly breaking the Lady Maroons in the first two sets, it look liked another day in the bag for the Lady Eagles after hoisting a quick 9-3 lead in the third set.
UP would then fight back and put up a gallant stand which saw them trim the Ateneo led to 16-14. However, that surge proved to be UP’s last breath as Valdez poured on a series of thunderous spikes to lead the defending champions to their 10th consecutive win.
This win further cements Ateneo’s lead in the standings with an unblemished 10-0 record.
Ateneo’s next game will be against the FEU Lady Tamaraws this February 4 at Filoil Flying V Arena while UP will battle against the Adamson Lady Falcons this February 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
