MANILA, Philippines – Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago is back with a bang, announcing that her choices for runningmate – if her health allows her to run for president in the 2016 elections – are Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, former defense secretary Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro, and Senator Grace Poe.
"Maybe Duterte will make a good vice president not only for me but even for anybody who is running for president. Gilbert Teodoro, not only for me but for all others," said Santiago.
She then entertained thoughts of two women running together. "Or maybe, it just crossed my mind, maybe we can have two women running together, president and vice president. How about that ladies? Maybe it's Miriam and Grace. It sounds like a restaurant, 'no (is it not)?" said Santiago.
"Kasi (because) all the others are spoken for. Pia [Cayetano] will have to be loyal to her brother (Alan) who might run for president. Nancy [Binay] will have to be loyal to her father who might run for president....I'm only using Grace because 'Miriam and Grace' sounds so charming," she added, laughing.
She said Duterte, who is known for his iron fist leadership, would make an "excellent VP for enforcement" especially because the country is facing serious issues on graft and corruption and peace order. But Duterte was previously quoted as saying that he's not interested in running for national office.

She said running for president is one of the 3 options she's mulling over as she expects to fully recover from lung cancer. She ends her third term as senator in 2016.
"If I make a full recovery early enough from lung cancer, I am considering 3 options: First, to run for the presidency. Second, join the International Advisory Council of an NGO. Three, write a book in Washington DC, under a writing fellowship," Santiago said.
She will decide in December, she said. "If I do not reach full recovery by December this year, I will not run for any public office. The decision to run will depend on my doctors," Santiago told reporters.
She also said that reports on the pork barrel scam, the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), and the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building 2 has convinced her that she should seek the presidency in 2016.
"Everytime I hear this news, I not only get stressed…but I also think that I should be president because it’s now so difficult to be president of this, I will describe it as a feckless or irresponsible country," she said.
She said her latest PET CT scan shows that 80% of her cancer tumor has disappeared. "Like all cancer patients, I have my good days and bad days. On bad days, I am totally dysfunctional. On good days, I am almost normal," she said.
In July, the senator announced that she had Stage IV lung cancer, and they she would undergo treatment that is expected to aid her full recovery. At the time, Santiago had said that she would seek the presidency in 2016 if her health would allow her.
Santiago ran for president in 1992 but lost to Fidel V. Ramos, whom she believes had cheated her of the presidency.

Miriam Santigao? For me she's THE BOMB! I always remember a quote from her that says... 'We must not think about ourselves.... We must think about the Community as a whole'
... Our country must be very proud to have such a highly intelligent politician with such political caliber. Her political stature and background speaks of her accomplishments not only in the Philippines but in other international organizations as well... I can say that if the British have their THATCHER... We have that perky little BOMB, Mrs. Santiago...anong sinabi ng isang MERKEL? I could place her highly in the level of H. CLINTON... One point ahead pa nga, considering the scandal of Bill with Monica Lewinsky...
But i would rather ( as a personal opinion) have her in the legislatory board... Than throw her out into the political exploits and slandered and be ( sure ko) assassinated in less than a month or two upon winning the Presiential seat...
Why? Politics is dominated by men... Politically notorious, crooked and cruel men with only their PErSONAL gain in their minds.. A woman like Miriam , much for her intelligence and brilliance might not be a match against those who have been cronies and benefactors of the anarchy in the government ... Admit it not... Sa kahit na saang anggulo... BALIGTAD ang mundo...
People ( especially in the politics ) love to flaunt and to show off.... For the sole reason of gaining popularity... And unfortunately.... The Philippine voters , especially the lowly masses recognized only the influence of those who have the means, the face.... And the notoriety...
Meaning....? Miriam might be the grand slam winner ... But surely her detractors will definetely do something to sabotage the ballots... And IF ever Santiago will take the Presiential Seat... As i said earlier..... It won't be her Lung cancer that will bury her six feet below the ground .... A bullet or a bomb will make her appointment with her coffin.
Marumi ang pulitika sa Pilipinas , some will say that my analysis is quite cruel... But we all know that Santiago is someone direct with her words , a no nonsense kind of a person... She's quite an invisible missile that goes direct to the target most of the time... Her diplomacy and tirades have been sensationalized in the media and social network sites.., i guess the other politicians dont have that kind of charm and wit to level up with hers... But nonetheless ... If she's popular with the public.. Marami din syang detractors... Hundred percent sure yan.
If she will run in 2016.. With Binay and Aquino as contenders.... Honestly... Considersig the political show off the three of them makes a very good match... Only rose among the thorns .... But , as per my analysis.... The TIMING isn't right... She could have run for the presidency years ago.... She could have done it... What with Estrada's incapacity? With Gloria's scam controversies ....? She could have done it.... Honestly i dont think Aquino is ready to relinquish the post to anyone at the moment...
So much for that perky brainy BOMB .. Who, in my good sense have all the requisites to SERVE and not to RULE our country...
But i guess... As what i quoted earlier.... Her GOAL is not really to be in command to think about herself ( being the president) but to think about our country and serve it well. For as long as she is capable.

miriam will get my vote for 2016 and lesser evil would be grace poe for VP, or the iron hand or duterte would be a perfect match....

Meriam and Duterte for 2016!!!, at kung ayaw pa din ni Duterte sa pagka-presidente.. cguro dun sya nararapat sa DILG... just my 2 cents :)
