Title: Singha: Filipino troops did an 'act of cowardice'
Post by: fayt on September 10, 2014, 10:10:58 AM
In an interview with the publication India Today, Singha accused the Filipino troops of being unprofessional for breaking the chain of command.

Singha also implied that it was the Filipinos who aggravated the situation in the Golan Heights.
"The non-professional actions of the Filipino troops have endangered the lives of the Fijian soldiers. They have defied orders at a time when we had negotiated a ceasefire with the rebels to ensure that all troops in the conflict area could exit," said Singha, as quoted by India Today.

The early morning evacuation by the Filipino troops—the very act of defiance lauded by the AFP as "The Greatest Escape"—was called by Singha as nothing more than cowardice.
"It is an act of cowardice to desert posts especially when a delicate ceasefire was in place," Singha was quoted as saying. "They broke the chain of command and UN orders."
Singha said the move by the Filipinos ruined the ongoing negotiation with the rebels, both for safe passage of the Filipinos from position 68 and the possible release of the Fijian peacekeepers.

AFP chief responds

Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr., chief of staff of the AFP, however, said Singha was about to extricate the Filipinos from position 68 the same way he did with those in positions 60 and 69, but then changed his mind at the last minute.
"General Singha ordered no military operations. He put a stop to it. He told us when the next attack comes in, surrender your firearms and put up a white flag," Catapang said. —reports from Elric Ayop, ABS-CBN News Davao; and Chiara Zambrano, ABS-CBN News

iba syempre ang pinoy.... atakbo atulin yan.... aba... ikaw na mapulutan dun di ka ba iisip ng paraan kung paano kayo makakatakas? we can not say this or that when lives are in danger, we can't blame our countrymen if we thought that they have broken UN protocols simply because we were not in their shoes... common sense dictates and that it's a natural instinct for them to fend for themselves at that critical point... can we not be contented that our prayers were heard upon learning that they were safe? Oh come on...

I don't think any Filipino troops will break or desert any chain of command not unless.., a direct order was drafted and given by their commanding superiors... As far as im concerned... Wala pa akong  narinig na deserter and sunadalong pinoy.... We don't have that kind of reputation regarding  our status in the armed forces...the PAF in general opinion may  have poor combat arm machines ... Be it in land/ sea air combat warfare but ... To accuse us of desertion? I dont think so... Allied countries  may have their protocol agreement with the UN , and regardless of the critical situation that any Filipino troop has been drafted to join.... Our Government , definetely has right to to pull out our troops anytime... Depende sa negotiation yan.

The act of pulling out our troops from their posts was a military maneuver... Ordered and expected to be acted upon. Immediately.
