MANILA, Philippines – A Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) train went past its barriers at the terminal Taft station Wednesday, August 13, injuring several passengers and causing a post to fall over a car.

A passenger told dzBB the problems began in the Magallanes station, when the train air-conditioning went off. “May nag-start so nag-panic kami. Umandar [yung train] pero walang aircon,” the passengers said. (We started panicking. The train was still working but there was no air-conditioning.)

The passenger said as the train approached Taft station, the door opened and passengers started to panic. Another passenger who was interviewed on the radio station said they wanted to alight the train but they were not allowed.

According to media reports, the train hit a post which in turn fell on a car.

The front part of the first coach of the train is reserved for pregnant women, women with small children, and the elderly; the first coach is for women. One and a half coaches went past the barrier.

DOTC-MRT3 issued an advisory on its official Twitter account, citing a “technical problem.”

“Advisory: We are currently undergoing necessary intervention for the technical problem encountered. We apologize for the inconvenience TY,” it tweeted at around 4:27 pm.

Speaking to media, Pasay city chief of police Senior Superintendent Florencio Ortilla said police were starting to secure the area and to make sure people would not panic. The Taft station is typically the site of heavy vehicular and human traffic and is where the MRT-3 and LRT-1 lines meet.

Injured passengers were being brought to the Pasay City General Hospital and the San Juan de Dios Hospital. As of 4:34, media reports saying passengers are still being rescued from inside the train.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that its rescuers and enforcers are on site, and advised motorist to “expect heavy traffic.”

They should be sued and they should pay millions to each and everyone na naging victim doon.

Mag bibigay sila ng 10-50k na pang gamot, eh ano kaya yon? Their lives where in danger, and they were supposed to be the ones in charge of that. Kahit sabihin na accident, that's not excuse. Humingi ka ng bayad, pinayagan mo sumakay, aba dapat may pananagutan sila.

Natawa nga ako sa news kagabi. Safe naman po sumakay, actually lagi po namin yan chine check.

Am I taking crazy pills here? You're statement don't mean squat, may accident na so wtf are you taking about? Pay them and people should be charged for this negligence. May warning na pala sila ng matagal na na this could happen. The audacity of these people are legendary.
Title: MRT3 operations halted over communications breakdown
Post by: Zurca on August 24, 2014, 09:41:24 PM
MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT3) suspended operations starting 12:05 pm on Saturday, August 23, due to a breakdown of its radio communications system.

Hernando Cabrera, spokesperson of the Light Rail Transit Authority and MRT3, said the train management was compelled to suspend operations after the train line's radio communications system encountered a problem.

“This is a safety issue so we have no choice but to stop operations,” Cabrera said in an interview on dzBB.

He apologized to MRT3 users, saying the suspension was prompted by safety concerns.

“We cannot operate without radio communications,” Cabrera said.

Cabrera said in an interview with Rappler that around 11:15 am, a problem was detected in the communications system, or the radio system between the train drivers and the control center.

He said while the drivers can transmit messages, the control center cannot, turning it into a one-way communication.

“Since this is vital to the safety of our operations, the security officer called for the suspension [of operations],” Cabrera said.

Since trains could still operate through “signalling,” the official said all trains were told to go to the nearest station to unload their passengers.

He said that the problem is being fixed, but cannot give an estimate on when operations are likely to resume.

Cabrera tweeted past 6 pm that "MRT3 will no longer resume operations today, communication system still down, repairs ongoing."

He said that as far as he could recall, this was the first time for the MRT3 to encounter such a problem. He also said that the communications system will be upgraded, but the process is “still in its early stages.”

“They're still drafting the terms of the bidding, among others,” he said.

The technical issue comes over a week after the derailing of an MRT3 train reportedly caused by human error, and is the latest in a long line of problems hounding the train system operations.

The August 13 train derailing is the train system's worst accident to date, injuring around 36 people when a train breached the safety barriers in its station in Pasay City.

im started to think na itaas ng todo ang pamasahe sa mrt like 30 php for minimum distance.. Basta ba ilalaan nila for maintenance and other technical dependencies to ensure na magiging safe ang byahe....
