Title: No Chicken Joy? Jollibee corporation temporarily closes 72 stores
Post by: Zurca on August 09, 2014, 10:15:57 PM
MANILA, Philippines – Fast food giant Jollibee Foods Corporations (JFC) said on Friday, August 8, that it has temporarily closed down 72 stores under its umbrella, representing 3.2% of its total store network, because of the limited availability of chicken, burgers and other bestsellers.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange, Jollibee explained that the company’s migration to a new system that started on August 1, 2014, has slowed down its sales order taking, product loading, and transport of goods.

As a result, it had to close down some stores in Metro Manila and nearby cities due to the absence of its best-selling products or because other stores offered very limited menu.

JFC owns, aside from Jollibee, other food restaurants such as Mang Inasal, Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Burger King, among others.

The company, however, refused to provide a breakdown of the 72 stores that were closed.

Jollibee apologized to its millions of customers.

“In our estimate, the JFC group has not been able to serve the consumer to the extent of 6% of its normal nationwide sales in the first 7 days of August 2014,” the fast food giant said.

Jollibee Group said it has sufficient raw materials, finished products, and production capacity to meet consumer demand for August and for the months ahead, both for local and imported goods.

The company just has to fix the new IT system it put in place.

“The products are in the company's various commissaries, warehouses, and logistics center. JFC will also enhance its transportation delivery capability in the months ahead,” it added.

Chicken war

Jollibee’s distraught customers took to social media on August 7, complaining about their missing “favorites.”

#ChickenSad, a spoof of Chicken Joy, became a trending hashtag.

Rival KFC seized the moment and posted this photo on Twitter:

The system that caused the glitch is what the company described as a new enterprise platform – its biggest IT investment amounting to at least P500 million ($11.34 million*) for 2014 alone.

This involves a central integrating system and a store information system for the entire Jollibee network in the Philippines, among others.

“The purpose of this major investment is to prepare JFC for an accelerated business growth in the Philippines and abroad as it pursues its goal to become the largest Asian restaurant company and one of the most successful restaurant companies in the world,” the company said.

On August 6, Jollibee reported that it is putting up stores in Malaysia and Indonesia, solidifying its footprint in Southeast Asia.

Jollibee Group operates the largest food service network in the Philippines.

Jollibee is already present in Vietnam, Brunei, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and the Middle East.

Philippine KFC is pathetic... but I did notice a few years after they opened it was different... the chicken was better and so was the zinger. Now its a tiny morsel that can barely satisfy your hunger.  Jollibee chicen is better specially the spicy variety.  But Id rather eat at  kenny's

It's not a marketing strategy. They've recently migrated to a new system without training their users. We've experienced the same thing nung nag migrate kami to that new system.

Chicken shortage? ... Agawan sa suppliers? Surely.. Magtataas yan ng price.

That's obviously predictable .

Rebus sic stantibus

Or.. since there was a ban on importation of meat products from China.. ndi kaya?

Your guesses are as good as mine.

we dont really mean the marketing strategies towards Jollibee but we are directing that word to the KFC advertistment. ... actually I dont think people is interestes kung ano pang upgrade ginagawa nila they only care for having a chicken for lunch... so cant blame KFC to take advantage of the situation. ..

Interesting, although I don't enjoy chicken joy lately, at least not as I used to. Ewan ko ba, pero parang mas masarap noon, same sentiments with KFC, parang madalas over cooked and dry ang chicken nila lately and I don't remember it being that dark. It's still good, don't get me wrong, pero siguro kasi nung bata ako I was mind blown hahaha.

My beef with chicken joy naman is like with most fried chicken, balat lang ang gusto ko, the flesh is usually tasteless or taste like paper at best hence the need for gravy na sinasabaw ko sa Kanin. Perhaps nanawa nadin ako, a Jollibee is very near my location so it's the default pa-deliver food.

I used to hate McDo's fried chicken, pero now I enjoy it more for some reason. Parang mas malasa, pero it's on the salty side nga lang. There is still a need for rice and gravy though, I wouldn't eat their chicken ng yun lang. Maalat.

Anyway, interesting to know. Thanks for the share.

Jollibee to restore full menu this week

MANILA, Philippines – Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) has announced that all stores that had been closed due to lack of products resulting from distribution problems re-opened on Sunday, August 17.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, August 18, JFC said these stores are located mostly in Metro Manila and that the biggest-selling products, particularly the popular "Chicken Joy," are now available.

Some lower-selling products are not yet available in some stores, the company added, while all products are expected to be available within the week.

"The JFC Group of Companies looks forward to the full restoration of its excellent service to its customers and the complete availability of its products in all the stores in the Philippines."

On August 17, total system-wide sales in the Philippines amounted to P288.3 million ($6.6 million*), representing a growth of 28.2% versus the same Sunday a year ago (August 18, 2013). In the month of July, system-wide sales grew 15%.

System-wide sales during the first 17 days of August amounted to P800 million ($18.31 million). This represented a growth of 7.7% over the same period in August 2013.

Same store sales growth on August 17 was 23.2% versus the same Sunday a year ago. This compared with a 10% growth in the month of July. During the first 17 days of August, same store sales went up 6%. Same stores sales come from stores that have been opened for at least 15 months and exclude sales generated by recently opened outlets.

"Sales for August 17 were very strong across the brands despite the limited availability of non-core products in some stores. The sales growth was very significant, most likely due to pent-up demand resulting from the lack of available products in the past two weeks," JFC said.

“Moving forward, sales growth will likely stabilize at 8%-10% on a same store basis, comparable to the growth rates in recent quarters," it added.

Between July 31, 2013 and July 31, 2014, 139 outlets were opened by JFC in the Philippines, representing a growth in its store network of 6.6% (net of outlet closures).

As of July 31, 2014, it was operating 2,245 restaurant outlets in the country and 588 overseas.
