'Don't panic': One-tonne satellite falling to Earth
A one-tonne satellite is falling out of control and is likely to crash into the Earth sometime during the weekend, scientists have warned.
The Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer was launched in March 2009, to study changes in sea level, ocean circulation and the planet's gravitational field.
It has now run out of fuel and is spiralling back to Earth.

The European Space Agency says it cannot predict exactly where or when but that it is highly unlikely to cause any casualties. [Bohi's comments: Unlikely? Tang**$* nyo!]
Tim Allman reports.

Pag sa pinas bumagsak yan, masaya ang mga nangangalakal. Kidding aside, sana naman magawan ng kinauukulan ng paraan para walang madisgrasya.

Wtf, thought this was related to your recent post about scary news.. :o Let's just pray that it won't crash on a crowded place. This is not a joke indeed.

ohh.... what a news indeed...
hope na konti na lang debris na bumagsak pagdating sa kalupaan hehehe...

More information about this: http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/1-tonne-goce-satellite-falls-to-earth-sunday-night-1.2419729?cmp=rss (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/1-tonne-goce-satellite-falls-to-earth-sunday-night-1.2419729?cmp=rss) Sabi most probably by Sunday yung reentry sa Earth's athmosphere.

it's a ton of metal -- that's lighter than a car. ibig ding sabihin, maliit lang yan plus may parte pa nyan na masusunog sa pagpasok sa atmosphere.
i suppose it's like saying that a meteor rock the size of a baseball is expected to crash somewhere in texas.
no need to panic. this isn't as scary as it has been made out to be.
besides, what care can anybody take to avoid getting hit? pag bumagsak yan sa bumbunan mo out of all the land area sa buong mundo, ibig lang sabihin nun eh oras mo na (o kaya talagang buwisit sa yo ang diyos) -- kahit pa joke yang news o hindi.
serious has nothing to do with it.

legit ba talaga itong news na ito
wag naman sana :'(

It's legit bro Itachi. Galing yung news sa refutable news websites. But tulad nga ng sabi ni bro marmaim its even lighter than a car. Kaya there's nothing to be scared of. Most probably mag dis integrate yan upon athmosphere re entry kaya may makarating man sa Earth surface most probable na small debris na lang yun. And because mas malaki ang tubig kaysa sa kalupaan, mas malaki ang probability na sa waters to babagsak. I'm not an expert on this or anything, its just my opinion.

This is from the European Sapce Agency (ESA) website. This site tracks the satellite.

Considering the current orbital speed of 7.84 and its trajectory due to centrifugal forces. Also the effects of friction upon entering the athmosphere. Assuming it is made of aircraft aluminum alloy, the coefficient of friction is 1.05 if unlubricated, and 0.3 when lubricated. Then it will probably be a potato. Just kidding.. Anyway it will be nice if the reentry would be at night and during a clear sky. It would be nice to see with a telescope.
