Bohi's comments: I've seen a lot of drivers using hazard lights in the rain. IMO this is not a sound reason for using it. It confuses other drivers and first responders in case of accidents. Read on...

It has been a big discussion on social media: motorists who use their hazard lights while driving in the rain.
In Florida, it is illegal to drive with your hazard lights. Hazards lights are for stopped vehicles only, officials say. The one situation where Florida drivers are allowed to use their hazards when in motion is when the vehicle is being used in a funeral procession .
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson told NewsChannel 5 that flashers are for emergency situations. "First responders look for flashers to see if someone needs help," said an FHP spokesperson.
Law enforcement officials say hazard lights can actually reduce visibility making other drivers think you are stopped or stalled.
Other drivers writing on social media say flashers make it difficult to see when a motorist is tapping the brakes or using a turn signal.
The FHP spokesperson says if visibility is so bad that you cannot see, pull over in a parking lot, plaza or somewhere safe until conditions improve.

Park lights or fog lamp will do.. Sometimes turning on hazard lights will just confuse other vehicles, di nila alam kung kakanan ka o kakaliwa.

tama si sir tracer park lights or fog lamp will do. pero pag super foggy lalo na pagpaakyat or pababa ng Baguio advisable din minsan gumamit ng hazard lights lalo na sa mga slow moving vehicles at trucks. minsan kasi magugulat ka na lang may sasakyan pala sa harap mo.

I've always considered those idiots driving in the rain with their hazard lights on took driving lessons from the Hazard Driving School.
It's bad enough that they turn on their hazard lights. What makes it so dangerous is that they don't stay in their lane. Instead, they weave in and out of traffic, changing lanes as often as they think is necessary.
But the biggest idiots, I think, are the poorly trained traffic enforcers and the current policy in place - "non-contact apprehension" thru digicams by MMDA, and apprehending violators at the exit of the expressways.
If only traffic enforcers, especially the "highway" patrol will apprehend violators, there would be more discipline on our roads.

When driving in the rain I just usually use full headlamp power. And drive slowly and carefully.
Hazard lights mean that you're in an emergency or that your car is not working properly. Neither of which are the case when you're driving in (strong) rain.
However, if your car DOES break down while driving in the rain, hazard lights are justified.
-
Pero majority ng mga drivers drive in the rain with hazzards on. Wala naman kasing batas o pa seminar ang govt regarding that matter.
Peace out!
-
-
I agree dun sa pag hazard.
Like last Friday night, may bagyo, wala kang makikita sa daan.
It really helps when you could see a blinking light then you will be extra careful and alert.
-
They're called hazard lights for a reason. Only if the situation poses danger or threat to you and others. Rain or even snow here in Canada are commonplace. I don't think you shouldn't be using them if you're mobile.
-
There are too many misinformed individuals na gumagamit ng hazard lights kapag mahina ang visibility. There is a reason why a front and rear fog lights are created.
-

true that...
just make your self visible, paandarin mo headlights, fog lamps and rear foglamps.
also hazard lights often used as a "park anywhere button" lol :)
-
High beam and/or fog light is enough
-
Kung sobra lakas lang ng ulan or fog, for added visibility.
-
mahirap na
lalo kung zero visibility ang sitwasyon
-
some think na ok gamitin yun hazzard pag heavy rain or zero visibility pero come to think of it mas alanganin yun kasi yung nasa likod mo hindi malalaman kung liliko ka ba o hindi
-
kung low/zero visibility, dapat mag slow down or better yet, hanap ng lugar kung san pwede mag park at mag hintay na mag improve yung situatiom.
hirap kasi dito satin, low visibility na. mag on pa ng hazard light tapos same way of driving pa rin. fast, weaving in and out of lanes. so nakakaconfuse sa ibang drivers which in turn leads to accidents.
-
Actually mali talaga na gumamit ng hazard light at any given situation kapag mababa ang visibility lalo na kapag may ulan at umaandar ang sasakyan. The light of the car should be on tulad ng pagdadrive kapag gabi na... ang mga taong gumagamit ng hazard kapag umaandar ang sasakyan ay nagpapatunay na kulang sila sa kaalaman sa pagmamaneho.....

Absolutely correct imoy. Driving with other vehicles using hazard lights is uncomfortable and dangerous. For one, the other drivers won't know the direction the vehicle with the hazard lights on is turning.

-
usually kasi kapag sandstorm dito at biglang walang makita, on na yung hazard lights para ready to slow down na yung kasunod lalo freeway..
-
I also do open my hazard lights pag halos wala ng makita sa daan...

Let us keep the roads safe.
-
^ yes i totally agree with sir bohica here... we use the hazard lights only when parked and having some emergency stops... we need to use the signal lights when turning left or right or for slightly changing lanes... we must educate ourselves properly in using those otherwise our lives are at the mercy of the incoming or upcoming vehicles... don't get offended just because you have been cautioned by telling you what was the right or proper usage of the hazard lights, this is our home and we intend to share and learn something from this... thanks guys for helping us all be safe in our streets... libreng aral ito at hindi kasali sa road user's tax hahahaha...
-
Pag ulan nde naman dapat naka on hazard light mo to let other motorist know about the road situation they should know na pag ulan you have to take precaution drive slow and pay attention whats infront of you ..pagfog naman naka low beam, hazard lights is for emergency only well atleast yan natutunan ko dito lol imagine sa pinas magbayad ka Lang may drivers license ka na, dito nakerr take ka muna ng written exam may handbook pa na ibigay para nagstudy 80 points passing score then pag pumasa ka driving test naman may police nakasakay kaya better be know the signs and signals lalo na the use of lights in every situation or else you failed and need more warm up and come back in 3 weeks or untill you get it right lol..

Hazard lights must be turned on during rain or visibility is low to alert any vehicles

To alert of what? If you want to be seen turn on your tail lights.
Hazard lights should only be turned on if help is required.
-
Turning your hazards on makes all four turn signals flash at the same time, giving a heads-up to emergency crews that there’s a traffic hazard or problem. Bad idea.
