273 = x2 + 8x

x^2 +8x -273 =0
using quadratic formula, x=(-8 +/- sqrt(8^2 - (4*1*-273)) / (2*1)
x = (-8 +/- 34) / 2
x = -42/2 or +26/2
x =-21 or 13

pede sa calculator yan sir using Quadratic equation and let a = 1 b = 8 and c = -273
o di kaya sir sa calculator... Itype nyo sya as it is and press for Solve function
then viola
may answer kana ;D ;D

Bat naging quadratic formula yung test sa basic math, ndi ko expected na lalabas ung ganyan.
Actually nagaaral ako ulit pero in swedish, nagulat lang ako dyan sa lumabas na ganyan.

solving that problem using the scientific calculator makes it easy and fast, but you learn nothing. because the calculator did the solving for you. what makes math an interesting subject is how you analyze and solve a problem. if you rely on a calculator, then you learn nothing. that just my humble opinion.

yup tama ka boss.... in some cases lang kasi na need mo isolve yan using calculator for efficiency ;D

First step: move the whole number (273) to the other side of equation
0 = x2 + 8x - 273
2nd step: expand the equation
0 = (x+21)(x-13)
3rd step: substitute x with its given value 13
0 = (13+21)(13-13)
4th step: compute
0 = (46)(0) **forty six times zero**
0=0

correct... however, the better term, i think, for step 2 is "to factor out" -273. find two numbers that, when multiplied, gives -273, and when added gives +8. This will give you (x+21) and (x-13).
Then you'll have
x+21 = 0, and
x-13 = 0
With this, the values of X are -21 and 13, since you will transmute 21 and -13 to the other side of the equation.
X = -21, and
X = 13
Substitute each value, will give you the same answer. Therefore, X is not just 13, but also -21.
