Introduction

Mga ka pt... kung meron kayong alam na easiest way to solve Math Problem using calculator ipost nyo dito sa thread.

Alam naman natin pagdating sa school, syempre magmamatter pa rin ang pagsolve ng Math Problem which begins in writing a solution.

Pero iba na ang labanan pagdating sa mga major exams like Board Exams. In these type of exams, the only matters most is the answer regardless on what solution/s did you use in solving such problems. Lalo na pagdating sa Math subject ng isang Board exams which is kulang (based on my experience) yun 4 hours to solve 50 problems. Each number kung gagamitin mo ng conventional way eh magcoconsume ka ng 15-25 mins which is not efficient dahil gagahulin ka sa oras pag nasa 30th-50th questions. Kaya may mga ilan technique na pede gamitin para makuha mo agad kung ano ang tamang sagot.

Isa sa technique paggamit ng calculator functions in solving some typical problem.. (Syempre bukod sa MDAS)... Yun mga problem na common  lumalabas during exams can solve efficiently using Calulator

Requirement:

Sanay ako gamitin yun Casio MS 991 kaso pagdating sa presentation ng complex problem ehh dapat marunong ka gumamit ng parentheses para malaman ng calculator mo kung ano ang una dapat nya isolve..

Kaya mas advisable din na gumamit ng Casio ES 991 dahil mas naiprepresent nya yun functions or problem in readable mode..

Both calculator na namention ko accepted yan sa Licensure Examination...

Para magamit mo yun mga nakadilaw na function, you have to used Shift button then press lang po natin ang key correspond dun sa function na gusto nyo gamitin. Example kung gusto mo gamitin yun d/dx.... Then press Shift + ∫d/dx....

Para magamit naman ang naka red na function, you have to used Alpha  button. For example, if you want to used the variable A, then press Alpha + (-) button.. para mapalabas mo yun A sa calculator...

Mas madalas magagamit yun A B C D E F X Y M dahil we can create functions or formula using these variable....

So yun lang ang familiarization na ituturo ko dahil kung palagi mo naman ginagamit yan calculator mo mostly hindi na kailangan pa yun tips ko nun sa reply 2 ko... Refresher lang yun  ;D

Basic muna tayo

Lesson 1: Storing Value/s in different Variable (Eto kasi ang common o madalas na magagamit kapag may scientific calculator ka)

Variable/Memory Address (o kung ano man tawag dyan bahala na kayo)

Sa calculator na MS 991 o ES 991 may mga variable tayo na pede natin gamitin to store values..

San ba gagamitin ang stored values? Marami pede panggamitan nyan...

1. Kapag may sinosolve ka ng computations at in the middle na solution mo need mo istore mo muna ang values para sa comparison ng actual values, Example may nasolve kana then need mo istore yun dahil ikukumpara mo naman sya kung iba ang way ng pagsosolve mo..

2. Kung masyado complex ang formula at in the middle need mo istore yun values muna at yun ang gagamitin mo to continue.

3. Kung meron kang constants na hindi mo makabisado yun value at feeling mo lalabas sya sa exam.. Then store that in variable para may reference kana. (Edi nagkaroon kapa kahit konting kodigo dyan hahaha)..

How can we store Values in Specific Variables..

Sa calculator natin, meron kayo makikita na nakared mark na A B C D E F X Y M.. (makikita nyo yan gamitin lang ang mata)

Yun mga tinukoy kong letter na makikita sa Calculator yun ang sinasabi ko na Variable na pede natin iistore ng values....

To store values or answers...

- Kung may value na nakadisplay sa calculator or answer na nakadisplay, pede nyo ipress ang Shift + RCL...

-Then sa pinakataas ng calculator screen (masyado kasi maliit) may nakikita kayo na  STO.... (store)

-Then press nyo lang kung saan nyo Variable na iistore.. Example kung gusto nyo isave yan sa variable A. then press Shift + STO then after na lumabas yun STO then press (-)... kung sa B then press 0000

So nakapagsaved na kayo ng values...

How to retrieve kung anong values na nastore nyo...

2 ways..

first method
- Alpha + (corresponding key for particular variable e.g. for A is (-)..
- Then lalabas mismo sa screen yun A, then press = sign to show the values..

Note: Ang method kasi nato, iniistore nya yun Values ng Variable  sa memory ng ANS (temporary storage ng answer or value after pressing equal sign)

second method

- Press RCL
- Then press the key correspond key para sa variable na gusto nyo makita.. e.g. for A, press (-)..

Note: This method only display the value for corresponding variable pero hindi nya sinisave sa ANS memory..

Eto na lang muna sa ngayon..

Remark lang kayo kung may mali sa procedure para maedit ko...
Sensya na kung may mali dahil nun ginagawa ko to wala ako calculator sa kamay ko (hahaha explain explain)...

Lesson: Evaluation of a function.

Example problem..

What will be the value of Z in eq given Z=X2+2XY+Y4 if x=3 and y=-1

Something na ganyan ang problem...

Kung isosolve mo yan using MDAS lang sa calculator mejo prone to error or baka malito ka lalo na kung ang given value ay negative.. Baka magkadaloko loko na lalo na kung complex functions na ang given..


Paano mo magagamit si calculator efficiently...

Eto lang yan:

1. Itype mo yun function as it is...

for MS

(X^2)+(2*X*Y)+(Y^4)

Yun mga letters na gagamitin nyo yun mga variable letter in using Alpha function. (check reply 2)

Pede nyo rin gamitin ang ibang letters basta ba parehas lang ang pagkakagawa mo ng function

Note:

Sa MS you need to familiarized sa paggamit ng parentheses otherwise baka mali ang lumabas na result due to the nature ng function mo

Kung ES yan walang problem dahil most ng functions kahit gaano pa kacomplex yan kaya nya gawin yun function in readable form..

2. Click Calc button

3. It will ask/display sa calculator mo na "X?"

4. Input mo lang ang value na kailangan then press = button

5. Same procedure kapag sa Y naman..

Then, yun calculator iievaluate nya yun function based sa given values and formula based dun sa function given....

Eto method na to san paba sya pede gamitin.. Bukod dun sa example na binigay ko pede rin to gamitin

1. Pag kailangan mo ng values to plot sa graph..

for example y = mx+b then need mo mga values ni y given na values ni x.. etc..

2. For simplifying (Ituturo ko for succeeding replies or comment)

3. Kung sa series may nabuo kanang formula and need mo pa ng further values.

at marami pa hehehe..

Eto lang muna sa ngayon...

Lesson: Simplifying Expressions.

Introduction

- Sa mga math problems hindi mawawala ang basic topics na maeencounter nyo during board exams or any licensure examinations. Kung math subject sa mga exams, meron at meron lilitaw na ganitong problem. "Simplify the following expression". Fundamental/basic to sa Math subjects.

- Sa school kung solution ang gusto nyo to solve that problem, then it will take up to 30 mins to solve. Whats more, baka hindi kapa makapagderive sa tamang solution kung nagkaroon kana ng problem sa pagsosolve..

Concept ng Simplifying

- Need muna natin marefresh kung ano ba talaga basic ng simplification.

Sa simplification, binabago/shorten natin yun original expression using some properties of Math then makakapag derive tayo ng isang expression without sacrificing the value/proponent of equations

E.g. para magets...

x3+2x2+x

can be simplified

x(x2+2x+1)

kung titignan ang old expression sa new expression, mapapansin natin na magkaiba na sila pero if you evaluate those expression given the value of x. Then you will arrive the same answer using both expressions...

try nyo if x = 1

How can we determine the answer without going thru the solutions..

- Sa exams like board exam, what will matter is the answer not the solution kasi multiple choice kasi karamihan sa board exam. At pagdating sa ganitong problem hindi lang simple ang ibibigay nilang expression. Pero wag na mag alala, pede kasi masovle mga ganitong problem kahit wala kapang alam sa properties ng math. Kaya mo makuha ang answer kahit hindi kana nagsosolve sa scratch paper..

So papaano gagawin yan?

For example given ka ng ganitong kacomplex na expression?

1. Using your calculator, evaluate the given expression

Gamit kayo ng value na hindi exact or may decimal place. (in my case my favorite value is 1.23)

Why? kapag kasi exact may chance kasi na exact din ang makukuha mong sagot sa evaluation at hindi mo malalaman kung ano ba talaga ang sagot dahil magkakaroon tayo ng comparison. Kung decimal yan then makakakuha tayo ng isang finite na value sa evaluation ng original expression..

2. After maevaluate ang original expression, store that value in one of the memory variables.
(A,B,C,D,E,F,X,Y,M)

3. After nyan, dahil sa nature ng exam ay multiple choice, dun palang may idea na tayo na isa dun ay tama (of course) then the rest ay mali na.. So ang gagawin natin, ieevaluate natin isa isa yun mga given choices sa exam using the same value na ginamit nyo nun nag evaluate kayo ng original expression.

4. For each evaluation dun sa mga choices, icocompare nyo yun result dun sa evaluation na nastore natin (in this case yun evaluation ng orginal expression).

5. Kapag may nakapagproduce dun sa mga choices na value na same value dun sa original expression na naistore natin then yun na ang tamang sagot.

6. Wag kana magpatumpik tumpik pa at ishare mo na yun letter na yun  :P


Yan makakapagsolve kana ng isang simplification math expression kahit hindi kana magsolve...

Comment lang kayo kung meron kayo tanong or may mali sa aking procedure..

Lesson: Solving an unknown

Introduction:

-Most of the problem na maeencounter natin sa exam ay infamous na "Solve for x?"problems. Kahit anong functions pa yan basta hindi mawawala yan sa exams. Sa pagsosolve ng gamit ay calculator, pede nyo rin gamitin ang trial and error or subsitution para makuha nyo yun tamang sagot

For example:

3x+2x+4 = 45


you may substitute the value x in list of choices to satified the equation given.

Pero may another way to let your calculator do the computation without trying all those choices. Minsan kasi ang binibigay na function/equations ay mahaba o mahirap na kapag nagtry kapa ng subtitutions, lalo ka lang magcoconsume ng time mo sa pagsosolve. Which is not good lalo na timed pressure ang isang exams..


Shift Calc or Solve function

- This function is one of the useful function pagdating sa isang math exam. Dahil eto na yun function kung saan nagsosolve sya sa value ng unknown kahit ano pa ang equations given. Wag lang hahaluhan ng mga complex functions or value then magagamit mo to sa mga problem tulad ng example ko sa una..


How to used this functions

1. Itype yun function as it is, including yun '=' sign (Alpha + calc and not = button)

2. After itype ang function, press Shift Calc at may lalabas na Solve for X (or such)

3. Then the calculator will evaluate or solve the given unknown. Mejo matagal sya magprompt ng answer kaya pag nasosolve sya, pede kana magbasa ng next questions


San pa sya pede gamitin..

1. Bukod sa linear equation, pede rin sya gamitin sa quadratic equations

2. Sa logarithmic/exponential function na e.g. 9^X = 28242953648

yan lang muna mga ka pt...

Yes, the HP 35s is basically a cheat code. Plus most proctors don't know what it is, so they let it slide. I only used it during MS days though. LOL

caltech to solve calculus(indefinite calculus) ung walang limit....no need to memorize all integral calculus formulas.

pati ung pagkuha ng area ng normal distribution curve.. hahaha..

at caltech sa laplace transform..

Hello guys.... Eto na uli tayo... Pasensya na at sobrang  tagal ng update ng thread na to. Nawala na kasi ang ginagamit kong calculator eh kaya hindi ko na update to. Sa ngayon nakakita ako ng calculator na 350 MS Casio.Mababa ang model compare sa mga na discuss ko na calculator with the likes of MS 991 or ES 991. Pero sa topic ko ngayon, kayang kaya naman ng model na to na masolve ang given problem natin ngayon. At ang functionalities ng calculator ko ngayon ay present naman  sa mga makabagong model. So lets start


TOPIC: Arithmetic Progression

I. What is Arithmetic Progression

- It is a set of numbers where any two consecutive terms

have a common difference.

E.g.

2 4 6 8 10 12 14


So etong set of numbers na to ay may common difference ng

2 as (4-2 = 2), (12-10 = 2), (8-6 = 2), etc.

So all consecutive terms ay may common difference ng two.

BTW, ano ba ang 'TERMS' pagdating sa arithmetic

progression. Well, eto yun place value ng bawat set of

numbers...

In case dun sa example above,

1st term ng series is 2
Fourth term ng series is 8
Sixth term ng series is 12 and so on.

So alam nyo na rin ang TERM na tinutukoy ko dito.

Gagamitin kasi natin ang terminology na yan sa problem

solving natin.

II. Problem arise with Arithmetic Progression:

- Kalimitan ang problem na may kinalaman sa arithmetic

progression ay kung pang ilan terms si ganito or kung

anong value given ng term sa problem. Pwede rin sila mag

bigay ng "Sum of first five terms of this series" or

alike.

Gamitin natin ang set of example given above:

For example, the problem is:

"The second term of the given arithmetic progression

series is 4 and the fifth term is 10. What is the value

of fourth term?

So kung iaanalyze natin ang given problem, then it could

be like this

x 4 x ? 10

Baka sabihin nyo madali lang hulaan yan, well sa problem

given ko syempre madali lang yan. Pero mag eexpect ka ba

ng ganyan kadali sa exam? kahit tawagin mo ang ilang

santo, hindi ka makakaencounter ng ganyan kadali na

series. Take note na rin, ginawa ko na rin guide yun

given example ko na binigay sa itaas para makapag come up

ng ganyan problem.


III. How to solve the problem:

Conventional way

- Kung high school ka pa lang at binabasa mo to, sorry to

say at hindi kita matuturuan sa kung ano anong formula na

dapat gamitin. Normally, pag kailangan ng solution sa

ganitong problem, kailangan muna malaman kung ano ang

common difference (d) sa given arithmetic progression.

Eto yun mga formula para sa arithmetic progression

an = a1 + (n – 1)d

where

a - value
n - term
a1 - value of first term
d - common difference

So using that formula, you have to extract equations para

makuha mo ang common difference (d). Then pagnakuha mo

na, masosolve mo na ang problem.

Oooops, kung gagawin mo yan sa isang exam where the time

is most valuable i.e. licensure exam then this will be

ineefficient to solve. Baka maglaan ka pa ng 15 mins para

masolve mo to para lang sa 2 points. Tendency pa nyan,

iiskip mo tong problem na to para makahanap pa na mas

madali na questions. Samantala pag calculator lang gamit

mo masosolve mo to ng napakadali.... Paano?

Using calculator:

Sa paggamit ng calculator, though madali lang ang

procedure kailangan pa rin ng konti pag aanalyze...

So ganito ang procedure:

1. Iset as matrix yun given value vs sa given term

for the problem given:

I let x as Value and y as term...

So

x = 4
y = 2 (term)

X = 10
y = 5 (term)

The problem is:

x = ?
y = 4 (term)

Sa calculator..... MS: Go to MODE>>REG>>LIN (linear

regression)

Sa ES, same lang din naman ang procedure, ang pagkakaalam

ko lang instead na makita mo yun mode na LIN pag pinili

mo yun Regression ang makikita mo lang yun sign ng

linear. I think makikita mo ax+b=c (something like that

instead na LIN)....

Moving On...

After na makapasok ka sa Linear regression mode:

Eto po ang gagawin natin:

1. Input 4,2 then press M+. Mag pprompt dyan na n=1

denoting first input
2. Input 10,5 then press M+. Mag pprompt dyan na n=2

denoting second input.

Alam naman natin kung bakit 4,2 ahh dahil sa pag tabulate

natin, we represent x as value and y as term (4 - value,

2 - term) and so on.

3. Since ang nawawala sa pagtatabulate natin ay yun value

ng 4th term. Then yun ang next step natin:

Type 4X^ (di ko makita sa symbol yun x na meron ^ sa

ibabaw :)) )

kung MS makikita yan sa list ng Shift 2 (SVAR) under

linear regression... Sa ES im sure meron din yan...


So pagkatype mo ng 4X^ edi lalabas ang 8.... (viola!!!!!)


Tanong:

Pwede ba namin pagbaligtarin ang pagtatabulate. I.e. x =

term and y = value...

ANS: Pwedeng pwede, as long as hindi ka nalilito sa

pinagagawa mo ahh..... careful baka lalo ka pa mamali...

So paano yun;

x = 2
y = 4

x = 5
y = 10

so ang query:

x = 4
y = ?

so same procedure pa rin...

1. input 2,4 M+ and 5,10 M+
2. then type 4y^, you will arrive with same results which

is 8..

So no need to memorize the given formula... Basta ba may

given ka ng 2 values with 2 terms, masasagot mo na kung

anong value sa pang specific term or pang ilan term given

 the problem value....


try naman natin sa paghahanap ng pang ilan term

Same pa rin ang problem para hindi kayo mawala:

x = 2 (term)
y = 4

x = 5 (term)
y = 10

x = ? (term)
y = 8

so pang ilan term ang 8

same pa rin ang procedure:

1. 2,4 M+ and 5,10 M+
2. Since ang hinahanap ay term then we can type 8x^. The

result is 4 (term)


So kahit term pa ang hinahanap o value no problem yan

dito... Malalaman at malalaman natin yan basta ba bigyan

tayo ng 2 values in two terms.....


For summation of arithmetic progression?

dito ay 50-50.... why? depende kasi sa given problem.

Kung pinapahanap lang sayo ay sum of first 5 terms, or 10

terms ay pwedeng hanaping mo na lahat ng term and

manually na i sum mo sila... Pero kung ang pinapacompute

sayo eh sum of 50 terms, 100 terms so on... then hindi na

sya efficient for that....
