At least 32 local websites have been defaced early Monday, hours ahead of the massive protest against pork barrel in Luneta.

Visitors of the websites, most of which are hosted under gov.ph, instead saw an alternative screen and a message from hackers protesting the alleged misuse of public funds.

The group of hackers which calls itself the Anonymous Philippine Cyber Army pushed for the total abolition of pork barrel funds.

“We pursue our call for you to completely abolish the pork barrel system,” the message read, directly addressing President Benigno Aquino III.

This, as they noted that “pork barrel remains” despite Aquino’s move to abolish of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

“We appreciate the fact that you have now responded to the public clamor to abolish the PDAF,” the group said.

It noted, however, that the alternative funding system the President is floating will “leave money within the grasp of conniving and corrupt public officials.”

In a statement, DOST Information and Communications Technology Office Executive Director Louis Casambre  said “no critical online services were affected.”

He even noted that “it seems that it wasn’t the intention of the community to cripple critical information dissemination websites.”

The official nonetheless asked hackers not to target such websites, even as he stressed the need for secure web hosting for government agencies and services.

This “goes to shows the serious need for the Government Web Hosting Service especially since government websites will more and more be leveraged to deliver public services,” Casambre said.--with reports from Alora Uy-Guerrero

yeah, interesting... i'm really against PDAF but seeing how the hackers can easily hack gov't website is really disturbing kasi there are lots of critical and confidential information doon which means that hindi yun safe and be easily used against them.... this is another blow to the Philippine gov't.....
