Did not want to rile the mob, but I saw this yesterday while riding my bike around Manila.
I called some engineer and contractor friends to ask how much it costs to replace the Luneta Flagpole and I learned it should be around Php150,000.
In this billboard you will see our taxes will pay over Php7 million to replace that flagpole.
This is what the Luneta Million People March yesterday was all about, the culture of patronage and impunity we want abolished.

i've also read this on facebook, and it's really unbelievable..such prize for a Flagpole. I don't know the details of this project but from what i've read is that this Flag pole is Automatic and have to be bought outside the country, but still i don't believe that this technology is so special to be even considered buying and i'm pretty sure there are lots of Filipinos that can do this, just a proper funding and it will be done.

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, pero hindi eh. Sinulat nila flag pole replacement, so I'll take it as face value. 7.8 m for a flagpole replacement. Napaka galing.
Very good yung nag post nito, sana mag set ng precedent na picturan din ng picturan nung iba yung mga ganitong nakaka tawang billboard.

Double purpose kasi yang flagpole na yan mga brod. Pagkatapos kasi ng mga hearing, dyan rin bibigtihin sina Napoles and mga kasabwat nya. Sama na rin si Corona at GMA dyan pati yung mga hindot na customs officials.

Electronic daw yata kasi ang mechanism. Ang cool no? Usually yung mga kotche na sang katerba din ang mechanism at may computer box pa, kadalasan nasa 800k plus ang bihis na model.
Ano kayang mechanismo meron itong flagpole na ito, to be almost 8x the price of a sophisticated, highly complex, modern vehicle?
What's funny sa news is they defended na we needed a new flag. Of course we do, but that's not what we are talking about here.
I'd like them to defend the cost of that flag, and why such an exorbitant amount? If it really was reasonable, I see no problem with them telling the public why it is so.

and it's worth around 4m+ then the remaining budget will be used on the labor
deconstruction of the pole, & the cement around it and construction of the thing
add the bigger new flag that will me made for the new flagpole...

malaking flagpole cyempre malaki ring base kelangan....baka me 2 storey basement ung base. basement 1 for the mechanism of the flagpole, basement 2 para pahingahan ng mga guards......LOL!

Almost 15 storey bldg ung height ng pole. Without lateral support, so dapat ung matibay and stiff ung pole. Tapos may foundation pa un. Ung mechanism pa sa pag raise ng flag. So reasonable naman cguro un. And dumaan naman daw ata sa bidding ung project.

mga tol, just to put a bit of objectivity in our discussion, mayroon ba sa ating engineer na pwedeng pagtanungan ng cost estimate ng flagpole project? ako kasi, hindi engineer, kaya wala akong basehan para sabihin kung mahal, mura or tama lang ang project cost. puro kasi speculation ang nangyayari e. hindi naman siguro tamang husgahan ang isang bagay kung hindi natin domain expertise ito, di ba? hindi naman sigurong tama na magtanong ng price estimate ng isang building project sa isang doctor, di ba?
alam ba natin kung ano ang bill of materials, kung ano ang construction methods/techiniques/machinery na gagamitin nila, kung ano ang mga nilagay ng mga engineer sa structure ng flagpole para tumagal ito ? parang engineer lang yata ang makakasagot nito.
