That’s the canvas of choice of Ioana Vinc, a Romanian architect who likes to take a break from designing buildings by arranging tiny food items on a spoon. It’s some impressive work: looking at Kermit the (Spoon) Frog, you can hardly tell it apart from original.

Vinc’s secret? Using big spoons! Well, regular big spoons, not novelty jaw destroyers. It’s part of her passion for creating art using everyday objects. In this case, extremely small bits of everyday objects.

"I am a doctor and an amateur food artist. Creating cute food art is my hobby. Even though my schedule is quite hectic, I always find times to do what I really love. One day I just wanted to cook lunch for myself and I saw pics of cute bento made by Asian mommies on Instagram. This inspired me to try make one by myself. I made my first character lunchbox with panda family rice balls and curry and I found out that I felt so much fun and happiness while making it, so I continued this hobby and collected the pictures of my creations.
I also make different kind of creations, including mashed potato art, toast art, steamed cake art, Japanese glutinous dumplings (shiratama) and some food art tutorials. Here are some pictures of my edible arts. Hope they can put a smile on your face :)"

A new store was recently opened in Tokyo : the Ameshin. This shop proposes traditional Japanese candies called “amezaiku”. These sweets exist since the 8th century in the Japanese culture, where they were offered as edible gifts in temples or during the charity. The owner of the store, Shinri Tezuka, creates lollipops shaped like fish, frogs and other animals, with a mixture of sugar sirup and starch that he paints after. Kotoba no Haoto (or "The Buzz of Words") is a Japanese cafe that understands the appeal of cat culture. That's why they've created their very own cat parfait, which is as adorable as it is delicious! Once they're done creating the base of the dessert, that's when things get feline-friendly. The cafe tops off their delectable dessert by adding at least one pudgy ball of ice cream and decorating it with chocolate ears, paws, eyes, whiskers, and a perfectly plump nose. Each treat includes vibrant, seasonal fruit and additional accessories during the holidays, including a strawberry Santa hat!

While the cat parfaits are enough to draw in delighted diners, Kotoba no Haoto also allows customers to experience the history of Japan. The cafe is housed in a machiya: a traditional, wooden townhouse that evokes the spirit of old Japan. Inside, visitors sit on tatami mat floors and dine upon low tables. There are also plenty of books for them to peruse when they're done looking at all the cat-themed decorations that surround them.

If you're ever in the city of Kyoto, definitely take a trip to this cafe—for both the cat parfaits and the culture! However, you should note that the 1,200 yen ($10.57) parfaits start selling at 1pm and sell out shortly after, since only 15 servings are made each day. In other words, make sure to get there early for these tempting treats!

"Mosaic sushi" is the latest trend in Japan right now, but you don't need to like raw fish to enjoy it. All you need is an appreciation for art, because as you can see from the pictures below, that's exactly what it is.
The concept couldn't be simpler. Put some pieces of sushi together in a square and voila, you've got mosaic sushi. Simple, yes, but also totally mesmerizing. In fact, it sort of makes normal sushi look too, well, normal. Let's just hope it goes international soon. In the meantime, we're packing our bags for Japan. Again.
