Argentina's Carlos Monzon was born on this day in 1942.
The great middleweight's life was shrouded in violence and glamour and ended suddenly in a car accident in 1995.

Report :

Anderson Silva: I Have No Respect for 'Papa Smurf' Floyd Mayweather

Looks like former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a bone to pick with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

" Boxers have the great story. I respect for boxing . Floyd Mayweather ? I don 't know this guy . Is he Papa Smurf ? Mayweather is good boxing .This is my opinion . The guy no respect me. I respect all the guys in the world. Mayweather is a part of this story in the world .
I'm part of the sport in the world. Mayweather need to respect this , but this guy no respect nothing . Sorry, but I no respect Mayweather . "

The latest news should come as no surprise, considering Mayweather said he didn't know who "The Spider" is in an interview with EsNews last month.

Despite a disappointing knockout loss at the hands of new 185-pound kingpin Chris Weidman at UFC 162 last month, many still consider the Brazilian knockout artist the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

Prior to the loss, Silva had won an incredible 17 straight bouts, 16 of which occurred inside the Octagon, also setting the UFC middleweight record of 10 consecutive successful title defenses.

While naysayers have knocked the 38-year-old's strength of competition during that roughly seven-year time frame, Silva notched stoppage wins over the likes of Rich Franklin (twice), Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen (twice), Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort.

Silva will have a chance to avenge the devastating loss to "The All-American" at UFC 168, with the rematch set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 28.

Conversely, the 36-year-old Mayweather has been going strong inside the ring since October of 1996 and is a five-division world champion with an incredible 44-0 professional record.

His next challenge will be light middleweight stud Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who boasts a 42-0-1 record of his own despite being just 23 years old.

Alvarez's WBC and The Ring light middleweight titles will be on the line, while Mayweather will defend his WBA (super) light middleweight strap.

That showdown also takes place at the MGM Grand and is just a couple weeks away, with the event set for Sept. 14.

nope.

BOB ARUM is the answer. Money didn't want to do business with arum. Remember, Money even phoned Manny to fight him and he assured Manny will get 40m. Even Manny told the media that this is true.
Mayweather wanted Manny to be under his promotions first before the fight will be negotiated..

And Arum won't allow it..

hayys,,- as expected,,boring ung match

i do agree with the judges ,,IMO kay bradley talaga un,,marquez wasn't able to show his A-game, maybe he's playing safe or tumatanda na lang talaga? or maybe napaghandaan talaga ni bradley yung fight plan niya..

Manny must win on his fight with Rios then rematch sila ni bradley,,then Mayweather na or magretire na lang ;D

When the fight started, I grab my pen and a piece of paper and try to score the bout. At gaya ng isang judge sa laban, I scored the fight 115-113 in favor of the brass American.

So maybe a rematch with Pacman (if the Filipino boxing icon beat Brandon Rios come November) shall be work out by Bob Arum.

Sans Roach, Pinoy trainer guides Russian boxer to world title

MANILA, Philippines – No Freddie Roach for world title challenger Ruslan Provodnikov. No problem.

Assistant trainer Marvin Somodio is there to save the day.

Somodio stepped up big time in the absence of Roach, helping work the corner of Provodnikov en route to a 10th-round technical knockout victory over Mike Alvarado for the WBO light welterweight title at the 1stBank Center in Denver, Colorado on Sunday.

Somodio, a former boxer, took over Provodnikov’s corner because Roach is in Manila to train Manny Pacquiao for the Filipino icon’s fight with Brando Rios next month.

And he didn’t disappoint.

In a post-fight report by ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, Somodio did a great job on Provodnikov by helping the Russian stick to Roach’s game plan. Provodnikov decked Alvarado twice in the eighth round then battered the latter in the 10th round to force the stoppage.

It was Provodnikov’s first world championship title, which he clinched after a failed attempt at the WBO welterweight crown against Timothy Bradley last March. And he copped it in Alvarado’s hometown in front of a crowd of least 7,000.

"Even though Freddie wasn't here, they knew the game plan," said promoter Artie Pelullo, who represents Provodnikov.

Provodnikov, for his part, echoed his promoter’s statement.

"I knew that I had to win it for Freddie," Provodnikov said. "Not having him here, I miss him, but we did his game plan exactly."

In an earlier report by philboxing.com’s Rich Mazon, Somodio earlier expressed confidence in handling Provodnikov in the big stage without Roach.

“I am confident for this fight. Madami na din ako experience sa corner. (I have acquired plenty of experience in the corner.) And actually, Ruslan was my first fighter whom I have worked with here in the US,” said Somodio, who has been in the US since 2012 to assist Roach.

He was also in the camp of Miguel Cotto during the latter’s preparation for his fight with Delvin Rodriguez.

Pacquiao training 'like a 20-year-old'

GENERAL SANTOS - Philippine boxing hero Manny Pacquiao says he is furiously training like a 20-year-old to break a losing streak and re-establish his reputation as one of the world's best fighters.

Pacquiao also said his match against American Brandon Rios in the Chinese territory of Macau next month would be "a good window" to promote boxing in China, and that he felt honoured to take part in the landmark bout.

"This training camp, I believe, is one of the longest preparations in my boxing career. I trained early because I want to prove that I can still fight in the top (tier) of boxing," he told reporters late Wednesday in his home town of General Santos in the southern Philippines.

"This time my preparation is more serious, more focused. My mind is like when I was 20 years old."

A former champion in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, Pacquiao, who turns 35 in December, is seeking to come back from two consecutive defeats which have led supporters to question if he should hang up his gloves.

He lost a controversial split decision to American Timothy Bradley in June last year, then suffered a sixth-round knockout to Mexican arch rival Juan Manuel Marquez six months later.

Pacquiao said he had come to terms with his shock defeat to Marquez, reasoning that losing was inevitable during a long sporting career.

"I don't think I had a mistake in that fight. If you look back... I had 100 percent conditioning, aggressiveness. That (defeat) is part of boxing. I accept 100 percent what happened in the last fight," he said.

While he had done light training earlier, Pacquiao formally opened his training camp in General Santos last month.

His training to meet Rios, for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title, has largely been behind closed doors.

This is in contrast to many of his previous training camps, where journalists, celebrities and other guests have dropped by to pose with the boxer.

Critics have previously questioned whether Pacquiao's diminishing prowess in the ring was because he had become distracted by his many other endeavors.

His boxing fame helped him to launch a successful political career in the Philippines, and he is now a second-term congressman with ambitions of eventually becoming president.

Pacquiao, who through the peak of his career fought almost exclusively in the United States, appeared excited at the prospect of raising the sport's profile in the world's most populous nation.

"This is a good window for the people of China to have the opportunity to watch the big fight live. This is also a good window to promote boxing in China," he said.

TALE OF THE TAPE: Pacman ready for whatever Rios brings to ring, says Roach

MACAU – Whether he runs, hides, or swings back, trainer Freddie Roach said Manny Pacquiao is prepared for whatever Brandon Rios brings to the table on Sunday afternoon.

“We have our plan and we have no problem,” said Roach, relaxed and smiling a lot on the eve of the first ever fight the Filipino ring star will be holding in the entertainment capital of Asia.

While many believed Rios, 27, is going to box his way against one of the hardest hitting punchers in boxing history, Roach thinks otherwise.

A known slugger, the American fighter, according to Roach, will be tempted to exchange with Pacquiao once he feels the power of the former eight-time world champion.

“I felt that once Manny hits him, he will revert back to what he is, and he will swing back,” said the five-time Trainer of the Year, who sports a Nike white-shirt that has the words `Hope: Together We Rise’ prominently printed at the front.

And neither will Pacquiao have a problem once Rios starts backpedalling, with Roach pointing out that the tough-talking fighter from Oxnard, California is not trained to run.

“I don’t think he can run that well because he’s not fast. I expect him to move away and land into the ropes and suck Manny into the ropes. We are well-prepared for that,” said Pacquiao’s longtime trainer.

“He might land in the ropes and move a little bit, but he doesn’t have the tools to really run, to move. He’s not a sleek boxer. He never has been.”

Aware that all bases are well-covered, Roach is sticking to his earlier forecast that Rios will be ripe for the picking before the midway point of the 12-round welterweight bout.

“Six or less,” said the 53-year-old trainer before walking away.

Di sya nagmamadali and that's good for him , dahil the entire bout e lamang sya .

WBC Names Manny Pacquiao Top Challenger to Floyd Mayweather, Could Force Mega-Bout

It's rare to have something nice to say about boxing's sanctioning bodies, but the WBC may have taken a bold step forward in making the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao mega-bout a reality by naming Pacquiao the no. 1 contender to Mayweather's WBC welterweight title.

The Mexico City-based organization recently issued their updated ratings with the previously unranked Filipino icon at no.1 and previous top two, Luis Abregu and Amir Khan, dropping to no. 2 and 3, respectively.

Presumably, the placement was based on Pacquiao's dominant one-sided decision victory over Brandon Rios on November 23 in Macau, China. However, if one were inclined to do a bit of reading between the lines, the move could've been done to force the issue when it comes to putting together a Mayweather-Pacquiao clash.

Far from altruistic, the WBC would be more than eager to sanction boxing's biggest bout ever and collect the 3% sanctioning fee from the highest combined purse in the sport's history. It may also be a move to dissuade Pacquiao from choosing a revenge bout with WBO welterweight champ, Timothy Bradley for his scheduled April 12 return date in Las Vegas.

Whatever the case, the move puts Team Mayweather in a bit of a bind.

With Pacquiao as his new mandatory challenger, Mayweather will have to eventually face Pacquiao or relinquish the most cherished belt in his possession. The five-division world champ has been WBC welterweight champ or WBC welterweight champion emeritus for much of the last seven years and has favored the organization throughout his career. As a top earner, Mayweather has also been allowed to come and go as he pleases by the WBC, always welcomed back to champion status at his discretion and on his own schedule.

Maybe this time, though, things will be different.

In addition to the WBC welterweight title, Mayweather also holds the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles. However, it's understood that Mayweather would rather compete at the more comfortable welterweight limit. And given that the other sanction bodies are sporting champions that may not make for realistic opponents for Mayweather, "Money" may have to follow the WBC's rules if he wants to keep his status as a welterweight world title holder.

On the other hand, Mayweather has never been one to allow a sanctioning body to dictate his career plans and is big enough to simply give up the belt if he decides that the Pacquiao bout couldn't or shouldn't be made.

All of this, of course, is assuming that the WBC doesn't bend over backwards to accommodate both superstars by creating two separate, bogus titles.

Another thing to consider with this move is that, at some point, the WBC will mandate Mayweather-Pacquiao and, assuming that Mayweather doesn't vacate and that both parties still can't negotiate with one another, the fight will be put up to a purse bid. This means that any promoter, anywhere, could win the right to bypass both Top Rank and Mayweather Promotions to stage this mega-bout. If this happens, the ugliness of warring Arum and Mayweather factions would be a relative non-issue as someone else could swoop right in and handle all of the business details.

Before getting too excited, though, a lot still has to happen before Mayweather and Pacquiao are shamed into the same ring. We'd have to see a Pacquiao willing to stay away from winning another world title and stay within the WBC boundaries for the time being. We'd also have to see a Mayweather willing to stay at welterweight and allow the WBC to dictate his future career choices.

Yes, Mayweather-Pacquiao is still a long shot, but the WBC has made things a bit easier with their recent rankings change. As the old saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Brandon Rios tests positive for banned substance following loss to Manny Pacquiao

Brandon Rios tested positive for a banned substance following his Nov. 23 loss to Manny Pacquiao in Macau, but vehemently denied taking any illegal substances in a 20-minute telephone conversation with Yahoo Sports on Friday.
In a story first reported by RingTV.com, Rios tested positive for dimenthylamylamine in his post-fight urinalysis. Rios lost a wide unanimous decision to Pacquiao in the welterweight bout at the Venetian Macao.

Pacquiao and Rios were randomly tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Pacquiao passed all tests given by VADA. Rios passed the first four but failed the final test.

Dimenthylamylamine, commonly known as DMAA, is a stimulant banned by both VADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

It is found in the over-the-counter fitness supplement Jack3d. Rios said he took Jack3d many years ago when he was starting his career, but said his trainer, Robert Garcia, told him he did not need it and to stop taking it. He said he never took it again.

In April, the Food & Drug Administration warned consumers about taking DMAA. It said that as of April 11, it had received 86 reports of illness or death associated with supplements containing DMAA.

According to the warning on the FDA's website, DMAA is "most commonly used in supplements promising weight loss, muscle building and performance enhancement; it can elevate blood pressure and could lead to cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, shortness of breath and tightening of the chest."

Rios was adamant that he never took anything that is banned, and he said he asked questions of conditioning coach Alex Ariza before ingesting anything he did not know.

"Like I told you man, I know I'm not dirty; I'm not a dirty fighter," Rios said. "If they want to test me 24-7, day and night, day and night, they could test me all they want. I know I don't take no steroids. I don't take no drugs. I don't take no diet supplements or [expletive] like that. The way I fight, I'm all natural. I'm a strong [expletive].

"I take a punch very well. When I lose weight ... this is the first time I've lost weight the right way. I followed a diet plan and I had an actual nutritionist."

Rios questioned the collection procedures of the final test, which came after the fight. Following the fight, he had to give two samples. The first went to the Chinese boxing commission, and he did that in his locker room. But he said after urinating the first time, he had nothing left to give for the VADA collector who came in later.

A collector for VADA followed him to his room, he said. But Rios said the collector, whom he did not know and described as "I think maybe a Russian guy" was not prepared to properly collect his urine.

Dr. Margaret Goodman, who founded VADA, said via email she was unable to speak to a reporter. However, she wrote VADA used IDTM, a highly recognized collection agency, to take Rios' samples when he was in Macau.

But Rios said things weren't right with the final test. The collector did not bring a sealed collection kit with him to his suite, Rios said. Normally, he said, when VADA wanted to collect a sample from him, the agent had him choose a sealed collection kit. That kit contained a container to urinate in and two bottles, one which was to be used as the A sample and the second that was the B sample. Rios was to urinate in the large container, then move part of it into the A bottle and part into the B bottle.

But he said the collector who came to his room after the fight wasn't prepared and didn't have a kit. Rios said he was drinking water in order to be able to urinate, and then suddenly had to do so. When he couldn't wait any longer, Rios said the collector told him to urinate in a glass that was in the room.

More than 20 minutes later, he said, a kit was delivered to his room and in front of the agent, Rios transferred the urine from the glass to the cup and into the two bottles he removed from the kit.

"This time, he had me [urinate] in a regular glass, and a lot of [expletives] touched [it]," Rios said. "A lot of people touched that [glass] and put [expletive] in it. They just washed it with dish wash, or whatever they do it with. That's why I'm suspicious, because they had me [urinate] in a regular [glass], not one of the containers like they always had me do before.

"I had to wait 20 minutes [for someone to bring a sealed collection kit] and my [urine] wasn't even warm no more. It was cold."

He was also wary of the positive test because the sample he gave to the representative for the Chinese commission in the locker room did not test positive.

Additionally, Rios said he was suspicious that after passing numerous tests, he failed a test only after an incident between Alex Ariza, his conditioning coach, and Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach had occurred earlier in the week.

Asked if he thought someone on Team Pacquiao had something to do with the positive test, he said, "I'm not going to sit here and point and blame nobody." But he said he found it odd the positive test came after the incident.

"I passed all of those other tests and all of a sudden, the last time, the last one, after we had that incident, then that's when we tested positive," Rios said.

Top Rank president Todd duBoef said he was aware of the positive test, but had little to say.

"There is not much I can say because I don't know a lot about it, but it is very disappointing to hear of this," duBoef said.

The sanctioning body, the WBO, served as the commission for the bout in China, so it is unclear if it can penalize Rios for failing the post-fight test. Tim Lueckenhoff, the president of the Association of Boxing Commissions, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Marcos Maidana Solves the Problem ; Beats Adrien Broner by Unanimous Decision

Coming into their fight, Marcos Maidana swore that Adrien Broner had never seen anyone like him before in a boxing ring.

Well he has now, and all he got for his troubles was his first loss.

Maidana (35-3, 31 KO) swarmed Broner from the outset, dropping him in the second and eighth rounds, to key himself to a stunning unanimous decision win and the WBA Welterweight Championship.

Scores were 115-110, 116-109 and 117-109.

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO, the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion, wants the WBC title after his brother, Vitali, vacated it in order to concentrate on his political career . Should Wladimir achieve his aim he will become the first heavyweight in history to hold all four belts at the same time.

Klitschko told German newspaper Bild:

Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan and Four Other Fights That Shouldn’t Happen in 2014

COMMENTARY | While the boxing world is looking ahead to a promising 2014 and putting together wishlists full of dream fights, some of us believe in addition by subtraction and are crossing our fingers that certain rumored bouts don't get made.

Here's a list of five fights that could help ruin the coming year and, therefore, should never see the light of day:

Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan

Mayweather is the best fighter in the world. Amir Khan, on the other hand, may not even be one of the fifteen best welterweights at the moment. The physically gifted Brit was once a top prospect and considered a main stage player at junior welterweight, but has completely fallen apart in recent years and hasn't looked even marginally impressive in quite some time. Some would even say that the former Olympian has looked psychologically damaged and scared stiff in recent outings. Worst of all, if this mismatch is actually signed, it would prevent Mayweather from receiving a challenge from fighters who deserve the chance and would actually give their all in pursuit of the upset.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

It's not that Pacquiao and Marquez don't make for compelling encounters. A fifth meeting between the two would probably be an entertaining bout, but why bother at this point? Marquez seems set on closing the Pacquiao chapter in his career after his face-first knockout of the Filipino legend last December. Pacquiao and his people could also rest comfortably if a fifth bout is not made, claiming the series win with an official 2-1-1 record in four encounters. The 35-year-old Pacquiao and 40-year-old Marquez, both with limited time left in the sport, should move on to new challenges in the coming year.

Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov

Hopkins will be 49 years of age by the time he makes the next defense of his IBF light heavyweight title and even the biggest B-Hop supporters have to understand that, at this point, the ageless wonder is more cleanup crew than road paver. Hopkins continues to win because he preys on the technical and tactical errors of young, inexperienced fighters. It should also be understood that Hopkins' run is only worth continuing if he continues to face the best in his division. His dominant win over Karo Murat earlier this year did little for Hopkins or the sport and a bout with the shamefully inactive WBA champ, Shumenov, would only be slightly less pointless. For Hopkins, the targets should be Stevenson, Kovalev, or retirement.

Saul Alvarez vs. Carlos Molina

It's not that IBF junior middleweight champ, Molina, doesn't deserve a big payday and a chance to knock Alvarez off his huge golden pedestal, it's just that his pairing with the young Mexican star would mean that bigger, better bouts weren't able to be made. Alvarez-Molina would mean that entertaining fights like Alvarez-Cotto and Alvarez-Kirkland couldn't be made and that Alvarez's path to post-Mayweather redemption will take much longer than anticipated.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alex Leapai

Australian slugger, Leapai somehow became the WBO's no. 1 contender to Wladimir Klitschko by scoring an upset over inactive Denis Boystov in November. Despite the underdog drama and "Rocky" feel to Klitschko-Leapai, expect nothing but a sloppy, one-sided farce of a bout. Believe it or not, there are some potentially compelling match-ups available to the three-belt heavyweight kingpin, but the journeyman-level Leapai is no match for Klitschko and this fight, really, would be nothing more than a waste of everyone's time.

Luis Collazo targets Floyd Mayweather after ruining Victor Ortiz

LUIS COLLAZO notched his finest win while administering disaster to
Victor Ortiz in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Thursday night. The
perennial bridesmaid was expecting to play second fiddle again to comebacking Ortiz but flattened the favourite inside two rounds.Collazo,an elegant boxer seemingly lacking a punch, made a mockery of his reputation when he timed the bullish Ortiz with a short right hand and clattered follow-ups onto his rival’s face. Ortiz turned his back, sank to his knees, and took the full count.

“This fight was my future.” Now with this win I’ve opened up my future. I want what the fans want. I want Floyd Mayweather Jnr . I want him to come to the Barclays Center here in Brooklyn.”

Grammy winner Ashanti to sing national anthem at Pacquiao-Bradley II

MANILA, Philippines - Grammy Award- winning singer/ songwriter, actor and author Ashanti will sing the American national anthem at the rematch between
WBO welterweight titleholder Timothy Bradley and eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, according
to a Top Rank press release.

Ashanti burst onto the music scene with her self-titled debut album “Ashanti” in 2002, earning a No. 1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts
after selling 504,593 units in its first week. Her first week showing set a SoundScan record as the most albums sold by any debut female artist in the
chart’s history, granting her a spot in Guinness Book of World Records.

"I'm such a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao! I have family in the boxing business -(1976 Olympic gold medalist) Howard Davis, Jr. and (light heavyweight contender) Dyah Davis," said Ashanti.
"When I found out we were sitting next to each other courtside at the Knicks game, I said to my Dad, 'We should take a picture!' I told Manny I was a big fan and
was so excited when he asked me to sing the National Anthem at his upcoming fight and I can't wait. I actually love boxing! Manny's such a champion and I
can't wait to cheer him on!"

Note :

Ashanti reportedly has Filipino roots on her father's side, who is said to be of mixed ethnicity. The R&B singer's mother, on the other hand, is reportedly of African-American and Puerto Rican descent.

Brian Viloria returns from yearlong absence to decision Juan Herrera

MANILA, Philippines – Former two-division titleholder Brian Viloria made his first ring appearance in nearly a year on Saturday, winning a unanimous decision over Puerto Rican journeyman Juan Herrera at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas.

The scores were 98-92 on two scorecards, while the third tallied the bout 97-93, all for
the 2000 Olympic silver medalist Viloria (33-4, 19 knockouts) of Waipahu, Hawaii. Herrera (9-8, 4 KOs) lost his second straight fight.

Viloria, who had previously won titles at 108 and 112 pounds, used his jab effectively to control the awkward Herrera, but seemed
content to land one punch at a time, to limited effect. Herrera was able to land punches from
time to time, but lacked the power to hurt Viloria.

Viloria, 33, was fighting for the first time since losing his WBA and WBO flyweight belts to
Juan Francisco Estrada last April by split decision. He will return to the scene of that
loss on May 31, when he faces an opponent to be named at the Venetian Resort in Macau, on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire Jr.- Simpiwe Vetyeka WBA featherweight title fight.

“I’ve discussed our ‘wish list’ with Bob [Arum], but nothing is yet locked in,” Viloria’s manager, Gary Gittelsohn, told RingTV.com.
“We all want a meaningful fight for the Macau card.”

In the main event, junior lightweight Alejandro Perez (19-4-1, 13 KOs) dropped a split decision to Mexican journeyman Juan Carlos Martinez (20-14-1, 7 KOs)

Martinez hadn't fought for nearly two years, but counts upset wins over Bernabe Concepcion and Jason Litzau-conqueror Jose Andres Hernandez among his accomplishments

Perez had overcome losses to Rico Ramos and Diego Magdaleno to defeat Art Hovhannisyan en route to four straight victories.

Manny Pacquiao agrees to extension with Top Rank through 2016

Manny Pacquiao signed a contract extension with Top Rank on Tuesday that will likely keep him with the promotional company of the remainder of his illustrious career.

The deal that Pacquiao signed will take him through Dec. 31, 2016, when he will be 38 years old. Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told Yahoo Sports that the contract will continue "as usual," meaning two fights a year, including one in the spring and one in the fall.

Pacquiao plans next to fight in November in Macau, China. Juan Manuel Marquez, coming off of a big win over Mike Alvarado on Saturday, will be offered the fight. If he declines, Top Rank plans to pursue Ruslan Provodnikov.

"These guys are like family to me," Arum said. "We had discussed this for a while and I was always sure it would get done. Now that it's been signed and is formally signed, it puts a wrap on it and it feels good to know we'll be together for another two years."

Arum said he remained open to making a fight with pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and said the contract with Pacquiao does not preclude it. He said if the fight occurs before the end of 2015, it could be on both Showtime and HBO, as was the 2002 pay-per-view match between Mike Tyson, who was then exclusively with Showtime, and Lennox Lewis, who was exclusively with HBO.

Mayweather is under contract with Showtime and has three more fights remaining on the six-fight deal he signed with the company in 2013.

"I'm not going to worry about something I can't bring to bear," Arum said of a potential Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. "We want to fight him and we're willing to discuss it at any point. There are two ways to go here. One is to do a Mayweather fight with both HBO and Showtime involved, as they did with Lewis-Tyson, as I understand Mayweather is under contract to Showtime through 2015. The companies could come together and put on the show.

"Or, the other alternative is, if Floyd wanted to fight Manny in 2016, he could return to HBO and we could do it there."

A difficulty making the fight obviously is the relationship between Arum and Mayweather and Arum and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who has repeatedly said he will no longer do business with Arum. Mayweather has worked with Golden Boy exclusivley since 2007, but said he is loyal to Schaefer and not the company.

There is a rift between Schaefer and Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya, which could result in two separate companies. Arum recently mended fences with De La Hoya.

"I could work very easily with Oscar and we could put on fights together with guys who are under contract to him and Golden Boy," Arum said. "I never said I wouldn't deal with Schaefer; he said he wouldn't work with me. But that's one guy. One. I can work with Oscar no problem."

As an example, Arum said that if it turns out that Amir Khan winds up under contract to Golden Boy run by De La Hoya, Khan could be a possibility for a Pacquiao opponent as soon as this year.

Donaire defeats Vetyeka by
controversial technical decision

Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KO’s) defeated WBA Super World featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-3, 16 KO’s) by a very controversial 4 round technical decision on Saturday night at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao,Macao S.A.R., China. Donaire suffered a cut in the 1st round from what appeared to be a right hand that that clipped him while he was trying to move out of range. Donaire complained that he couldn’t see out of the cut and this eventually resulted in the fight being stopped.

They said it was from a head-butt. However, there was no clash of heads. Instead of a head clash, Donaire was nailed by a right hand on his left eye and this caused him to go down.
In slow motion replay it shows that Donaire was cut from a punch rather than a head clash, so the referee blew the call in saying it was from a head clash. If he had ruled it
correctly than Vetyeka would have won the fight because Donaire wouldn’t have been able to continue. So in other words, Vetyeka got jobbed in this fight.

Donaire knocked Vetyeka down with a left hook in the 4th round. The shot caught
Vetyeka when he was bent forward to where he didn’t see the shot. However, he wasn’t hurt from the punch and he continued to fight back.

The final judges scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 40-36.

What’s interesting about this fight is that it was allowed to go long enough for it to be an
official fight when it could have been stopped in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. But instead of was permitted to go just long enough for it to be official so that a decision could be rendered.

After the fight, Donaire said “I’m going to give Vetyeka a rematch because I don’t want to win like this.”

The fight was still very much in doubt as Vetyeka was still catching Donaire with shots
in the 4th round. The way the fight was going, I think Vetyeka was going to beat Donaire
because he had no problems landing his shots and he seemed the more comfortable fighter in there. Donaire was landing an occasional big
shot, but he was getting nailed a lot and it just looked like it was only going to be a matter of time before Vetyeka got to Donaire.

Donaire Jr defeats Vetyeka, wins featherweight title

MACAU – From the opening bell, Nonito Donaire Jr. looked intent to silence every detractor who had said he was not the in-ring executioner he was in the lower weights. He promised to be more versatile against IBF featherweight titleholder Simpiwe Vetyeka when they met on Saturday, May 31 at the Venetian Resort in Macau, and he was, landing jabs and overhand rights while not relying as much on his trademark left hooks.

And then all hell broke out.

A heartbeat after the bell for the first round rang, Donaire sank to the floor with blood streaming from his left eye. Donaire complained to referee Luis Pabon who seemed as overwhelmed by the situation as any professional could’ve been.

If he stopped the fight there, the main event at the Venetian Macau would’ve ended in an accidental foul technical draw, a most unsavory ending in an emerging boxing market still trying to establish itself.

Pabon did what he felt to be the right thing – he let the fight continue until one second into the fifth round, enacting the technical decision rule that allowed a fight to be decided prematurely.

That was just enough time for Donaire to separate himself on the scorecards from Vetyeka, who was making the first defense of the title he won with a sixth round technical knockout of Chris John in December.

Donaire weathered several damaging headbutts in round two before dropping wobbling Vetyeka with an overhand right in the third stanza. Donaire then put his biggest imprint on the fight in round four, dropping the South African Vetyeka with a left hook halfway into the round.

Vetyeka, 33, remained wily and survived but was hurt with another big left hook near the end of the fourth round. With blood streaming down his face, the end was nigh for Donaire and the referee knew it.

The fight was stopped and the referee collected the scorecards, all three of which read 49-46 for Donaire Jr., who wins his fifth world title in as many weight classes, earning him entry into an exclusive club that includes Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard.

Still, the unsavory, inconclusive ending leaves a bitter taste in Donaire's mouth which isn't blood.

"I got head butted in the first round, the referee wanted to stop it," said Donaire, who improves to 33-2 (21 knockouts). "He asked if I could see, I said I couldn’t see. He said 'should I stop it' and I didn’t want to stop it. I knew I didn’t have much time to do what I wanted to do in the fight.

"I couldn’t see on the right side, it was blurring. I couldn’t see his right hand where his power comes from. After the fourth round I couldn’t go any further."

"I promised I'd give him a rematch, it's an unfinished victory."

Vetyeka, 33, says he doesn't believe the cut was caused by a headbutt but rather a punch, which would've ended the fight by TKO in his favor. Vetyeka hangs onto hope that Donaire comes through with his promise for a rematch.

"He promised me a rematch and I hope that we get that," said Vetyeka (26-3, 16 KOs).

Bob Arum, who promoted the event under his Top Rank company, said a rematch between Donaire and Vetyeka would be his first priority before any other Donaire fights could be considered.

"You don’t like to see a fight end early but he’s the champion and he’s a real man and he said he didn’t like to win the title that way so he’s going to give the South African kid a rematch," said Arum.

Arum said that, if Manny Pacquiao's November 23 date ends up in Macau, he would consider hosting the rematch on that undercard. If that happened, it'd be the first time the two best Filipino fighters of this generation fought on the same card.

"I think if Pacquiao fight ends up here, why wouldn’t we add that to the card in addition to Zou Shiming’s title fight plus another fight. It’d be one of the greatest cards that they’re not going to top for years, no matter what happens with boxing in Asia."

Manny Pacquiao is longest reigning fighter in RING’s P4P list (http://kickerdaily.com/manny-pacquiao-is-longest-reigning-fighter-in-rings-p4p-list/)

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacman Pacquiao continues to make the Philippines proud even when he is not actually fighting in the boxing ring.

According to reports, the eight-division boxing champion Pacquiao is currently the longest reigning fighter in RING Magazine’s mythical pound-for-pound list, which values a boxer’s standing in relation to fighters of different weight classes.

The Ring Magazine said Pacquiao has been among the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters for 548 weeks, roughly over 10 years. In the current ranking of the pound for pound list, the congressman from the lone district of Sarangani is listed as the 4th best fighter in the world behind Floyd Mayweather Jr., Andre Ward and Wladimir Klitschko.

Taking the second spot as the longest reigning fighter in RING’s P4P list is ironically Pacquiao’s nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez, who knocked out Pacquiao in 2012, has been on the list for 373 weeks (7 years).

The controversial Mayweather is on the top 10 for 141 weeks.

Mayweather has been on the list since 2007, but dropped out of the ranking after he took a brief retirement from professional boxing following his split decision win over Oscar de la Hoya.

Being ranked in the pound for pound list in Ring Magazine is a huge honor since the magazine is considered as the the bible of boxing. The Ring Magazine ranked the boxers based on the boxers’ most recent victories, performances, and track record, including the quality of opposition they have faced.

Aside from being one of the top boxers in the world today, the Forbes magazine has also recently declared Pacquiao as the 11th highest-paid athlete in the world for 2014; he ranked 13th last year.

According to reports, Pacquiao earned $41 million from his two fights against Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley, and $800,000 from endorsements. The widely popular magazine said while both fights are both disappointments in pay-per-view, the fighting congressman from the lone district of Sarangani still earned $41 million, including Philippine TV money, from the two bouts.

Pacquiao will face New Yorker Algieri next

MANILA, Philippines - It’s official: Manny Pacquiao will face New Yorker Chris Algieri on Saturday, November 22 (Sunday PH time) in Macau.

ESPN.com reports that WBO welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao will face WBO junior welterweight titleholder at the Venetian Resort in Macau as Pacquiao fights in Asia for the first time since his victory over Brandon Rios in November of 2013.

"We have a deal,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN. “On my end, it wasn't a hard deal at all. I came up pretty much with what they were looking for and then [Algieri’s promoters Joe Deguardia and Artie Pellulo] had to sit down with Algieri and cut it up fairly amongst themselves."

Algieri (20-0, 8 knockouts) of Huntington, N.Y. rose from anonymity last month, defeating the heavily favored Ruslan Provodnikov to win a portion of the 140 pound championship. The 30-year-old boxing stylist is also a former world kickboxing champion and obtained his pre-med undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University his masters degree from New York Institute of Technology.

"He's wants the fight and has no problem going up in weight,” said Algieri’s promoter DeGuardia. “He wants the welterweight championship. He wants challenges. He loves the idea. He wanted to fight for another championship and he loves that he is fighting Manny Pacquiao for it. He looks as Manny as an elite of the game. He wants to climb another mountain. If he wins this fight, you have the start of another era."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it’s believed Algieri will earn more than $1 million - or ten times the $100,000 he made for the split decision win over Provodnikov.

Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) of General Santos City, Philippines has been resurgent since avenging his controversial decision loss to Timothy Bradley with a dominant victory in April. Pacquiao has now won two straight since his sixth-round knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez in December of 2012.

"Manny is 100 percent for it," Arum said. "I told him I was coming along with it. He said Algieri seems like a nice young man and he saw his fight with Provodnikov. Manny said he thought it would be a good fight and he was OK with fighting Algieri."

Marcos Maidana: 'Floyd Mayweather not as good as people think'

Marcos Maidana exceeded most pundits' expectations last May when he lost a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Heading into his Sep. 13 welterweight title rematch against "Money," Maidana is letting the world know that Mayweather didn't live up to billing.

"He's not as good as people think," the Argentine said during a recent Showtime media round table.

"I was able to pin him to the ropes and land punches, so he's not as difficult or as invincible as people think. He's hittable. You can land on him. I made mistakes. I was a little too anxious. He never hurt me, but he's got a respectable punch. You've got to respect him."

Maidana insists that he hasn't tried to overhaul himself in this current camp for Mayweather. "[I'm] just working on my distance control and a couple other minor changes," he said.

However, the brawler expects that he will have improved more than Mayweather could have from their first fight. "(Mayweather) can obviously change and get better, but I can change and get better too," he said.

"The only thing he can do is box and that's what he did in the first fight. He was moving a lot. What is he going to do? Move more?"

One area that Maidana acknowledged he could improve upon is his conditioning and pacing. In the first fight, he tired late in the fight - something he attributes, in part, to nerves - and he knows he'll have to go strong for the entire fight in order to improve his chances of beating Mayweather.

"Yes. I did [tire in the second half of the fight with Mayweather]," he admitted.

"I came out strong the first six or seven rounds, and after that I had to take a break and catch my breath a little bit. I had to pace myself. I have to not get as anxious for this fight."

Perhaps Maidana has already gotten past the point of excessive nervousness for the Mayweather rematch, or perhaps it's still a work in progress and all his confident words are meant to bolster his psyche. For now, he's insisting that - despite not making major changes in his training - he'll be more improved than Mayweather, and that he's had enough time to prepare for boxing's biggest star.

"I've had a little more time to prepare for this fight," he concluded.

"So this time I'm going to be ready."

Donaire to defend featherweight title vs unbeaten Walters

MANILA, Philippines - Nonito Donaire Jr will defend his WBA featherweight title against unbeaten Nicholas Walters on October 18 at the Stubhub Center, in Carson, Calif., according to RingTV.com.

Donaire (33-2, 22 knockouts) of San Leandro, Calif. by way of Talibon, Bohol will be making his first defense of the belt he won by a fifth-round technical decision over Simpiwe Vetyeka on May 31 in Macau. In that fight, Donaire was severely cut by an accidental headbutt in the first round before dropping Vetyeka in the fourth. The fight was stopped at the beginning of round five because of the severity of the cut with all three judges scoring the fight 49-46.

Walters (24-0, 20 KOs) of Montego Bay, Jamaica last fought on that undercard, knocking out former Donaire rival Vic Darchinyan in five rounds, sending the former two-division champion into retirement. The 28-year-old Walters employs solid body punching and counterpunching to break opponents down.

Though Donaire is the champion, Walters is rated a notch higher at no. 3 by THE RING magazine at 126 pounds. Confusingly, Walters holds the WBA’s “regular” featherweight title, which is not recognized as a legitimate world championship.

RingTV reported that K2 Promotions president Tom Loeffler had confirmed that the Donaire-Walters fight would be co-featured bout to the HBO-televised Gennady Golovkin vs Marco Antonio Rubio WBA middleweight title fight.

The fight has yet to be announced by Donaire’s promoter Top Rank, and a message requesting comment on the matter has not yet been returned.

Weights: Floyd Mayweather 146½, Marcos Maidana 146

Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana made weight and tomorrow's fight is on.

The fight is on for tomorrow night, as Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana comfortably made weight today in Las Vegas, coming in below the 147-pound limit for their three-title, double-division title fight tomorrow night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Mayweather (46-0, 26 KO) weighed in at 146½ pounds, just bigger than Maidana (35-4, 31 KO), who came in at 146. The fighters engaged in just a brief staredown, with Maidana seemingly disinterested in bothering with the whole shtick. Mayweather didn't exactly push for it to be anything more than it was.

On the undercard

Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KO) weighed in at 121 pounds, with Manuel Roman (17-2-3, 6 KO) at the division limit of 122 for their WBC super bantamweight title fight.

Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13 KO) tipped the scales at 135 pounds, the limit for his IBF lightweight title defense against Mickey Bey (20-1-1, 10 KO), who weighed in at 134½.

Alfredo Angulo (22-4, 18 KO) came in at 162 pounds, on the nose for the catchweight, for his fight with James de la Rosa (22-2, 13 KO), who weighed in at 161½. They'll open the pay-per-view portion of the broadcast.

On Showtime, John Molina (27-4, 22 KO) will meet Humberto Soto (64-8-2, 35 KO) at 7:00 pm EDT, one hour before the PPV. Molina weighed in at 139½ and Soto came in at 140.

Mayweather remains unbeaten despite bite complaint

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Floyd Mayweather worked far too hard against Marcos Maidana their last time out to have to do it again in the rematch Saturday night.

Mayweather dominated Maidana from the opening bell, using his boxing skills to keep the Argentine off balance and pile up points on his way to a unanimous 12-round decision to retain his welterweight and super welterweight titles before a crowd at the MGM Grand that sometimes booed the lack of action.

It almost came at a cost, though, in a bizarre scene in the eighth round when Mayweather claimed that Maidana bit him on his wrist while they were in a clinch near the center of the ring.

"He bit me!" Mayweather yelled to the Showtime announcers working ringside.

Mayweather remained unbeaten in his remarkable 18-year pro career, winning for the 47th time and doing it with such dominance that about the only one complaining about the decision was Maidana.

"I was pressuring him and I was the aggressor," Maidana said. "I won the fight."

Mayweather earned at least $32 million for the rematch, bringing his total purses to more than $100 million in the last year. Though he wasn't marked up, he was upset over the bite.

"We were tangled in the center of the ring and I didn't realize what it was. Then I saw that he bit me," Mayweather said. "After the eighth round my fingers were numb, I couldn't use my left hand."

Maidana denied he bit Mayweather.

"How can he say I bit the glove with my mouthpiece?" Maidana asked. "I'm not a dog."

The fight was a marked contrast to their first bout in May, when Maidana roughed Mayweather up in a close fight. Mayweather won that bout, but it was close enough for Mayweather to offer an opponent only the second rematch of his career.

Maidana won't get a third fight after failing to land any big punches.

Two ringside judges scored it 116-111 for Mayweather, while the third had it 115-112. The Associated Press had it 117-110.

"I felt sharper in the first fight, my rhythm was off," Mayweather said. "I got hit with some shots tonight I shouldn't have gotten hit with. But that comes with the sport."

Mayweather complained long after the first fight that Maidana was a dirty fighter, and complained even more when Maidana seemed to try to hit him below the belt in a clinch in the eighth round, then apparently tried to bite him.

Mayweather immediately jumped back and gestured to referee Kenny Bayless that Maidana bit him on the wrist. He went to his corner and showed Bayless where the bite was, then went over to the Showtime announcers table to complain.

Maidana would later be penalized a point for tackling Mayweather as he tried desperately to find something that would work.

By the end of the ninth round, Maidana was so out of sorts he went to the wrong corner when the bell rang.

Maidana spent many of the early rounds trying to figure out a way to get inside like he did in May. Mayweather kept him at a distance, circling around and landing left jabs and hooks, then scampering out of the way before Maidana could respond.

Punch stats showed Maidana throwing far more punches (572-326) while Mayweather landed more (166-128). Mayweather's was hit with only 22 percent of punches while landing 51 percent of his own.

"I do have some bumps and bruises," Mayweather said. "But I listened to my dad (trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr.) who always said hit and not get hit. That's the way you last in this sport."

Mayweather was a 6-1 favorite in the fight, even though Maidana gave him a tough time in their first bout. He showed why in the early rounds as he moved and boxed while Maidana chased him futilely around the ring.

Mayweather was determined not to let the fight become anything like the first, when Maidana went after him wildly and mauled him at every opportunity. For the second fight, Mayweather came out boxing and did so beautifully during the opening rounds.

Maidana was more cautious early than he was in the first fight, willing to take his time to find Mayweather. He finally began to pick up the pace in the fourth round, trapping Mayweather on the ropes and landing some shots to his body and head.

Mayweather, though, showed he learned his lessons from the first fight, when he was cut over his right eye and took a lot of shots to the top of his head. A defensive wizard, he fought moving sideways and backward, throwing his left jab out and slipping the big punches thrown by the Argentine challenger.

Pacquiao fight, 'let's make it happen' says Mayweather

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - It took just minutes after Floyd Mayweather Jr had scored a dominant win over Argentine Marcos Maidana on Saturday before the undefeated welterweight champion faced the inevitable question.

Will Manny Pacquiao be his next opponent?

Still in the ring, still covered in sweat, Mayweather had barely time to catch his breath following a bruising 12-round battle with the hard-hitting Argentine when he was asked about the fight that has fascinated and obsessed the boxing world.

Mayweather's unanimous decision over Maidana that improved his perfect record to 47-0 immediately renewed speculation about a long-awaited super-fight between the 37-year-old American and the Filipino great.

"I got to go back and talk to my team, I'm not ducking or dodging no opponent," Mayweather said from the ring. "If a Pacquiao fight presents itself, let's make it happen."

A duel between the defense-minded Mayweather and the aggressive Pacquiao, the biggest drawcards of their generation, has long been savored by boxing fans, if only to decide the mythical title of the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.

Filipino Pacquiao lost some of his appeal after successive defeats to American Timothy Bradley and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, prompting talk of his possible retirement, though he has since bounced back with two impressive wins.

Five-division world champion Mayweather had been expected to meet Pacquiao in 2010 until negotiations collapsed over the American's demand for random drug testing.

Mayweather, who has hinted at illegal methods by often questioning how Pacquiao could have won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight classes.

"I don't think about Pacquiao, I don't even know him. I wish him the best but that's not my focus," said Mayweather. My focus is Floyd Mayweather that is how I got to where I got to.

"I try not to focus on anyone else's business.

"If it happens it happens. You guys can keep asking the same questions over-and-over and I will give you the same answers.

"That's not my focus.

"My business model is I am my own boss. I call my own shots."

Mayweather announced last week that he will retire in 2015 when his Showtime contract ends in two more fights.

His next fight is expected to come in May but Mayweather said no date has been set and would consider a number of opponents, including Pacquiao.

"We don't know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather," said the champion. "What realistic is I am 47-0.

"As of right now I want to enjoy my time off. We don't know who we going to be fighting.

"We're not in a rush. We take our time that's how we got to where we got to.

"We not sure what the game plan is."

Mayweather claims Pacquiao could be one of his two next opponents

Boxer Floyd Mayweather, fresh off his lopsided victory over Marcos Maidana, denied he is trying to safeguard his undefeated record by avoiding Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather has admitted he handpicked opponents in the past but says there is nothing unscrupulous about not fighting Pacquiao, one of the few fighters who can match the American's hand speed.

"I am not ducking or dodging no opponent," said Mayweather, who turns 38 in February. "If a Pacquiao fight presents itself then let's make it happen."

Mayweather said Saturday after beating Maidana for the second time in four months that he is open to a fight against Pacquiao, but it would have to be on Mayweather's terms.

On Sunday, Stephen Espinoza, vice president of sports cable channel Showtime, told the Los Angeles Times that Pacquiao is "absolutely" his first choice as Mayweather's next opponent.

Mayweather is in the middle of a six-fight deal with Showtime.

In the past, Mayweather (47-0) has always tried to sidestep questions about facing Pacquiao, who is getting set to fight in Macau in November against Chris Algieri.

"Pacquiao needs to focus on the guy in front of him. Then we'll see what the future holds," Mayweather said.

Pacquiao and Mayweather have held talks about staging a mega-fight before but they always broke down before a deal could be signed.

It is unlikely Pacquiao would agree to the terms that Maidana did for his rematch, allowing Mayweather to handpick his referee, Kenny Bayless, and change two of the three judges from the first fight.

Mayweather says Pacquiao is too worried about fighting him and forgets to train for his regular fights.

"In the past, if you look at Pacquiao when he fought (Juan Manuel) Marquez, he was too focused on Floyd Mayweather instead of the guy in front of him and you saw what happened," he said, recalling Pacquiao's knockout defeat.

"I never think about Pacquiao. That's not my focus. I could care less what Pacquiao does. If it happens, it happens.

"I want to enjoy my time off. We don't know who we going to be fighting. We are not in a rush. We are the A side and we are going to take our time."
Another possible opponent is British boxer Amir Khan, who sat ringside at Saturday's fight.

"Of course, Amir Kahn would be a potential opponent," said Leonard Ellerbe, chief executive of Mayweather Promotions. "Amir Khan is a very good fighter, just like a lot of other potential opponents."

Walters destroys Donaire in 6 rounds

WBA Super World featherweight champion Nonito Donaire (33-3, 21 KOs) tasted defeat tonight in losing by a 6th round knockout to the unbeaten Nicholas Walters (25-0, 21 KOs) at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California.

Walters, 28, knocked Donaire down with a chopping right hand in the 6th round that sent Donaire down face first on the canvas. Donaire made it back up to his feet at the count of 8, but the referee Raul Caiz Jr halted the fight at 3:00 of the round anyway after seeing how hurt Donaire was.

Walters also knocked Donaire down in the 3rd round with a big right uppercut to the head.

In the 2nd round, Donaire staggered Walters with a big left hook to the head in the final seconds of the round.

Walters landed 85 of 284 punches, according to CompuBox. Donaire landed 40 of 169 punches.

Donaire said after the fight “He beat the [expletive out of me. The size he had. I couldn’t move. He knocked the [expletive out of me]. I can’t compete against guys like Walters.”

As far as his future, Donaire said he’ll think about what he’ll do next. It’s possible he could move back down to super bantamweight. He doesn’t have many options at featherweight unless he wants to go after WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

With this win, Walters will likely be facing WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko next. That’s a fight that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said he wants to make next.

Manny Pacquiao appears arrogant playing basketball before bout

A study published in 2010 conducted over a 17-year period discovered that the most common injury to afflict an NBA player is a lateral ankle sprain. More than 13 percent of all injuries studied in those 17 years were sprained ankles.

A sprained ankle is exactly the kind of injury that Manny Pacquiao risked when he played seven minutes as a player-coach for the Kia Sorento in the Philippine Basketball Association. Pacquiao had two turnovers in a game his team won 80-66 over the Blackwater Elite.

Pacquiao is supposed to defend the WBO welterweight title against Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 at Cotai Arena in Macau, China, in a bout on HBO Pay-Per-View. He has two main jobs now: Train for the fight and help to sell the pay-per-view.

He went on a 27,000-mile tour with Algieri and promoter Bob Arum in August, making stops in Macau, Shanghai, Singapore, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. All of that money is down the drain if Pacquiao were to get injured.

It would have also cost Algieri the fight of his life and all of the fighters on the undercard a significant payday.

Pacquiao said after the game that he would stick to his coaching duties and not play until after the fight, but it was incredibly arrogant of Pacquiao to even attempt play pro basketball so close to a major fight. A sprained ankle almost certainly would have postponed or canceled the card and would have made a lot of people that he works with in the fight business extraordinarily unhappy.

He's not the first player to try to do such a thing. Roy Jones Jr. actually played a minor league basketball game in 1996 on the same day he fought Eric Lucas. The difference was, however, that the bout was an HBO card and not a pay-per-view event. While it would have been disastrous had Jones been injured, it would have not come with the financial cost that would occur had Pacquiao been injured and forced to pull out of the Nov. 22 match.

Part of the reason for his success as a boxer has been because of his amazing conditoning, and playing basketball is a big part of that. He loves basketball and plays the game regularly.

Algieri wasn't thrilled about it when he met with a small group of reporters Saturday in Carson, Calif., before Gennady Golovkin defeated Marco Antonio Rubio at the StubHub Center.

"I don't know if it's arrogance or just silly and stupid," Algieri said. "During the press tour, I actually got on a horse at one point. As soon as I got up there, I was like, 'This is a bad idea. This is a bad idea because I'm getting paid after the fight.' I don't know if it's the smart thing to do, but ... "

When he was first asked about it, Algieri shrugged and said he didn't have much to say. But he made it clear he would have preferred Pacquiao to be careful and chosen to skip the game.

"A lot of people ask me about his basketball and if that's what he chooses to do, that's fine," Algieri said."As long as he doesn't get hurt, I don't really care."

Had Pacquiao sprained an ankle, you can bet a lot of people would care, and a lot of them are very influential. You can bet that Ed Tracy, the CEO of Sands China, which has largely financed the bout, would have been over-the-top angry. So, too, would have promoter Bob Arum, who has paid Pacquiao millions and always advanced him money when Pacquiao needed it.

It appears everyone has dodged a bullet this time. Hopefully, there isn't a next time to worry about.

Pacquiao knocks Algieri down 6 times, dominates

MACAU (AP) -- Manny Pacquiao couldn't resist having a little fun after getting the signature win he desperately needed for the fight boxing fans desperately want to see.

No reason not to enjoy himself after sending Chris Algieri to the canvas six times Sunday night in a performance that will once again heat up talk of a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

''He's going to fight me? Yes! Yes!,'' Pacquiao said, jumping up and down in the ring Sunday after tearing apart a reluctant Algieri on his way to a lopsided decision win. ''I am ready to fight him next year.''

Pacquiao was playing off a new commercial where he celebrates after thinking Mayweather has agreed to the match. But he might have boosted his stock enough to entice Mayweather into the ring finally.

''I really want that fight,'' Pacquiao said. ''The fans deserve that fight.''

Pacquiao got the big knockdowns he was looking for, battering Algieri around the ring at will Sunday in a lopsided welterweight title fight.

Pacquiao chased Algieri from the opening bell, knocking him down repeatedly and dominating. About the only thing Pacquiao didn't get was his first knockout in five years, settling instead for a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision against an opponent who seemed unwilling to engage.

By the time it was over, Algieri had gone down six times. And Pacquiao had dispelled notions he might be on the decline.

''It's not just his hand speed,'' Algieri said. ''He's a great fighter. He does everything well. Manny has perfected his style of boxing.''

Pacquiao prayed in his corner while waiting for the decision. But it was Algieri who never had a prayer.

Pacquiao knocked Algieri down once in the second round, two more times in the sixth and twice more in the ninth. After a final knockdown in the 10th round, he seemed to back off in a fight that had long been decided.

Two ringside judges scored the bout 119-103 while the third had it 120-102. The Associated Press had Pacquiao winning 120-102.

Pacquiao went into the fight saying he needed a power win to entice Mayweather to fight him. He vowed to put on a performance like some of his earlier fights and did, never letting Algieri get close.

Some of the sold out crowd of 13,202 at the Venetian Macau may have wondered whether Algieri deserved this fight, as he spent more time trying to stay away from Pacquiao than trading punches.

But while Algieri could run, he couldn't hide. Pacquiao caught him repeatedly with power punches and dropped him as he tried to back away.

''The master boxer was given a master class by professor Pacquiao tonight,'' trainer Freddie Roach said. ''I was disappointed in Algieri's performance tonight. All he did was run.''

Pacquiao's second fight in China was held at midday to accommodate the pay-per-view sales in the U.S., but the time of day didn't matter much to the Filipino fans who cheered on their 35-year-old national hero.

Pacquiao knocked Algieri down in the corner in the second round, though Algieri claimed it was a slip. He easily fought his way through Algieri's tentative defense, landing punches on the inside and piling up points.

Algieri came into the fight with a reputation for his jab, but he refused to commit to it early and simply pawed at Pacquiao with his left hand. Still, Algieri's corner somehow thought he was carrying out the game plan just the way they had drawn it up.

''You're doing beautiful man,'' trainer Tim Lane told his fighter after the third round. ''Everything stays the same. Keep it up.''

By the end of the fourth round, Pacquiao had already thrown more than 100 more punches than Algieri. And Algieri rarely stopped to set his feet to punch, and kept trying to run away from the champion's punching power.

Unfortunately for Algieri, things then went from bad to worse. Pacquiao caught him with a big left hand that sent Algieri sprawling on the canvas in the sixth round, almost turning a reverse somersault before finally landing in the corner.

Pacquiao was right back on him, and Algieri went down again late in the round as he tried desperately to survive.

Still, Algieri's corner urged him to continue to do what he was doing, long after he needed a knockout to win.

''This is the way we want to be,'' Lane told him. ''This is what you wanted''

Algieri was an unlikely opponent despite being unbeaten in 20 fights after ending a kick boxing career to concentrate on boxing. He got the bout after being knocked down twice in the first round in his June fight with Ruslan Provodnikov and coming back to win a 12-round decision, and was supremely confident in the weeks before the fight that he would beat Pacquiao, too.

Oddsmakers made him a 7-1 underdog against the Filipino great, who came into determined to show he still had his punching power.

The bout was for a piece of the welterweight title held by Pacquiao, though it was fought at a catch weight of 144 pounds instead of 147.

Roach: I'm watching tape to prepare for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

MACAU -- Freddie Roach has spent the better part of the latter three months preparing Manny Pacquiao to face Chris Algieri. But Roach also reserved a bit of that time to watch some video of Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Roach said not long after Pacquiao's dominant victory over Algieri Saturday before 13,202 fans at Cotai Arena that he is at least guardedly optimistic a bout with Mayweather, the pound-for-pound king, may occur next year.

Roach said he facilitated a summer meeting at Arum's Beverly Hills, Calif., home between the veteran promoter and Leslie Moonves, the chairman of CBS Corp., in the hopes of them arranging a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather. Roach said Moonves was angry at Arum because Arum had promised Moonves that Pacquiao would fight three times on Showtime and he only fought once.

But Roach said he maneuvered to get the men together and talking.

Asked to rate his level of optimism, Roach smiled and said, "I'm watching tape again."

There is a long way to go between talks in the summer and the fight boxing fans have been desperate to see since 2010, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Pacquiao said he's down for it.

"It's time to step up and say yes," Pacquiao said.

That Allergy coach Tim Lane is a dumbass. Nabugbug na nga ang bata nya sa ninth, nagcomment pa na "We are exactly where we need to be."

Frankly, I was hoping Pacquiao lose this one. He doesn't deserve it.

Mayweather Faces the Music
by : Skip Bayless

My view is that Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally couldn't win. Damned if he did or didn't.

He could keep running, retire undefeated and live with the shame of THIS GLARING ASTERISK: Never Fought Manny Pacquiao.

Or he could be dared and goaded and mocked into facing his greatest fear: 47-1.

Pride won and Mayweather finally chose the latter. He finally gave in to the father/trainer he was named after and to all those he pays to tell him how great he is -- all of them telling him, "Floyd, you can take this guy, easy."

Deep down, Floyd knows better.

He will lose to Pacquiao, by knockout, on May 2. As Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, told me by phone: "Manny wants this fight more than Floyd."

Pacquiao has wanted it more for five long years as he waited (and waited) on May-(or May Not)-weather, who counterpunched with excuse after excuse. At first Mayweather's camp slung mud that Pacquiao was a PED product, simply because he grew from a light flyweight (up to 108 pounds) at age 16 to a power-punching welterweight (140-147 pounds). Pacquiao sued Floyd, his father and others in his camp for defamation.

Next Mayweather and Pacquiao went back and forth over how close to a potential fight they would have their blood drawn for testing. Pacquiao and Roach protested they didn't want Manny weakened too close to the fight. Deals kept falling apart.

Again and again I wondered: If Mayweather is as all-time great as he keeps saying, why would he care even if Pacquiao were doing steroids the way Mayweather does M&Ms? No doubt Mayweather is the greatest defensive fighter ever. So as long as he and Pacquiao weigh the same, what's to fear?

Far more than steroids.

Mayweather has boxing genius. But it takes one to know one, and he knew right away Pacquiao also has rare boxing IQ -- an equalizing gift for setting up and taking down an opponent. Mayweather's other dominant advantage over every other opponent has been hand speed. Yet he could see Pacquiao's hands are as scary quick as his. Worse, Mayweather knew all too well that Pacquiao was blessed with far more natural punching power than Floyd ever had.

"Floyd is a decent puncher," Freddie Roach said. "He walked Ricky Hatton into a nice left hook. But he doesn't sit down on punches that often. Bad hands. All the Mayweathers [his father and two uncles were all champions or contenders] ... small bodies, small hands."

Yes, Mayweather constantly has struggled with sore hands that don't lend themselves to throwing lots of knockout punches. Advantage, Pacquiao.

Mayweather also has struggled some with left-handers. Pacquiao is left-handed. Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, who promoted Mayweather for 10 years, flat out says Floyd is "afraid of left-handers." Roach told me Mayweather chose to fight a few lefties just because he knew one day he would have to fight the best and baddest lefty. Advantage, Pacquiao.

Mayweather Sr. counters that his son's advantages in height (5-8 to 5-6) and reach (72 inches to 67) make this an unfair fight. He told Fighthype.com that Pacquiao "is so damn short. Floyd's going to make him look like a baby."

Yet as his son continued to duck Pacquiao, Floyd Sr. said several times that Floyd Jr. "doesn't know it yet, but he can beat Pacquiao."

Does he even know it now?

About two years ago, Pacquiao joined us at the "First Take" debate desk and revealed two more whatever-it-takes concessions. He said he would accept the lower end of a 60-40 split and he said he would agree to a day-of-fight blood test. I did not see dollar signs in Pacquiao's eyes that day. I saw the cool, hard look of a competitor who truly believes he can beat a man he truly believes is afraid of him.

That's the word Pacquiao used when I pressed him. Why won't Floyd fight him? He shrugged as if it was obvious and said, "He's afraid."

This did not come off like pre-fight hype. There was no fight.

Pacquiao eventually resorted to daring and taunting Mayweather in a Foot Locker commercial and via Twitter. My debate partner, Stephen A. Smith, was incredulous at this dangerous disrespect, saying, "Manny Pacquiao has the audacity to dare Floyd Mayweather Jr.? The nerve!"

Of course, it was easy to dismiss these dares as desperation. Over the past few years, several reports have indicated Pacquiao has been in financial trouble, in part because of his philanthropy in his home country. Even Roach has said, "He can't say no." So it's certainly possible this record payday was one reason Pacquiao wanted this fight.

But the feeling I get from Roach and another source in the Pacquiao camp is that Manny has wanted "Money" Mayweather for far more than money, that he badly wants to show the world he can out-will and even out-box Mayweather. Pacquiao, I'm told, loves being a 2-to-1 underdog.

"Look," Roach said, "this will be a very difficult fight. Floyd's style will be very hard for Manny. Manny likes guys to come to him, and Floyd will run and he will box. He's very clever. You have to avoid his traps."

Yet Mayweather is now 38, Pacquiao 36. Which brings us to this irony from Roach: "Five years ago, maybe Floyd would've beaten Manny. ... [But] Manny has more heart right now."

Mayweather fans will laugh out loud at that contention. Wait, they'll say, in 2012 Pacquiao suffered back-to-back losses! He lost to Timothy Bradley! And he got "put to sleep" by Juan Manuel Marquez with a sixth-round knockout! Pacquiao hasn't knocked out anyone in six years!

Excuse me, but the split decision by which he lost to Bradley was the most outrageously inexplicable judging I've ever witnessed (the first fight I covered was Ali-Spinks in New Orleans, 1978). Pacquiao soundly whipped Bradley in their rematch.

And that was the fourth time Pacquiao had fought Marquez! With 1 second left in Round 6, Pacquiao let his mind wander and he wandered right into a right hand that momentarily separated him from his senses. But here's the point: Pacquiao didn't want to be fighting Marquez again or to be fighting Bradley either time. He wanted to be fighting Mayweather.

Pacquiao's heart hasn't really been in a fight for about five years. Now, if you want to argue his heart hasn't been in inflicting punishment on another man, you could have a point. That's my only concern about Pacquiao-Mayweather: A spiritual conversion Pacquiao experienced about five years ago might have softened his spirit a little and melted some of his warrior's ferocity. He might have become too nice a guy.

It's also possible that while waiting on Mayweather, he allowed himself to be too distracted and drained by his political and singing careers. No doubt the strategically brilliant Mayweather monitored Pacquiao's life changes, waiting for the moment Manny was finally ripe for the taking.

When Mayweather approached Pacquiao at a recent Miami Heat game and asked to meet with him in Pacquiao's hotel room, it's possible Floyd just wanted the opportunity to look into Manny's eyes, maybe even into his soul, and gauge just how much fire was still burning.

My guess: Manny fooled him.

When Manny wants to, he can come across as the nicest, nonthreatening non-fighter you'll ever meet. There's at least some truth to this thought from a source in Pacquiao's camp: "The third-world ghetto fighter [Pacquiao left home at 14 because his mother could no longer afford to feed him and five siblings] is not intimidated by the American inner-city fighter [Floyd grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan]. The third-world fighter has seen worse things. So Floyd cannot win this fight before the fight."

There is much truth to Roach's point about preparing for Pacquiao. Floyd Jr. and Sr. can watch all the tape they want, but: "You really don't realize just how fast Manny is or how hard he hits until you actually get hit by him."

Deep down, Floyd surely has an idea.

Roach predicts Manny will knock out Mayweather "very late in the fight. ... It will be a process of breaking him down. He'll get a little tired and ..."

Boom: 47-1.

Manny finally shamed you into it, Floyd.

Donaire destroys Prado, Nietes halts Parra

Former world champion Nonito Donaire Jr (34-3, 22 KOs) returned to the 122lb division on Saturday night at the famous Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines. “The Filipino Flash” punished former world title challenger William Prado (22-5-1, 15 KOs) from the get-go and the one-sided clash was waved off in round two. It was Donaire’s first fight since his loss at featherweight to world champion Nicholas Walters last October and his first bout in the Philippines since 2009.

WBO jr flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes (35-1-4, 21 KOs) retained his title for the sixth time with a tenth round TKO over Gilberto Parra (19-3, 17 KOs). Nietes dropped Parra in round eight and got the win when Parra didn’t come out for round ten.

Unbeaten super bantamweight Albert Pagara (23-0, 16 KOs) was victorious when Rodolfo Hernandez (26-6-1, 24 KOs) was unable to continue after round four in a bout for the IBF I/C belt.

Bantamweight Ryo Akaho (26-1-2, 18 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over Prosper Ankrah (24-5, 15 KOs) in a bout for the vacant WBO International belt.

Featherweight AJ Banal (33-2-1, 22 KOs) scores a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over Junior Bajawa (14-6, 7 KOs).

Latest Update :

*Donaire scores a TKO victory over Settoul in Macau. Now a title contender for the WBA Jr. featherweight champion Scott Quigg.

Nonito Donaire Jr was too fast and too powerful for Frenchman Anthony Settoul, knocking him down 3 times before Settoul's corner threw in the towel at 1:41 of the second round at the Venetian Resort in Macau, China on Saturday, July 18.

Donaire (35-3, 23 knockouts) dropped the overmatched Settoul (20-4, 8 KOs) twice in the first round, beginning with a left uppercut that caused a delayed reaction knockdown.
Moments later, Donaire threw a right hand, then used that hand to keep Settoul in place for a rib-crunching left hook to the body for another knockdown.

Settoul made it out of round one, but found himself back on the canvas a minute into the next round from an overhand right that sent him down on all fours.

Pagara brothers pull off contrasting wins in Dubai

DUBAI, U.A.E–Albert Pagara pulled off a sensational first round knockout victory over a hapless Jesus Rios of Mexico to keep his International Boxing Federation junior featherweight title in Dubai early Saturday (Manila time).

Pagara first downed Rios with a barrage of punches and then finished off the Mexican with another flurry barely two minutes into the headliner of Pinoy Pride 32: Duel in Dubai 2 at the Dubai World Trade Center.

His brotherJason Pagara, meanwhile, won by unanimous decision over Mexican Ramiro Alcaraz, 77-73, 76-74, 78-72.

The 10-round junior welterweight encounter was halted in the eighth round upon the advice of ring physician Dr. Nasser Cruz following another headbutt that bloodied Jason’s left eyelid anew.

The Mexican was deducted a point each in the first round for accidental head butt that opened up the cut and again in the sixth for hitting after the bell has sounded.

Jason improved to 36-2, 22 knockouts while Alcaraz dropped to 15-5, 9 knockouts.

Veteran Jimrex Jaca survived a fourth round knockdown to beat tough Mexican Pablo Lugo Montiel via unanimous decision 78-73 twice and 77-74.

Jaca improved to 40-8-4, 22 knockouts while Montiel fell to 21-6, 17 KOs.

Dubai-based Filipino Larry Abarra scored a sensational 54-second first round knockout over Indonesian Tony Arema in their 122-pound showdown, a curtain raiser of the Pinoy Pride event here.

Roman Gonzalez stops Brian Viloria in the ninth round

New York, N.Y. — Roman Gonzalez rolls on.

The No. 1 fighter pound for pound and the WBC flyweight champion stopped veteran
Brian Viloria 2 minutes, 53 seconds into the ninth round Saturday at Madison Square Garden, the Nicaraguan’s 10th
straight knockout during his sensational run to the top of the sport.

Viloria (36-5, 22 knockouts) took the fight to Gonzalez (44-0, 38 KOs) at the opening
bell and the first few rounds were close. Then, in the third, a short right sent Viloria to one knee and the Nicaraguan’s killer instinct kicked in.

That was the beginning of the end. Viloria, who gave a courageous performance,
survived that round and lasted five-plus more but absorbed a lot of hard, accurate punches from a superior fighter.

Finally, after Gonazlez unloaded a punishing flurry that pushed Viloria to the
ropes, referee Benjy Esteves mercifully jumped between the boxers and ended the fight.

Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin defeats Canadian David Lemieux by TKO in middleweight title-unification bout

NO big drama this time for Gennady Golovkin.
Just a lot of big punches as he dominated his middleweight title fight with David Lemieux.

Golovkin battered Lemieux around the ring Saturday night on the big stage at Madison
Square Garden, landing punch after punch before the referee mercifully stepped in and
stopped the fight in the eighth round.

He remained unbeaten in 34 fights, and stopped his opponent for the 21st straight
time.

methodical as he knocked down Lemieux in the fifth round, bloodied his nose and
dominated almost every second of the way.

Arum says Pacquiao planning last fight - report

(http://s4.postimg.org/3n7yjjlkt/250f25bb7e5c59a51c282ec10c14570af7132e96.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao plans to end his ring career with a fight on April 9 before moving on to focus on his political career, promoter Bob Arum has told ESPN.com.

Arum said he had discussed plans for a final fight with Pacquiao last week in New York -- where Pacquiao received the Asia Game Changer award presented by the Asia Society at the United Nations.
"I'm telling you what he told me last week at dinner in New York," Arum told the website. "We talked very seriously and he said, 'Bob, hopefully, by the middle of May I will have been elected senator in the Philippines and at that point I cannot engage in boxing because I need to focus on the senate and I have to be in attendance.'
"Manny told me this fight on April 9 will be his last fight."
That echoed comments Pacquiao himself made in the Philippines this month, when he announced he would run for a senate seat.
He has been a congressman since 2010.

An opponent has not been named, although Arum mentioned England's Amir Khan, a former unified junior welterweight titleholder, as well as unbeaten junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford -- who fights Montreal's Dierry Jean on Saturday.
Arum named Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley as other potential foes.

Mexico's Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs), has said he is not interested in extending his great rivalry with Pacquiao to a fifth fight while Bradley would have to get past Brandon Rios in November to be considered for a third fight against PacMan.
Bradley was awarded a controversial split decision in their 2012 fight that most thought Pacquiao had won, and Pacquiao won a 2014 rematch.

The venue for the bout also remains uncertain, although Arum said he expected it to be in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao, who has won eight world titles in as many weight divisions, owns a ring record of 57-6-2 with 38 knockouts.

Donaire overcomes Juarez,
claims WBO belt

MANILA, Philippines - In a "Fight of the Year" candidate, Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire overcame a gutsy challenge from Mexican foe Cesar Juarez to win via
unanimous decision and claim the vacant WBO superbantamweight belt Saturday in Puerto Rico.

Donaire got off to a fast start and seemed to be on his way to finishing the match early, but Juarez showed tremendous heart in fighting back and had "The Filipino
Flash" in deep trouble multiple times in the second half of the fight.

Donaire knocked down Juarez twice in the fourth round, first via a huge right hook and then again with his trademark left, but the Mexican survived the count both times.

A slip in the sixth round when he appeared to get tripped by the referee visibly affected
Donaire's movement. Juarez began to assert himself then, even opening up a cut above Donaire's eye while shaking off the Filipino fighter's punches.

Donaire went down in the tenth round, but it was ruled a slip by the referee. He and
Juarez continued trading blows until the final bell, with "The Filipino Flash" surviving
the Mexican's final attempt at a knockout.

With the win, Donaire improved to 36-3 in his career, while Juarez dropped to 17-4.

The final fight in Manny Pacquiao 's historic career?

Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley 3: Rematch

Manny Pacquiao will face Timothy Bradley for a third time on April 9 at the MGM in Las Vegas in what could be the final fight of his storied career, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com.

“It’s a done deal and it’s going to be a third fight against [Timothy] Bradley. We took a lot of consideration knowing Bradley has improved a lot as a fighter since the last time
they’ve met in 2014,” Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told Josef T. Ramos of the Manila Times earlier on Wednesday.

“Bradley is happy about it of course and that’s really a competitive fight for Manny
[Pacquiao]," Arum added.

"People should not buy this fight because they believe it's Manny's last fight," Arum
said, per Coppinger . "They should buy it if they believe with Bradley's improvement this is a really competitive fight."

Pacquiao knocks down Bradley twice, wins via UD

(UPDATED) In what may be the last fight of his storied boxing career, Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao put on an entertaining show, as he knocked down Timothy Bradley Jr. twice en route to a unanimous decision victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).

The three judges scored the bout 116-110 across the board for Pacquiao, who overcame a slow start and clinched the victory with knockdowns in the seventh and ninth rounds.

The win gave the "Pacman" the WBO international welterweight championship.

After his win, he basked in the adoration of a mostly pro-Pacquiao crowd, who repeatedly chanted his name over the course of the 12-round encounter.

"Physically, if you ask me, I'm still okay, I can still fight," Pacquiao said afterward.

"But I made my decision to go back to the Philippines and help the people, and spend time with my family."

If he sticks to his word and steps away from the ring for good, Pacquiao – who is running for a seat in the senate – will retire with a record of 58 wins, six losses, and two draws, with 38 wins coming by way of knockout.

He now holds a 2-1 record over Bradley, having lost to the American in controversial fashion during their first bout in June 2012, but winning the subsequent two bouts in very decisive fashion.

"This was different from the last two fights, because I'm looking for a knockout in every round," Pacquiao said after the fight.

"He's a tough opponent," Pacquiao said of Bradley. "He survived the 12 rounds. But
I'm not careless. I'm not doing careless (things) in the ring. (I used) the counter punch, the uppercut and the straight, and that was my plan even in training."

Fight statistics later showed that Pacquiao was the busier fighter, throwing 439 punches, while Bradley threw only 302.
Bradley connected on 99 punches for a 33% rate, while Pacquiao connected on 122
punches for a 28% percentage.

Donaire overpowers Bedak, ends fight in 3 rounds

(UPDATE) It took Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. only three rounds to dispose Hungary’s Zsolt Bedak and retain the WBO super bantamweight in his first title defense at the Cebu City Sports Center Saturday night.

Donaire hurt Bedak with well-timed left hooks, dropping the former Olympian twice in the second round before clipping the challenger with a vicious uppercut that signaled the end of the bout.

“I'm so grateful nanalo ako at na-knockout ko ang kalaban,” the five-division world champion said after the fight.

“Idine-dedicate ko ito sa father ko eh,” he added, referring to his father and trainer Nonito Donaire Sr. “Sabi niya tapusin before six rounds. Sabi ko, 'Sige po gagawin ko ‘yan.;”

After feeling it out in the first round, Donaire began to land his left hook with more frequency against the Hungarian in the second frame.

Bedak landed an overhand right but the Filipino countered with a left hook that wobbled the Hungarian’s knees. A follow up left hook sent Bedak to the canvas.

The Hungarian valiantly stood up but had a shaky bounce while on his feet. He engaged Donaire again but he paid dearly when the Filipino Flash timed him again with another counter left hook.

The third round saw the 2012 Fighter of the Year initially pacing his rhythm before rattling Bedak with a series of one-two combination. Bedak immediately came back but got clipped with a left hook on his way in.

At this point the Hungarian was all bloodied, prompting referee Russell Mora to call a halt in the fight.

Donaire later said they put the hot summer weather into consideration prior the bout.

“Going into the fight alam ko nandoon 'yung init at sinimulate namin 'yun sa training,” he said. “Alam ko four to five rounds manghihina rin siya, sanay na po ako doon.”

Donaire admitted he got hurt when Bedak tagged him with an overhand right.

“That's something na kailangan kong baguhin. Gigil na gigil ako kasi gusto mashow sa mga tao na maknockout ko siya,” he said.

The elder Donaire said Bedak paid heavily when he decided to go toe-to-toe with his son. But he knew that Donaire is the stronger puncher; hence, he didn’t see the fight going past six round.

“Sabi ko kapag lumaban ito ng sabayan kay Nonito hindi tatagal ng six rounds… Pero lumaban siya kay Nonito so kasalanan niya ‘yan at gusto rin naman ng mga tao,” he said.

The five-division world champion improved his record to 37-3, while handing Bedak’s second defeat in 27 fights.

Undercard

Meanwhile, Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and Jason "El Nino" Pagara also won against their respective foes on the undercard.

Magsayo battered former world title contender Chris “The Hitman” Avalos for an impressive sixth-round stoppage to claim the WBO international featherweight crown.

Pagara, for his part, hammered out a hard-earned unanimous decision against Mexican banger Miguel Zamudio in their 10-round junior welterweight bout.

"The Time Has Come: Donaire vs. Bedak" will be aired locally on Sunday, 8:30 a.m., on ABS-CBN Channel 2 and 1 p.m. on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23.

Si Magsayo dapat maghanap ng maayos ayos pa na trainer to build his stamina.  Tsaka isa pa Mukang tanga sya nung nakita nyang wobbly na si Avalos.  He was swinging wildly!! Kung mataas taas pa na kalibre ang kalaban nya may kalalagyan sya sa ginawa nya lol.

As for Donaire, walang pinagbago, waaaaaaaaayy over matched ang laban.  Parang si Sidorenko lang.  Sana bumalik sya sa paglaban sa mga top fighters sa ranking gaya nila Quigg or Frampton or rematch kay Rigo.

Amir Khan knocked out by Saul Canelo Alvarez in devastating fashion as brave title quest ends
brutally

Canelo Alvarez knockedAmir Khan into next week with a devastating right hand in Round 6 to retain his WBC Middleweight Championship on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It was a sudden and scary end to a fight panned by many as a mismatch, but it delivered more than its share of dramatics before its conclusion.

Canelo (47-1-1, 33 KO) didn't get off to a good start. He wasn't able to neutralize the challenger's huge edge in speed through the first few rounds and seemed to be getting increasingly frustrated with his inability to close the gap and land.

Khan (31-4, 19 KO) fought well from distance and seemed to be making a concerted effort to limit exchanges by relying on his speed. He popped in and out, landing quick combos before the champion could set and return fire.

The distance of the fight closed around the fourth round, with Canelo investing heavily in the body to slow Khan down and make him an easier target. It all built toward the end, which came on a right hand that left the Brit sprawled on the canvas and out.

It was sir, Canelo had a hard time figuring out Khan due to his speed advantage. But he did anyway.

Props to Khan for stepping into the fight.  He should return to Welterweight he's got no business in the Middleweight.  As for Canelo, he should stop ducking GGG.

Now that would be an interesting fight. :D

Canelo Alvarez vacates WBC middleweight title

CANELO ALVAREZ has vacated the WBC middleweight title. He has not withdrawn from negotiations to make the fight with Gennady Golovkin but this is yet another delay.

“After much consideration, today, I instructed my team at Golden Boy Promotions to continue negotiating a fight with Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and to finalize a deal as quickly as possible.  I also informed the WBC that I will vacate its title,” Alvarez said.

“For the entirety of my career, I have taken the fights that no one wanted because I fear no man. Never has that been more true than today. I will fight ‘GGG,’ and I will beat ‘GGG’ but I will not be forced into the ring by artificial deadlines.

“I am hopeful that by putting aside this ticking clock, the two teams can now negotiate this fight, and ‘GGG’ and I can get in the ring as soon as possible and give the fans the fight they want to see.”

Golovkin has always insisted that his goal was all the belts at middleweight. It seems that Canelo have given up one of their bargaining chips, even though Alvarez is a major attraction in the sport. Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya explained, “There is no denying that Canelo is the biggest star in the sport of boxing. He is eager to get in the ring with ‘GGG’ to show the world that he is also the best pound for pound fighter in the sport, but we won’t negotiate under a forced deadline.

“Now that the WBC title is off the table, I am hopeful that ‘GGG’ and his promoter K2 Promotions will come to the table in good faith and get this deal done.”

He was "The Greatest."

Muhammad Ali died Friday, according to a statement from his family. He was 74.

"We lost a legend, a hero and a great man," Floyd Mayweather told ESPN.

Ali had been hospitalized in the Phoenix area this week with respiratory issues, and his children had flown in from around the country.

One of them, Rasheda Ali, took to Twitter early Saturday morning to mourn her father.

Another daughter, Hana Ali, described her father's last moments on Instagramon Saturday, saying his heart wouldn't stop beating for 30 minutes after all of his other organs failed.

"No one had even seen anything like it," she wrote, calling it "a true testament to the strength of his spirit and will."

She said the family was surrounding Ali, hugging and kissing him, holding his hands and chanting an Islamic prayer.

The Paradise Valley Police Department told ABC News that an emergency medical services call was made from Ali's address in the Phoenix area on Tuesday, and the Phoenix Fire Department confirmed that it responded at that time to a call for mutual aid for a 74-year-old male with respiratory issues.

Retired from boxing since 1981, Ali had battled Parkinson's disease for decades. He had been hospitalized a few other times in recent years, including in early 2015 because of a severe urinary tract infection initially diagnosed as pneumonia.

Ali had looked increasingly frail in public appearances, the last coming April 9, when he wore sunglasses and was hunched over at the annual Celebrity Fight Night dinner in Phoenix, which raises funds for treatment of Parkinson's.

He had been living quietly in the Phoenix area with his fourth wife, Lonnie, whom he married in 1986.

Ali's funeral will be held in his hometown of Louisville, with further details to come, spokesman Bob Gunnell said. The city put flags at half-staff Saturday morning.

Ali's death reaches far beyond the sport of boxing. He was one of the world's most recognized people for his actions in and out of the ring. His stance on the military draft and his conversion to Islam polarized America, mainly along racial lines. Yet later, he unified people with his messages of freedom, peace and equality.

"Muhammad Ali was The Greatest. Period," President Barack Obama said in a statement released Saturday morning. "If you just asked him, he'd tell you. He'd tell you he was the double greatest; that he'd 'handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder into jail.'

"Like everyone else on the planet, Michelle and I mourn his passing. But we're also grateful to God for how fortunate we are to have known him, if just for a while; for how fortunate we all are that The Greatest chose to grace our time.

"... Muhammad Ali shook up the world. And the world is better for it. We are all better for it."

Full coverage: Remembering Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali died at age 74. His life and his legacy left an unforgettable imprint on sports, society and culture.

'The Greatest,' in and out of the ring

The world inside the ring just wasn't big enough to contain the irrepressible Muhammad Ali on his way to becoming the best-known athlete in the world, William Nack writes.

Boxing icon Muhammad Ali mourned by sports world

Athletes around the world reacted to the passing of boxing and social icon Muhammad Ali on Friday night.

"Muhammad Ali shook up the world. And the world is better for it. We are all better for it. Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family, and we pray that the greatest fighter of them all finally rests in peace."

President Barack Obama

Reaction to the news was immediate.

"A true great has left us," said Bob Arum, who promoted 27 Ali fights. "Muhammad Ali transformed this country and impacted the world with his spirit. His legacy will be part of our history for all time."

Said Cavaliers star LeBron James: "The reason why he's the GOAT [greatest of all time] is not because of what he did in the ring, which was unbelievable. It's what he did outside of the ring, what he believed in, what he stood for -- along with Jim Brown and Oscar Robertson, Lew Alcindor, obviously, who became Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar], Bill Russell, Jackie Robinson. Those guys stood for something. He's part of the reason why African-Americans today can do what we do in the sports world. We're free. They allow us to have access to anything we want. It's because of what they stood for, and Muhammad Ali was definitely the pioneer for that."

With a wit as sharp as the punches he used to "whup'' opponents, Ali dominated boxing for two decades before time and Parkinson's disease, triggered by thousands of blows to the head, ravaged his magnificent body, muted his majestic voice and ended his storied career in 1981. He fought in three decades, finished with a record of 56-5 with 37 knockouts and was the first man to win heavyweight titles three times.

"It's a sad day for life, man," promoter Don King said. "I loved Muhammad Ali. He was my friend. Ali will never die. Like Martin Luther King, his spirit will live on. He stood for the world.''

Despite his debilitating illness, Ali traveled the world to rapturous receptions even after his once-bellowing voice was quieted and he was left to communicate with a wink or a weak smile. Revered by millions worldwide and reviled by millions more, Ali cut quite a figure, at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds in his prime.

"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,'' his cornermen exhorted, and he did just that in a way no heavyweight had ever fought before. He whipped the fearsome Sonny Liston twice, toppled the mighty George Foreman with the rope-a-dope in Zaire and nearly fought to the death with Joe Frazier in the Philippines. Through it all, he was trailed by a colorful entourage who merely added to his growing legend.

"Rumble, young man, rumble,'' cornerman Bundini Brown would yell to him. Rumble Ali did. He fought anyone who meant anything and made millions of dollars with his lightning-quick jab. His fights were so memorable that they had names -- "Rumble in the Jungle'' and "Thrilla in Manila.'' But it was as much his antics -- and his mouth -- outside the ring that transformed the man born Cassius Clay into the household name Muhammad Ali.

"I am the greatest,'' Ali thundered again and again. Few would disagree.

"Muhammad Ali is a legend and one of the world's most celebrated athletes, the fighter who ushered in the golden era of boxing and put the sport on the map," Oscar De La Hoya said in a statement. "He paved the way for professional fighters, including myself, elevating boxing to become a sport watched in millions of households around the world.

"Beyond his incredible talent, he also made boxing interesting. Ali was fearless in the ring and took on the toughest, most challenging opponents. Ali exemplified courage. He never took the easy route, something to be admired in and outside of the ring."

President Bill Clinton who awarded Ali the Presidential Citizens Medal, mourned Ali's death.

"Hillary and I are saddened by the passing of Muhammad Ali," Clinton said in a statement. "From the day he claimed the Olympic gold medal in 1960, boxing fans across the world knew they were seeing a blend of beauty and grace, speed and strength that may never be matched again."

Athletes, celebrities and dignitaries shared those sentiments. Manny Pacquiao called Ali "a giant." Tiger Woods, "a champion."

"Boxing benefited from Muhammad Ali's talents but not nearly as much as mankind benefited from his humanity," Pacquiao said.
