Trivia
*Nico Rosberg's pole in Bahrain last time out was only his second in his 132-race career.
*It gave Mercedes back-to-back poles for the first time since they returned to F1 in 2010, and their first since they chalked up three in a row since the end of the 1955 season.
*It was Vettel, however, who went on to win the race, his 28th career victory, and now alone in sixth place on the all-time standings.
*In finishing second to Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen has now completed his last 21 races in the points. Schumacher holds the record with 24.
*The Circuit de Catalunya has been a fixture on the calendar since 1991. From the 22 grands prix, the winner has come from pole on 17 occasions, including 11 of the last 12.
*Michael Schumacher tops the list for Spanish GP victories with six, and is the only driver to have won the race in Barcelona not starting on the front row of the grid (from 3rd in 1996).
*The other four drivers to have bucked the trend in winning after not starting from pole are Nigel Mansell (1991), Damon Hill (1994), Mika Hakkinen (2000) and Sebastian Vettel (2011).
*Significantly, on 16 occasions from the 22 races the team winning in Barcelona has collected the constructors' championship trophy at the end of the year.
*Pastor Maldonado's victory last year saw a number of 'firsts' - it was his first start from pole position, his first win, and the first for a Venezuelan in Formula One.
*Maldonado is the only driver to win a grand prix at the Circuit de Catalunya and for that to be his solitary victory of the season.
*The track is a renowned testing venue, and the driver with the most testing mileage at the circuit is McLaren's Jenson Button who has completed a staggering 21,565 miles.
